What happens when you are suppose to attend official seminar and get bored with the speaker who speaks on a boring subject. When the topic is not interesting to me I usually yawn during the seminar and feel sleepy though I try to control myself to keep my eyes open, since its difficult to walk out during the seminar. Have you experienced this. What about you ?

My attention span in attending a seminar, w/ out any activities is a maximum of 3 hours. Lol. I get bored easily specially on the tone of the speakers voice. Either I think or plan something in my head, talk w/ my seatmate or write something like my budget for the month. haha...

Juicekodai... same here if the speaker is good, there is no issue, if I get bored, then automatically you go in sleep mode, also I found a way out now here, I have started browsing my mobile which has GPRS connection and now it is easy for me to stay awake.

I am a young researcher but I seldom join seminars/workshops/fora. For those times I joined being partly asleep is what I usually do when (generally) the speakers or the flow of the program becomes boring. I think that's normal but seminars are venues for learning. There's more than to see and realize other than feeling the boredom in listening.

When the topic or discussion is very interesting, i am really a good listener. If the speaker is very boring and not interesting, i usually yawn and try myself to drink a cup of coffee to stimulate myself.. I need to listen to very seminar that i am attending because it will help me during my re-echo seminar...We dont need to go out the area because it is very unrespectful for the speaker...

i know that a good listener is always difficult as compared to good speaker. in speaker form one has to speak. i mean one has to express views and others has to listener. but in listener form one has to listen and listening is so difficult than speaking. but i am a good listener as well as speaker.

Nitu, to get attention and make people listen to what they have to say is very important and needs to tune up with the speaker

I experiences it most of the time as a student most of my instructors were a boring lecturer even inside the class or in a seminar. However, I make sure that I won't be sleeping during it because It'll be a sign of disrespect for the speaker. THe capability of the eyes and the ears in a boring lecture sure it limited. About 5 minutes I guess and then, It begins to lose a person's interest in listening if it was outrageously nonsense.

I had been in MLM marketing for some years with my husband and i did many seminars and workshops. Its always important that the speaker makes the topic interesting no matter how boring it is.I also use to be speaker and i have the experience.I use to present serious topics like health related diseases also in a funny way and the crowd really enjoyed it.Or else people feels sleepy as u said.

Seminars are cool. They are a diversion from the usual things that I do. But yes, there are seminars that are boring, either because of the topic or the speaker. To keep me from being sleepy, I bring with me a pocket book. I also have a few e-books in my phone. =)

Actually it depends. You can not be a good listener if the topic is not interesting to you. Sometimes it happens that you are forced to join the conference you are not at all willing to though! There can be many reason behind that. Its very difficult for me to concentrate in any seminar. Most of the time i find it very boring,if the speaker not able to deliver speech interestingly. If possible i try to get myself out from the conference room as early as possible but sometime you really cant! That is why i always like the last row! You probably know why ! lol ...:p]

I choose the seminars I attend... I do research on the speakers profile and ask peers who have already listened to him..I always make sure that I get the facts and inspirations from the right people... its too bad if you're in a sleepy seminar.. what's worse, a seminar that wastes your precious time.

incuss99.. That makes sense doing research and then go ahead with the seminar... but sometimes if it is official and you are suppose to attend due to the requirement in the job.

Any subject is fascinating if the speaker truly cares about it and can push that passion out to the audience. I took real estate classes for six weeks from a woman who spoke in a monotone and constantly licked her lips. Most of the time, I had the urge to smack her and tell her the voice is made to rise and fall, as well as show various emotions and that if she didn't stop licking her lips, I was going to wrap it around her head and tie it in place! I flunked the test. I returned for a one-day review. The man was so excited about being in real estate, he immediately drew his audience into his thinking. We left class that day ready to sell the world! I took the test again, finished 90 minutes early and passed! After those experiences, I do not waste my time with boring speakers. There is too much excitement in the world of which I want to be a part!

Yes i am a good listener. Earlier I was not a good listener. I my mind used to wander around rather than the subject. If i ever attended a seminar earlier, i used to get lost in wonderland. Now I check the topic of the seminar, because if the topic is something which i don't like then i may feel bored and may yawn and go to sleep. Once i attended a seminar of which i was not aware what the topic was. i simply attended the seminar and then found my self sleeping in the midst of hundreds of people who were attending the seminar. I felt very embarrassed to do that. That's the reason why i now check the topic of the seminar before i go to attend.

for me it depends on the topic depending on that i will know whether i have to listen or not. If the topic is interesting then i will pay attention to the every last word they say. If i am bored then i would doze off if no one is watching me or i would just step away from the seminar. I can't force myself to listen to seminars which i don't like at all. There's no use also in doing that.

i'm naturally a good listener, but it only worked when listening to single person, a friend in need, for example. when listening to a seminar, i have exact situation with you, which is sleepy and boredom. what i did to conquer them? i just imagining things. for example, "what should i get for dinner tonight?", etc. the point is, i don't give attention to the topic of seminar.
