In the state of Florida we are overrun with Opossums.
My son and I stopped in at a local pet shop and they had 6 of them
a momma and 5 babies
Naturally my son being an animal lover wanted one immediately
I was a little reluctant at first (rabies, germs etc)
However I found out that the state of Florida has a program where you have to be licensed before you can take one of these little critters in your home and that you have all the right care of them (cage size, what they eat etc)
So we decided to take a little boy
We named him Scrat. However our wait was much like adopting a real baby LOL
We had to take online classes, pass a state certified test and wait for the paperwork to come back before we could take our little precious bundle of joy home
I have to say it was an exciting time with him.
I will have to find one of our pics of him and post here later. But I have to admit my fear of opossums faded and I now have the utmost respect and love for these hardy little creatures of God.
If you would like to find out anything about them, please ask away
If Nick and I don't know the answer I am sure we can find out for you.

What are oppossums?? I've not heard of them before? Wow, I love the interest you have taken in them and all the classes, licenses and trouble you went through to make sure they are looked after in the right way! Are they some sorta small animals? Do they need to be caged only??

Hi I was not sure how to add a photo here so I will start a new discussion and add the picture of Scrat our opossum. They are medium sized critters larger than a squirrel or rabbit. in the wild of course they are not caged, however we had a cage for him that had to be size appropriate through the licensing of the state.

Ok, will be sure to look out for your new discussion. I thought as much they would look or atleast be the size of a squirrel. Wanna see the picture.

Thanks again for wanting to find out about these little critters
Everything needs to be loved we just need to know how to do it properly.
