I used JULYTEEN as a username here because my chosen one was not accepted, the system said lack of characters, instead I change it to what I have used now. To make it simple it's the date of my birthday JULY 10. I consider myself as teen the day I open my account so I make it TEEN instead of using a normal 10 and also to make it different.
Alot of my myLot friends identified as wrong. They think that JULYTEEN is a girl? Some friends here ask me, What my gender? Hehehe...It's funny question but I consider it serious. And to make the long story short, I am a boy!
Have your username mistakenly identified? What did you felt when you knew about it?

hi julyteen oh my I think I was one who was under the wrong impression too but I hope I didnot refer to you as a girl. So you got the girl bit and for awhile I kept getting the guy bit til I managed to put my gender in my profile so at least a f ew people could see i was a woman instead of a guy. I guess the last name hatley sounded more masculine. but I do not know where I got the idea you were a girl. so now I know which is good as I will not make silly errors. I felt amused anda bit upset as I had stated in so many responses that I had had a husband.lol lol lol.

there was no doubt in my mind that my first impression on you is that you are indeed a woman judging by the way you post. it's normal to see how people think of you differently, we are all supposed to be anonymous here so there isn't much to show when you're keeping your true self in the picture, that's alright.

LOL...I get this all the time. My name is alaskanray - I was born and raised in Alaska and my name is Rayda - WOMAN! Yet most folks see "ray" think man. But as they get to know me better, they know I'm not a man, I am in fact a woman...mother...daughter...and girl! It is funny when this happens, though, don't you think?

Yeah my friend same as with mine. Mobhomeir was being decoded from my real name. Almost everyone thought am a Muslim or an Indian because of that. I am using it always whenever I would be ask for my user name, and I always will as long as they still accept it...I think you should change your username from julyteen to "mandaya" just kidding Hulyo just to make you smile...
Have a good day...
Mobhomeir here...

Oh really, so i'm one of those who mistakenly identified your name coz i thought your a girl as well based from your username. Sorry. Now, with this posting or yours, it's all clear. So if i may ask what is your name?
as for me, i'm using Unah08 as my username, coz i don't want to use my real name hear or my nick, but unah is closer to my name, they somehow have a similarities, :) and 08 stands for my fave number which is eight. my username is not mistakenly identified based from my gender and i don't have a problem with it coz, it somehow feels like a girl's username.
have a nice day.

In addition to my comment, with my profile pic always partnered with my username, i don't think anyone would mistakenly identify me as a guy. :)
You should put picture of yourself as well so this mistaken identity thingy would come to an end. Well if it does bother you that is. But the red car you put up as your profile pic surely does give signals that you're a boy/guy, but maybe most of your friends here missed that clue.
smile. :)

I would have never thought until this discussion that you were a man. I thought you were a girl for a moment there and also that you were a teenager. Interesting username though and very unique. My name has never been accidently mistaken. Cause its a feminine name and I am female and plus because of my picture that I have posted as my avatar. Although, most people say that my name sounds Indian and they think I'm from India, which I'm not. That's just from some people though. Actually I am from the US and I live in TX.

I have to confess to having made the same mistake, without even looking at your profile page I assumed that you were a teenage girl. Looking back on this I feel in retrospect that it was a very naive assumption to make.
Nevertheless, it was not lkely to affect my opinion of your discussions and/or responses because neither age or gender are relevant in such circumstances.

i actually thought you're a girl the first time i saw your username..but then i noticed your profile picture..a girly girl will not post a car on his profile picture..also the topics of your discussions are not really for the girly type..so i know then that you're a boy..well as for me, i guess nobody will mistaken my username for a boy..lucky me..

I've never had my gender mistaken from a user name but people have wrongly assumed the kind of person I am from it so I try to be very careful of what I choose from now on.

I don't often get mistaken for my gender. A lot of the usernames I use tends to have the word "girl" at the end of it. In addition, I always have this anime girl avatar that I'm currently using. But one time someone did mistaken me for a guy, and my username for that forum was "animegirl86". Guess, he wasn't paying attention (=p).

not so far. it is very obvious that im not a girl. if someone said im somebody else he's not reading my nickname. thankful that everyone seem to know how to read so no one misconceive my identity.

I never experience that before well my name are easily Identify as man but I guess it only means that most people are asking only a girl and having more time to chat and communicate with girl rather than man.

My username is katykicker. MY name is Katy and my nickname growing up was kicker for a few different reasons. I think most people realise that I am female from my name but then again I have never really asked someone so I am not completely sure on that.
It's very easy to assume that you know someones gender just because of their username or because of their display picture and maybe I will think about that a little bit more now instead of just assuming I know something and making assumptions about things.
Katykicker was the username that I wanted when I made my mylot account and it's not a name that I have ever had trouble using on a website which is always good :)
