I was ecstatic...my four-year-old daughter, Kezz, was going to school for the first time and she was excited too. As I needed to go to work early, her father was the one to accompany her.. she's just adorable. At work, I cannot get myself off the phone asking my husband how things were going; perhaps I should have taken the day off to see her. At lunch time, we talked and she was ever excited to share the new song she learned. and she looks forward to day 2.... am i happy school didn't turn out traumatic for her.. do all mothers feel this way when sending their child to school for the first time?????

I sent my daughter to playschool when she was two and half. The playschool is right behind my house and I can watch her from the window - not inside the school, but when they come out in the garden to play. Her first day...well, she didn't want to go, though she didn't cry. She still does not want to go, but she is getting better. The main difficulty for her is that she does not speak the local language, therefore, had no way of communicating with other kids to make friends.

i agree, it will be difficult for a child to mingle is she can't speak everybody's language.. where are you staying, by the way?

I am staying in Jaipur, Rajasthan, India. Oh..that's a bit long, but I recently realized that there's another Jaipur in another state. My husband's British, I am Indian (the non-Hinde-Speaking kind of Indian). So, my daughter speaks my mother tongue (Mizo) and English. Of course the children around here all speak Hindi. She is slowly learning it though, from the school and from the neighbours. You are lucky that your little one likes school. It is heart-wrenching to leave her at school when I know for sure that she doesn't like it even though she doesn't cry.

as a matter of fact, she likes asking her father to leave immediately upon arriving in school and she likes it when her father takes pictures in class.

Practically me and my wife were just excited as you on the our child's first day at school. We also were very proud and happy indeed that it turned out well. Our son was really in the mood and is looking forward to go to school. Now, he is already in Grade 1 level and still we always monitor what he does and he always likes to share his daily school activities.

My daughter will start preschool after christmas and I am so nervous. She is already excited and asking to go to school as all her little friends are just that little bit older than her and either go to school, nursery and preschool already. I think she may get a little upset though I know she will love it and im excited for her though I think once Ive dropped her off I may cry!

I think it just went fine. I was excited for her to learn new things or to practice her alphabet and all that but seems like she was only taught the colors and shape which she already knows. Anyways it went fine and she didnt cry thats important.

well, i'm not a mom yet. but my 4-year-old niece started school last week. it was so funny! their first day, they learned colors. they had to give an example when their teacher gives the color. so here's how it went for her. red = apple. green = leaf. yellow = banana. brown = wood. then the teacher said blue. after thinking for a moment, my niece came up triumphantly with: "my mom's blanket is blue!" smart kid!

As far as I can remember, I never wanted to go to school. I cried when my mom would have to leave me there and all my other classmates were also crying. I cried to and I was in the afternoon class at that time and I never wanted the afternoon to come.
