How do you study for an exam?

Do you study in complete silence when everybody is sleeping? I know some of my friends they wake up around 1am to study and after that they just go straight to school. That's like an impossiblility for me, heller waking up at 1am to study??? Some study noisyly and I hate those who do that. You know those kinds of people who memorize by saying the words over and over and speaking it loudly, not for me. Others like reviewing each other and asking questions, well I do that sometimes but only seconds before the exams. hehe... I study infront of the tv. I watch tv and during the commercial I read. Also I study while doing chores, I study leave it for awhile and cook and then go back studying. That's how I really do it. Lol... and it works for me. Let me just share that I passed the board w/ that kind of studying... hehe... How about you what's your style of studying?

I knew a guy that didn't study much because he was a realist in recognizing that the degree was more important than superior grades, so having a long-term vision is important to how we approach studying? What board did you pass? I'm studying you ;) Eric

When I was studying for my exams I did it during the day or early evening. I also did it where there was no distraction from other people or the TV. The only thing I did do was have a little music playing in the background. That was the only way I could do it. I couldnt wake up in the early hours and study right through then go to school, I had to sleep, and if I hadn't revised as much as what I hoped to the night before then, that would be my own fault for not making the time to do it.

Until now when I work in office, I am more concentrated doing my work if I'm accompanied by music. If it's too silent, my concentration is just going somewehere and I end up daydreaming and nothing can stay put in my mind. I don't like classic music, so I always play Top 40 music or a playslist that comprise on my all time favorite hits.

You don't! What I mean is that one just review his lessons at home because studying is done in school. That is precisely the purpose of being attentive in school and absorb everything that your teacher imparts by way of knowledge. It is in school that one gets to learn new things, ask questions, discuss the subject matter and understand thoroughly what had been discussed. At home, you just review and recall what had been discussed by scanning the pages of your notes and books to refresh your mind in preparation perhaps for an exam. One does not need to cram for an upcoming exam by "burning one's midnight candle", so to speak, so as not to suffer from a possible mental block on exam day. Just go easy by reviewing at home confident that you already know about your lessons by heart.

I usually study in a silent place. I really prefer it if its really silent because I cannot concentrate well when there's a lot of distractions. Even music for me is a distraction. I also don't do that waking at 1 am to study. I tried it one time but I end up forgetting everything I studied since I didn't get enough sleep. Since our exam is already scheduled I'm always ready at least a day before the exam. That way I can sleep well before the exam.

Hi. It's also good if you are well rested before taking the exam, so you are relaxed. Thanks for sharing! :)

My style is that I generally learn things by heart for my exams. I know it is not a good thing but our education system forced me to do this.

I did all that. When I was still a student I'd wake up really early and study. I'd also memorize loudly, even talk to myself aloud when studying mathematical equation. While doing other stuff like cooking or doing the laundry I'd study.I even recorded myself reading the pages where we were to read so even if i'm walking or travelling, I am still studying. :-) However, I'm doing this 2 days prior to the date of exam.;-) The remaining two days are merely spent to relax my brain and polish my memory by recapitulating what I had studied from time to time.

Actually I don't like studying, but speaking loudly the words by words it can make me easily to memorize.. but it is effective.. but there are times It is not effective especially in math subjects...

Wow.. seems like you are one of those who study and enjoy in 1:1 ratio. Good for you.. Mine is more or less a mixture of every ways of studying there is.. In fact even though now I'm in college, I have yet to really know what is my studying style. Seems like I'm a jack of all trades in which at times when I really need to cram all those info into my brain it would be a headache for me to figure out the way to study. *sigh

I like study in complete silence. I am easy to be disturbed. But I never studied till late at night. Some of my classmate liked doing that, I couldn't. They can even study for the whole night. The most funny thing was one of them slept in the exam the next day. I only review the textbook or lecture again and again, remind what the teachers said. I found it a good method. If I can get sample papers, I'll give myself a simulated exam.

Dear Santosmarichris, I do revision everyday after went back from school. After take my meal I will read a book and understand what I learn in school for that day for half an hour. Then I make a note in a map for the topic and put in my wall room. Before I sleep I will read the important point again for 30 minutes then go for sleep. I do the same routine for a weeks then on saturday or sunday I will do discussion with my friends about what we learn for that weeks. From the discussion I will share my opinion and knowledge with my friends then try to answer a questions about any topics we had learn before.Using this way,I can more understand and remember what I learn and more confidence. So far this method is work for me and my group too. Regards, fadyhalim

I always cram. I once tried to study a week before my exam. The result? I got a low score. When I study, I like locking myself in my room. I need peace and quite when I am studying. Then when I get a little sleepy, I turn on the radio for a few minutes while studying. Then when I am starting to get distracted, I turn it off.

I can't wake up early in the mornings to study and for some reason, I can't study past 8 pm. There's something about nighttime that makes it impossible for me, I think. I usually study alone in my room, with absolutely no noise, not even loud tv noises from the next room or house. And I usually take breaks every hour and a half or so, just so I don't get bored with my study material. I've skipped my breaks sometimes when I didn't have enough time to finish studying, and I found that I didn't retain as much. :)

Speaking of studies.., I haven't done that in a long time. I got to start that habit as I really need it. My way of studying depends on the subject. I like to have a calm atmosphere when I study. I think the habit of studying regularly should prevent one from staying up all night before the exams. Saying is easy, performing is difficult. I shall try to perform. :-)

Hey santosmarichris Most of my friends study alone,in complete silence. They say it helps them focus. Some other friends study for 2-3 days before the exam (yea no sleeping). And I study while doing something else.It removes the boredom.I usually post at mylot while reading and play World of Warcraft while doing homework. This way of studying works great for me because well i don't focus solely on studying and i'm doing some other things to help myself:). I am one of those people who memorizes by repeating the words over and over. That way, the information gets lodged in my brain and i won't forget it so easily.
