I agree that British accent is cute and appealing if these are neutralized accent. There are many Englishmen who have accents that are barely understandable. If you are just referring to the British accent used in BBC, then they are truly lovely. British English accent is known for being royally and elite.

The 'language' you refer to is what is known as 'The Queen's English', at one tome BBC was renowned for always using this type of language but now there are far more regional accents used on the BBC.

there isn't one. even if you just divide Britain into it's countries, England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales are all different. England itself is made up of different counties, and you get a lot of variation throughout the counties and different cities. the Westcountry has a sort of accent, but there is variation there again. Cornwall is different to Devon, and in Devon you can pick out a distinct Plymouth Accent, and Somerset is different again. Bristol is another very distinct one. Birmingham has it's own accent. Manchester and Liverpool are not far apart, but different. and Yorkshire is different again. in the South East, I grew up in Surrey, and just that one county has lots of accents. Godalming and Farncombe are easy walking distance, and sound completely different. and Binscombe is just a few minutes along the road from Farncombe, and while similar, you can tell the difference. if we look at Scotland, there are many different accents to the different areas there, and the same in Wales and Ireland. there is no British accent.

There are hundreds of different accents here in the UK, I always have to laugh at some of the 'British ' accents portrayed on a lot of American TV shows, they are just not what you hear in Britain!! I'm also from Lancashire ( small world) and as aquariand says there are loads of different accents here - some are VERY annoying ( to me the worst are Liverpool and Birmingham accents) for such a small country we certainly have a lot of accents!!

Yeah, I think it's the accents portrayed on American TV shows that I hear a lot...I don't actually know how to describe the one I like especially now that I found, thanks to you, that there are so many many accents that britains have...I think I'll do some research and see all your accents and then decide wich one sounds to me more appealing. Thanks for the answer!

I am British and there are lots of different accents in British born people, I was born in a place called Lancashire and have a different accent from people born in Liverpool. Birminham, London, Yorkshire, Manchester, Cornwall, and lots of other counties in the UK have their own accents which British accent are you talking about.

Yes I'm british and proud to have a British accent I think to me it's the clearest and I find the American accent a little harder to understand although watching films has sort of made me get used to it.
