Learning a new language is not an easy thing to do but still it is fun experience to enjoy life.I remember while I was still in Canada,i have an opprtunity to learn some French. But it was tough? Why?It was beacuse I was using English(my second language )to learn a third language. And the difficulty I had in the French class was reasonable. It was because the French teccher never spoke one English aafter the first lesson. She taught by body language and gesture.Even the English speaking people got a hard time to learn it,no wonder I got a hard time as well.I heard the class in the other section which was also a beginner section need to involve in a debate by using French in their second class.I couldn't figure it out how they manage it ?Anyway,it is fun to learn a new language if I can learnit with the help of my mother tongue. But too bad ,many teacher think that it better not to use your own mother tongue to help you to learn a new language. For it may slow down your progress.I am not sure whether it is true or not.But after my experience with German,Greek and Herbrew,I would still say that I prefer to leran it with my mother tongue which will make my learninng experience more enjoyable. What about yours?

Hi Amelly,
I think learning the Japanese language will be included in my top three languages that i wanted to learn and master together with Spanish and French. It seems like so hard to understand japanese language and same with the french language...it will be challenging. it's also good to learn their culture and tradition side by side their languages.

Wow, you choose to study German language. For me, this language is one of the tough languages. It is not that easy. When I started to read some of the German words in the net, I find it difficult.
I admire you for choosing that language.

If I could and stick with it I would like to learn Spanish. So many people talk spansish and it is like the second language in the US,that it would not be a bad idea to learn it. I now have the yearning to learn some German! There is two reasons for that! The first reason is I am of German heritage. Secondly I am reading a book with Amish people in it and they speak alot of German! So that would be the languages I'd like to learn!

Before I went to the US, I thought the second language there would be French, which obviously was a misconception. When I was in the US, I found out Spanish is so much more common than French! You're right, it would be so much more convenient if you understand Spanish if you live or work in the US.

Hi Wildlittlefan,
If given the chance i want to be fluent in spanish and french. I had two subjects in spanish during my college days, but since i am not practicing it i can only recall few words and even make statements. I find speaking in spanish so romantic. I heard from friends that it's hard to learn french but i am ready to take the challenge.

Yes, I also find Spanish language more romantic than other languages. But why? Is it because of the soft pronounciation, or simply because I've associated the language to the romance Spanish dramas which I love? Either way, Spanish is my most favourite language amongst all those I've learnt.

I thought about learning Arabic as well but don't know where I should go for this training. In fact one of the mosques nearby where I live used to offer free Arabic lessons, but they don't do that anymore. I wish they could resume that and I would definitely not miss the chance this time.

I would also like to know how to speak French because I want to someday visit Paris and travel in the nearby cities. But if you ask me now I think I might one to learn Korean first because I have been watching many Korean dramas and I want to understand it without having the need for an English subtitle. I had learned some words and phrase while watching so I think it is a step.
I think one has to watch again and again and coupled with body language so that you can understand the meaning of the language. One also has to understand the culture of the country which speaks it so you have a full understanding of their words.

I studied French in high school. It was one of my most enjoyable classes of the day. I have often wondered what it would be like to learn a different language. Spanish, German and even japanese sound like interesting languages and cultures to explore.

I thought about learning Italian as well but I'm afraid that might mess up with my Spanish (which I learned several years ago) as the 2 languages seem to be very similar. Besides Italian and Spanish, I also would like to pick up other European languages as well, German is definitely one of them.

I am always ashamed when abroad that the only language I can speak fluently is English. I admire how well many people from abroad are able to communicate in English.
I would love to improve on the French that I learnt at school. I still remember enough to be able to roughly interpret written french and can sometimes vaguely understand what someone is saying if they are speaking french, but I would love to be fluent.
I would also love to learn Greek. Having been fascinated by how it makes no sense to me when I have been in Greece I would just love to learn it. It does seem very difficult though so maybe I will start of with improving my french!!

I can share with you how I end up being trilingual: My native language is Cantonese, but we have to learn English from kindergarten onwards due to my country's British heritage. In primary school I had an option to learn Mandarin due to our geographical proximity to China. That's just how easy to acquire 3 languages when I was a kid. After that I chose to learn Spanish, Japanese, Greek, Hebrew, and Latin in university simply because I have a passion for learning languages.

My ex was from Mexico. When we first married we lived with his sisters family then we stayed in Mexico for about 6 months. Being around all that spanish speaking people and them not knowing english. There primary language at home was spanish. I picked up alot of spanish and although i do not know every word i can pick up on the conversation. They were surprized when i was started joining in on the conversations in english.
The sentence structure is a little different than english so i dont try to speak it out of fear of looking like a fool. At times i have had to speak some at jobs because a customer would come by that needed help and they didnt know a word of english. We being the only 2 people there i had to do something. At least we came to a conclusion.

I had a similar experience: I planned to enrol in a French class when I was studying in university. The first class I went to the instructor taught almost exclusively in French and worse still his low-pitch voice sounded very like a bull! That immediately turned off my interest in that language and so I switched to Spanish, which sounds so much more pleasant and it's a joy just to hear the instructor teaching. I am still trying to keep up with my Spanish after all these years and still don't have so much intention to learn French. I think my unpleasant experience in that first French class has induced in me a bit of aversion to that language, which is surely a pity.

IN my country there are around 15 languages spoken in different part of the country, may be more. I would love to learn those all, I already know bit of other 2 languages in Addition to my national language "Hindi".
Once I learn all my regional languages, would love to learn German :)

given the opportunity to learn a new language, i would like to learn the language of cats and dogs... i would love to talk, i.e. converse with them and know what they think of man, in general, and of me, in particular... that would make me a better friend to them and would even make me more responsive to their needs... about the language of other people... naaahhh, no more... i know more than enough to communicate with most...

Hi, well I've took a course in Spanish language but on the first level only. I wish I can continue up to the fourth level since I wanted to be a bilingual call center agent. I can understand the Spanish language but I'm not that savvy to speak faster. Aside from Spanish, I knew Bahasa Malaysia and could able to speak this language. English is also our second language.
