I came across some people who cannot sing the national anthem.
This may be because of their lack of interest to learn that or what so ever.
What is your opinion on this....

I can only sing the national anthem if my right hand is on my left chest. If I remove it I forget immediately. If I put it on some girls chest, that's a different story.

I assume that you love your national anthem than any thing else because your hands tell that.Hope I am correct.

Yes I know both the first and third (for some reason the second is always missed out!) verses of our national anthem, I learned it at Brownies 50 years ago and never forgot it!!
God save our gracious Queen,
long live our noble Queen,
God save the Queen!
Send her victorious,
happy and glorious,
long to reign over us,
God save the Queen!
Thy choicest gifts in store
on her be pleased to pour,
long may she reign:
may she defend our laws,
and ever give us cause
to sing with heart and voice
God save the Queen!

How nice to hear that - that is the greatness of the creator who has given the power to remember even after 50 long years (memory).
Yes,even me too now 60+ now still remember word to word which I have memorized during my school days.
When THE NATIONAL ANTHEM is sung all my hairs stand still because the words are so powerful.

most of the times people just ignore it when they hear it. like during the start of programs, they would stand up, but they would still talk among themselves or most would stand up but wouldn't sing. i remember one time in high school, when this happened, our teacher scolded us about not singing along with the national anthem. she had us redo it, and she didn't start the program until she heard everyone singing.

Well, I do know all of the words. That has to mean something. I might have to think for a couple of minutes to remember everything and I might stumble over everything. However, so many people could not remember a lot of the national anthem. So I would have to consider that a bit of a victory to be honest with you. It was one of the things that we were taught, at least at my school but its obvious that those lessons did not stick all that well.
I do have the knowledge to sing it. However, the ability is another thing. I do admit that I am not the most musically gifted person in the world. So perhaps for the best that I do not try and sing. My singing could be considered to be a national offense by some people. Okay, that might be a little crazy but really its not that good. Of course, I could sing it, but not well.

You have clearly expressed your thoughts about the matter and there is lot of transparency in that. I agree.
But, a little interest in learning will be nice, because it is our national anthem.
I can only suggest this - and rest is left to your interest on that.

Yes some need a accompaniment -other wise they cannot do it alone.Nice but even then you can sing provided you practice with determination. It is easy.

I also know people who cannot sing their national anthem but I am not surprised because first it had to be taught in school itself and then there are people who cannot read so they cannot sing it and those who can read they are not interested to learn it.

Your comments are true - yes the so called literate people not singing the national anthem is very bad.
they really keep a deaf ear towards this.
And as you say this should be strictly taught in the school,in fact it should be sung daily in the assembly of the school.

Hi Bussybee10....... how are you today!.
I think I still can sing my national anthem from beginning to the end. Here in Indonesia when we in elementary to high school we sing it every Monday. So its impossible if I can not remember. I will feel shame if I don't know my own national anthem.
Have a nice day.

I am proud to say that I can sing our national anthem here in the Philippines. I have memorized it since I was in preschool.I think that people should respect their national anthem enough to at least know it by heart. For some people, I would understand if they don't know it because they have not had any proper schooling, but for those who have gone to school they should know it.

I can sing Indian national anthem word for word, even though I don't speak Hindi. Learnt it in school.
In my opinion, every citizen should know their national anthem. It is very important for sportpersons who are representing their countries and when their national anthem is played, they don't sing it along!! Whether they know it or not, I don't know. May be they just don't want to sing. When it is televised internationally, I think it is good to see sports person singing their national anthem. It just lifts the spirit. Just my opinion, though.
I can mumble a little bit of England national anthem and a bit of American as well.
(I am patting myself right now)

Good to-note that you know the national anthem. yes the spirit of sportsman will grow if they sing. But cant come to a conclusion weather they know it or not as you say.
I personally feel every citizen should be taught to learn the-national anthem of their country.
