Paypal is trusted payment processor in the internet. It is safe to link your credit card to paypal. It's better if you create Virtual Credit Card using your credit card and then verify your paypal account using VCC. It is safer way since any transaction won't directly to your main Credit Card. This is legal way. To make your VCC please contact your bank which issued the credit card.

I have been a long customer of paypal.i am from India.I have given my bank account as verification. But there is some restriction to get money to my bank account.may due to the policy of the Govt. Of India. As a whole paypal is a good site.At least I can withdraw money from there to purchase from some other site like ebay.in etc.

I have been using Paypal for more than 7 years now. I have never encountered any charges apart from the charges mentioned. I think you are safe there. The only thing to be worried about is phishing site. Never go to Paypal from a link provided in email. Make sure that you type www.paypal.com on your address bar. And when purchasing things with Paypal, check if the site use secure encryption.

I've been using pay pal for 5 years. they are a great company and very trustworthy. Lots of people who do their business on ebay take payment via papal; it is a widely used service. I have both my card and bank account attached to mine- and a pay pal card

As far as I am aware there is no worry about using your credit card. PayPal has been in business for a long time and is safe but if you are nervous you can try and use a prepaid credit card to verify your account. As a US resident I just had to add my bank account.
