Getting referrals

Simple answer is NO. You have to refer someone to earn from their participation. Just adding someone as friends will not earn you anything. It will help you get your discussions viewed and thereby get more responses. To earn from another member, he or she has to be the person who registered on myLot through your referral link.

I'm new here also but according to those who have earned earlier referrals is really the best weapon to earn more.
