I went to mom's today. Because she isn't doing real well, I went over to the main part of the Manor while she had lunch in the health care center. When I got back mom actually asked me where I went.
More like "Where you go?"
So I told her about going over and starting the Great Courses because the man who runs it is in the health care center himself right now.
I sat down and leaned my head back on the backrest and told her I was tired then asked if she was going to take a nap.
She rolled her eyes at me. I told her I wanted to take a nap. She kind of smiled at me. I then asked if she'd take a nap FOR me.
At that she laughed at me! . Hey, I'll take what I can get!!!

Your mom sounds like she was doing a little bit better that day! It is great that you could make her laugh. Sometimes that is the best thing for a person. It is also great that she asked where you went. That shows that she at least knows what is going on around her. I'll bet it made you feel really good!

Your mom is very fortunate to have your regular company at the health care center. I am sure that making her laugh was good for both of you. I know we always want to make things better for our family any way that we can.

I am so glad that you brought a smile to your mum’s face! It can make all the difference! It is so nice that you make the effort to spend time with her. I am sure that is difficult at times to see her unwell but I am certain your presence makes all the difference especially if you make her smile!

Sometimes it takes so little to reap so much. Not only did you make your mom laugh, her laughter cheered you, too. Hold that pleasant memory close.

I know exactly how you're feeling, Elic. I'm glad you could make your mother laugh and, in return, get such a good feeling from it.
When my mother was diagnosed with terminal cancer that had already spread to her brain, I had to put her in a nursing facility. When I was there, she would cling to me. At night, I was told that she hung on to the curtain around her bed like her life depended on it. That made me sad so I went out and bought her a big, stuffed bunny rabbit (Easter was coming). She LOVED that bunny! I never saw it out of her hands, at least until I got there, then she wanted me to sit on the side of the bed while she held onto me. But, that smile on her face when I gave her the bunny was priceless. It made me feel good that I could make her happy, even if just a little, in her last days.
I actually held on to that bunny after my mother didn't need it anymore. I had it here for almost three years before I finally realized that maybe someone else could get as much happiness out of it as my mother did so I donated it to charity.
I miss my mother but I'll always remember her face when I gave her that bunny. She loved it.

My mom isn't doing well either...but, I try helping her as well as making her smile. She mainly laughs at my cooking D;(my cooking is not the best, but not the worst either).

I think she'd be surprised at my cooking these days. My sister was always the cook when we were growing up.
I figured that if I couldn't do all those wifely things, no body would want to marry me - wrong, but they would want them done AFTER getting married!

Someone who actually managed to get to a Health Centre!!!!! In my doc's surgery, it's easier to get an audienace with the Pope. Unless you have one foot in the grave no one wants to know!!! And probably not even then. Last year, 2 wks before I went on holiday, I suddenly started seeing black spots in front of my right eye. I rang my surgery, who now want you to describe what you think you've got, then someone rings you back to see if it's worth you wasting the doctor's time. I was told that "it was probably nothing and that if I was worried I should go and stick my arm in the blood pressure machine in reception". Me, who has a history of low blood pressure. So I went to see my optician. He said I had "floaters". So off I went on holiday. 2nd dday in Greece, in a lovely hired villa, I get off the sunbed and find that I cant see well with my right eye, I thought I had a migraine, as the sun is a trigger. I soldiered on, went on the boat trip the next day, but the eye got worse. Next day I went to the medical centre there, who told me to go and see an eye surgeon. And guess what?????? I had a detached retina. Because by then the tear was quite large, I was told to just lie down, watch tv and get some sun, not lift, not bend down, well, I packed my suitcase that evening. My friend got quite upset as she relied on me for driving round so her holiday was ruined as well. When I returned to the UK I had an eye operation followed by laser and my eyesight will never be the same again in that eye, even if I put a telescope in front of it. So, because of the non caring attitude shown by people who should know better, my eye sight is bad in that eye and if it wasnt for the other eye, I would not even be able to drive. Thank you, NOT, British Health service.

And people wonder why I don't want "Obama-care". No, the health care center is a fancy name for the nursing home attached to the Manor. It is often an intermediate care between the hospital and independent living again. In mom's case, it's permanate.
