Preparing Own Itinerary Or A Travel Planner?

My younger sister is coming over with her family tomorrow. They will going to spend a short vacation here until Monday next week. And this morning, I asked her through a text message, if she already have their ITINERARY for their trip here. And she said none. I have traveled a few times though only within our country. But usually, i prepare my ITINERARY almost a week before the time of the trip. So, I wonder how do you travel in places, do you prepare your own travel plan ahead of time or you just go to the place and look for a tourist guide or a destination planner? Have you been to the Philippines, particularly Cebu? Which part of the Island Province have you visited so far? If not, which tourist destinations would you like to visit, if given a chance? To Filipinos and Cebu members: Can you suggest great destinations in Cebu where I can bring my sister? I am not so familiar with the island province as I am not a homegrown Cebuano.

It seems better to have some sort of itinerary so that people can have some clue about the particular city or country they are visiting. A tour guide can be effective, but tour guides usually tour in groups, so people may wind up going places they don't necessarily care for or have planned to attend.

a friend or a family member could be a better tour guide, right? and he/she will be less expensive than travel guides coming from a travel agency. i hope i will be an effective tour guide for my sister.

If it's a trip that involves me and my girlfriend only I usually make an itinerary but if it's a trip with group of friends we go wherever our feet take us. I'm also a native of the visayan region, Iloilo, but I'm also not familiar with my own province. I have not step into the shores of Cebu so I cannot help you in that part

just like you, as a bulakeño, i never had a chance to go around all the places in our province, bulacan. but i have been to other places in the country, in the visayas and in mindanao. i had been to Iloilo but twice, in 1993 and the last time was in 2008. i never enjoyed much as those trips were both official. come over to cebu one day so you can also see what we have to offer here.

I do a little of both. I'll have a few planned things I want to do and a few days to just wing it. When I go someplace new, there's usually more things to do, but I also like to take some time to do nothing.

Good timing for the discussion. I was talking with my boyfriend a while ago and was sharing his story about his trip to the northern part of Luzon with his office mates from Thursday night to this morning. He actually is the most familiar among his companion about the place. He said, he got tired because of the going back and forth of places. Let us say they went to Pagudpud which is located in the Ilocos Norte part then they went to Vigan, which is located in the Ilocos Sur part, then they wanted to go back to Pagudpud again. He said, he did not make an itinerary of the trip because he wants his office mates to have the last say to where they want to go. Not fighting for about the topic anyway, I told him that he should have initiated to do the planning to where they go because he is familiar with the route to which will come first and then next destination. Then I advised him that he should have made an itinerary. For me, if I am planning to travel, I make sure that I have to plan ahead. If am not familiar with the place, I will ask someone to do the map and what places they wish me to see and go, then plan for the time. It is important that we have to make itinerary or plan because it will help us to maximize our time and that it will not be wasted.

I am sorry if I could not suggest any place to go there my friend because never been to Cebu yet. Why not try to surf and search tourist spots in Cebu? Maximize the time then. Good Luck!

I kind of like to do my own plans, tho I do schedule things that can't be rearranged. For example, my mom and I arranged our day trips after we got to England, but I didn't want to miss out on a tour to Stonehenge with the roomie, so I did it online ahead of time. I guess the biggest difference between the 2 trips was the fact that the internet wasn't so widespread in 1995 when I went with my mom.

Well, when the roomie and I went in 2003, we got the Stonehenge tour booked well before our trip, then we just had to figure out how to get to the pick up site! If I were to go again, I would again schedule things we didn't want to miss ahead of time on line. But unlike my trip with mom, we didn't go to a single play, something mom and I only missed 3 nights out of the 10 we were there. (and one day we even did a matinee...

Hey mate, I think this post have been done already. Sorry I am late. I am busy lately with regards to my recent job here outside our country. Hope you understand. Anyway, I travel alot of time. Local destination but I only start making itinerary when I joined Mountain climbing because I am supported by our local government so they need this to support the expenses we have during the event which is covered by our locality. Better to have this to manage your time and also your expenses. I visit cebu last time and I enjoy bar hopping with my friends. Maybe my next visit would be mountain adventure and beaches site seeing.

i too usually do my personal travel plan when i go places. i don't want to waste time especially if the place is something that you are not sure if you can go visit again in the future.

I am usually visiting family when I travel, and so I let them plan where we should go.We love to just "go with the flow" and see what we want to see. I have never been to the Philippines but it sounds like a wonderful tropical destination.

I love have an advance itinerary ready…it saves me a lot of trouble and time and harassment at the hands of touts. Most places have good tourist maps and help centres and the net is always there, so before going somewhere I check out all the info so I not only know the good tourist spots and hotels, but I also have an idea of how many days I can spend at what place and what are the must-sees No, I’ve never been to your country…like you, I’ve travelled only within India (that is so vast in itself…I don’t think one lifetime would be enough to cover the entire country LOL)

that i agree, itineraries help save trouble and time, and most of all, you will enjoy more in the places you want to go. but above all those troubles, it is better if you have someone from the place to guide you around.

I like to plan my own itinerary. I am an independent traveler. In the future I hope I will be able to visit the Philippines. If I do so I will fly into Cebu rather than Manila. Then I will be able to catch a ferry to Bohol Island. There I will be able to see the Chocolate Hills and spend time on the palm fringed beaches. Later this week I shall be flying off to Vancouver. I have an idea of where else I am going to see on my trip. I would like to go across to Vancouver Island. I am going to visit a few relatives. My sister is married to a Canadian. I have been reading some travel guide books about that region of Canada.

i also like to travel with a ready itinerary. and since there is the internet, we can plan better if we search and get more information about the places we wish to visit. it's nice to hear from you that you have included us in your future trips and hope to see you here soon.

I'm not been to the Philippines, but I will say that my boyfriend and I usually plan our own trips. If we're just going to visit family for the weekend we usually don't have any itinerary. If we go to another place we've never been to before we usually research the area and find a few things we'd like to do or places to visit. I'd love to go to Europe. That place has many countries and all of them are beautiful and unique. England, Italy, Greece, Germany just to name a few. All so diverse and amazing.

I have never travelled in your country. But when we are going to travel to a place where we have never been, we start weeks ahead to find information and plan our trip. This makes it all that much more fun for us.

Hi neildc: I have to say that I haven't made itineraries but I search on the internet what are the most exciting places to vosot. So I came to the place with a general idea of the things I'd like to do and of course I ask for help. Generally I have travelled to watch my bands in concert so that's the most important thing I want to do, and when I have travelled with my parents, they make the itinerary for me . Thanks for asking us this question. Have a nice day. ALVARO.

Hey there neildc! I am from Cebu. There are a lot of places to visit in Cebu. If you want to see the historical past of Cebu, you can always go to the Magellan's Cross and the Basilica del Sto. Nino. If ever you want to enjoy your whole vacation on the beach, you can visit Shangri-la, Plantation Bay Beach Resort or Imperial Palace, the three can be located at Mactan island, near the airport. If you want to see Migratory Birds, you can visit Olango island. If what you are seeking for is world class marine life, then you can visit Moalboal and experience scuba diving. There are many attractions in Cebu. At the heart of the city you can visit Crown Regency Hotel and towers where you can ride the famous edge coaster, or you can watch their 4D movies at reasonable prices.

a lot of offers, pinoyblogger. but some of those resorts and hotels are expensive. maybe, we could only go to the lapu-lapu shrine, magellan's cross and the basilica. i know shangrila and plantation bay, but not familiar with imperial palace.

I have a really good friend who is also a travel agent, and she handles the details. If I know what I want I let her know, and she books the itinerary I set, but if I do not know exactly what I want to do, she gives me lots and lots of helpful suggestions.
