How much did you spend on your big day?
So many people go mad on their wedding budget spending tens of thousands of pounds or more. Personally I dont understand why. It is one day and why spend so much when you have the rest of your lives to live.
We spent around £4000 which compared to many people that was nothing and that even included our honeymoon to Greece. The day was amazing with everything you see in many weddings; the old fashioned beautiful car, perfect wedding dress and bridesmaid dresses as well as mens wear, a live band and also a disco, a perfect meal, church wedding, photographer etc etc. We were lucky though as the old fashioned car cost us nothing as it was the car of my father in law who did old cars up. We payed the band minimal amount as one of our friends were in the band and they also did the disco for us for free. Our photographer was a friend so we only gave her minimal amount and so forth. To me, it was a perfect day and we didnt get into debt over it either!

My wedding dress was on sale too. I did see another one which I loved which cost over £1000 which I refused to pay and the one I bought was a lot less and perfect. We also updated a couple of bridesmaids dresses which me and my sister used at my mums wedding and made them more modern and the other bridesmaids bought their own which saved even more.

Hi Sallyj,
That was about what we spent too and even though we had to do without a few things, in hindsight, they probably didn't matter that much. I found my dress on sale and we had the wedding mid-afternoon on a weekday so all that saved us a bundle. I was determined to give my soon-to-be husband a wedding with style and class and did just that. Where? At a local golf club with a stunning backdrop of huge homes so we all felt rich for a day. Don't we deserve it? It's amazing what you can improvise on and still have a classy wedding!

I would say it came in at under $250 - dress included, rings not. We went to Vegas and had the simplest ceremony The Little White Chapel had to offer. My dress was a white gauzey sundress I bought at one of the outlet malls the day before. The ceremony lasted about 7 minutes, lol. I'm not saying that's what would be right for everyone but for us it was perfect. We aren't the kind of people who could have handled the whole wedding thing - all the attention and wasted money - so we opted to just quietly slip away. I think a wedding is all about what you really want, not about money. Unfortunately those things sometimes collide!
Yours sounds like a perfect day, and very reasonably priced by today's average wedding standards. It sounds like a great example of friends and relatives coming together and making it a very special day.

Yes, I agree that as long as you get what you want no matter how you do it then thats what matters. It is unfortunate that sometimes wants and money collide though I believe that a person can still get the wedding that they want without being wastefull with money - we are proof of that :)

I got married four years ago and we spent close to 1000.00 on our wedding. We had a backyard reception with hot dogs and hamburgers. I bought a sheet cake instead of a regular wedding cake. The minister was a friend of mine's father and would not take any money. we had family and friends take pictures and send us copies via email. We played music that we had downloaded. The ceremony was in the city park and we paid 25.00 for it. The most expensive item were the rings. I made my own bouquets and boutineers. I had a friend make the corsages for my mom, sister and grandmother. My husband bought mine.
