I am not very interested in reading books. However, I am trying to get rid of this irritating habit. I consider that reading is very important, which makes you more intelligent and broadens your horizons. I have ever read some kung fu novels in my junior school. But I have been reading a remarkable and spectacular book which will not be forgotten: Gone with the wind. It is written by an American greatest novelist Margaret Mitchell. I have just read a couple of chapters, but I am lost in it. Because it is English version, sometimes I feel a little difficult to understand, however, I have already decided to finish it and I think I can do exactly as what I promised. Of course, the famous movie based on this masterpiece is also of great success. And at the moment I have a copy of this movie in my computer. Although I watched the movie for many times, I still love it. What book would you prefer ?

I am from the US and I have never read "Gone with The Wind" but was very excited when the movie came on tv a "zillion" years ago then when it came out on VIDEO I was eccstatic and bought it. Have watched it a couple times and when my granddaughter (8) asked 'what is a southern belle?' I used the beginning of hte movie to 'show her', much easier then explaining.
I love to read but I only read 'inspirational fiction', my favorite being a 15 book series called "Brides of Montclaire" by Jane Peart. It covers from the 1600's through the late 1900's. I just love how they follow one another. Unfortunately, even though I am not working,I just don't have time to read for the pleasure. I do however read my lesson preparations for Sunday School and for Wed nights I don't and my Bible. I get a lot out of reading them and I do enjoy them very much.

Luke tells in detail about the birth of Jesus. Matthew 1:1-17 tells the genealogy of Jesus then in verse 18 tells about Joseph's visit from the angel. Then the visit of the magi (the wise men) could have taken place any time from when he was 40 days old to 2 years. Matthew 2:11 tells "on coming to the house, they found the child with his mother Mary..." this verse indicates that they were no longer in the stable where he was born in Luke and that he now lived in a house and he was no longer the baby the shepherds found in the stable. I would suggest you start reading from Luke 1- 2:38 then to Matthew 1:18-2:23. The baby John that you will meet in the beginning of Luke is John the Baptist who will baptise Jesus, he is Jesus cousin.
I am only suggesting this reading as it sounds like you are not to familiar with the Bible, Matthew and Luke show 2 different views of Jesus birth. Also I would suggest that you use the NIV as I think it will be much easier to understand.
I have a simple prayer I say when I start to read my Bible and maybe it will help you to. My prayer is "Dear Jesus open my heart and eyes and mind to your word and help me to understand". God's blessings and leading to you.

I have read and re-read Solitaire Mystery by Joistein Gaarder many times so that makes it my favourite book. I find it interesting and easy to read. The author has a fantastic imagination! I have read his Sophie's World too but I find it too deep and takes too long a time to get through. I also started Gone With the Wind this year and has progressed just a few chapters so far. I planned to finish this soon. I have not seen the movie too but will probably watch it before reading the book.

I have downloaded a copy into my media player. Hopefully I can find time to watch it some time this or next week. I have heard so much about this movie and so many people who have enjoyed, I imagine it to be a timeless piece of work.

I am. I am a huge fan of Neil Gaiman. I have never met him in person, but I know that I am going to one day, and when I do, boy do I have a lot of questions for him.

I like a good sci-fi classic. My favorite so far is "Brave New World". I think I am going to start reading "1984" soon.

I studied 1984 by George Orwell at school in 1984, when I was 14 years old. It is an interesting novel and we learnt about the satirical side too, that it is a social commentary on the Communist state. We also read and studied Animal Farm by Orwell, but I didn't enjoy that as much as 1984.

My favorite books are the books on 'Positive Mental Attitude' and booke on the lives of great persons! Besides these, booke on spirituality and our local literature are also my liking! For me, books are the entangled form of wisdom those help anyone throughout life, if referred and studied regularly!!
Thanks for this nice topic on books and have nice reading always!!

I am not really in to reading books now since I am busy doing online jobs and busy mylotting. But there is this particular writer whom I never failed to read his articles online because of the inspirational thoughts and humorous way of delivering his teachings. He is my fellow filipino, his name is Bo Sanchez, I subscribe to his newsletter in soul food, god whispers, preacher in blue jeans, kerygma, and everything he offers online. I am proud to say that I am a big fan of him.

I love many, many books but just hearing that line -"Last night I dreamt I went to Manderley again" from 'Rebecca' by Daphne du Maurier gives me goose bumps!!
I just LOVE this book. I first read it as a young teenager, many years ago, after my godmother introduced me to Du Maurier's work and I was immediately hooked.
It is a book that I return to over and over again.
If you have not read 'Rebecca', I envy you, you cannot unread the books you have read. You have all that mystery ahead of you, you are about to be completely and utterly absorbed in one of the best stories I have ever read.
Don't read 'Rebecca' expecting to read a classic love story, because that is not what it is. 'Rebecca' IS about love, both past and present, but it is also a thriller, dark, almost Gothic, creepy but most of all intriguing.
"Rebecca" is such a gripping tale that it fascinated the late Alfred Hitchcock, and chose this story to make into a film. But even Hitchcock - the 'Master of Suspense' , did not do justice to this gripping tale in his classic 1940 black and white film.
'Rebecca' remains one of my favourite and one of the most memorable books I have ever read.

For me, it would still be "The Alchemist" by Paulo Coelho. I have read it many times and I still continue reading it again and again and again. It's a simple adventure story that is full of meditation as it comforts one's heart and soul, and inspires one not to give up.

Though I am also not very involved in reading books but I have seen that some people are just crazy about it. They read a dozens of novels and I in my lifetime haven't read a novel. I think I just don't have the taste of reading books. I have exams from this 22nd but even now I am more interested in reading discussions here rather than reading my course books.
I am thinking about studying from tomorrow onwards, lets see how it goes.
Anyway Happy myLotting!

Well, like you, I am also have an IELTS examination in the next second month. So, I am here to learn English and discuss with the native speakers. I learn from all of you, all the native speakers, and anyone speaking good English. It helps me a lot. I can learn "Real English" here. In the Chinese forum or BBS, most people speak Chinglish, not English. Have a nice day !

I'm just like you at first I'm not into reading books but i decided to read books to open my mind to different perspectives, cultures and learn from the moral lessons of each books.I'm also learning grammar and just like you at first I'm having difficulties understanding the book because it's written in english.I understand that you are not american just like me.Well with the help of dictionary and with your eagerness to learn I know you will become a bookworm,by the way the books that I'm reading includes books from Oprah's book club (there's a lot of books that you can choose from Oprah's book club) and Paulo Coelho.

Well, you are optimistic. I wish I were you. I live in a country that makes me depressed and I always feel hopeless. Sometimes, I also read some books which invigorate me, but when I think of the house I can't afford, the high medical expense and so on, I am in the slough of despond.
