I think WINDOWS is best operating system ever made by microsoft and its too easiest operating system even if why you are not new to computer world. And their new launched windows 7 is awesome operating system. I really love it because of its powerful features like aeropeek, jumplist, snap, new visual taskbar etc... Not only this but also powerful security features. Its not free, costly but not always free and opensource programs are best as you mentoined. I recommended you to try it at least one time to see yourself howmuch window 7 is visual and awesome operating system. Its another visually system after windows vista.I am sure you will like it.
Linux OS is good for business purposes because its called virus free environment. But to entertain yourself, windows is no. 1 and best operating system.Just check it out and i know you will also love it like me. :D

I agree partly with u. I have installed on one of my computers windows 7, but Linux is not only for business purposes because of Virus free environment. One example, how do you quickly deal with 1 000 000 files using Windows? It is so much simpler while you're using Linux. Of course, you have always the possibility of installing a database manager, like Oracle... However, my objective of questioning the superiority of windows is because if we have more competing OS, then the consumer we'll profit the development of technology from this competition. If you have the absolute monopoly of the situation, you don't need to further develop your products, this is the law of market... That doesn't mean that you have the best product. As an example: Blu-Ray and HD-DVD... It seems that blu-ray has won the battle, however the Blu-ray is better than HD-DVD?

i am a gamer so i would say winxp. it is easy and tweakable. agreed, it has it's problems. i don't like vista at all and i don't really have much experience with seven so i don't know about it. i think unix os are good for coding and other stuff, they are stable etc. but they are not really my thing.

Thanx for your comments. I agree with you. It seems that windows is easier to deal with games. However, it's possible to run a lot of games in a Linux platform. Cheers

I like Windows operating system much more because it is the most common operating system. It is easy to use. Whereas you need to learn how to use Linux. Besides, not many software supports Linux. But Linux has an advantage, that is this operating system will have less possibilities to get computer virus.
I love China

I agree that windows is a very common OS, however as said in other posts it is a myth that Linux doesn't have the support of many softwares. The problem is that the usual softwares of Windows will not work on Linux, however you can always substitute them. Usually, a Linux software is much better conceived than a Windows software.
You said that "It is easy to use", Linux is also easy to use... The main problem is the installation procedure and people are not willing for a change...

This is a myth that Linux has less applications developed for it. What you want to say is that the SAME applications developed for windows could not be available for Linux, but you can substitute. I'm going to give an example, you can use IDL for windows (which it's paid) and you can use GDL for Linux (which is free) and both of them work equaly well...

Linux is good, but most programs and applications run well with Microsoft Windows XP. I still prefer XP.
