If you are ready to get another dog I would suggest a Shih Tzu. They are smart and protective of their owners. They learn so fast and are lovable little dogs. I have a shih tzu who happens to be 12 years old today and I have had him since he was one. He is always at my side and would never let anyone hurt me. There is alot of work in taking care of their hair. I usually give my Cody a haircut and bath once a month and then try to remember to comb his hair everyday. They are the cutest dogs I think around. Good luck in your decision and so sorry about your dog dying.

hi stephiequalsgrr!
when buying dogs you have to know what you want like would you like to get a dog which requires high maintenance grooming and feeding issues. would you like to get a big dog that barks most of the time or a dog that chills out and spreads all legs and lay on the floor.
with mine i once had a shihtzu which we named maxie. maxie has this very beautiful, soft texture hair in a way that when you brush it just glides smoothly on the brush. maxie only barks when it sees a cat or whenever i arrive from work..
maxie was a sweet dog and i always take pictures of him and the two of us.
you must know what a dog requires in making it healthy, smell good and strong so before getting a new dog try doing researches in ways on how to care for each breed you plan to buy...
happy mylotting and take care!

THIS IS a question you already have an answer for.
1/ What size dog/ pet do u like. Small/ medium/ Large/ X-Large
2/ What type of coat/ fur do u like. Long/ short/ shedding/ non shedding
3/ What type- Pet/ working/ hunting/ show/ competing
4/ What do you like when you are looking at dogs?
5/ What color are you interested in. I do not have enough space
I lost my Big Boy on the left of the picture, we got another dog, my wife is a groom for pets and we got a New 14 week old puppy, A Standard Poodle Aprocote in color so my wife can groom and dye her hair. My Bouviers wouldn't put up with the pampering..

black labradors are great loyal pets but if you don't want a big dog then a border terrier is a lovely and loyal companion

Instead of getting a particular breed of dog that is cute, you should find one that suit your lifestyle. Do you have time to look after them? If nope, then find one that does not require much maintenance. Are you allergic or asthmatic? If yes, get one that does not shed or shed very little fur. Do you have child? Are they young? Do you have a big compound for the dog to run about? Etc etc. Many factors to consider and by the time you are done, the choice is clear.

You should get a rescue Shiba Inu. I have a Shiba and she is so cute. She is 13 years old, but still adorable and is a small dog too. They were originally bred in Japan for small hunting games, but now they just wander the streets of Japan. People go to Japan and rescue the dogs and bring them back to the US. I got my Shiba when they weren't very popular here yet, but now they are becoming more and more popular.
