China or "Branded"?

every branded cellular phone has almost its China model counterpart. from looks to functions excluding just one feature all the time. so this difference makes it a small reason not to consider getting a China model phone rather than the branded products like nokia, sony, or samsung and the like. undeniably, i also have a China mobile phone and i like it especially it has a dual sim capacity and both simcards work at the same time as well. very promising and convincing. much more about its price, it's crazy low. almost just 25% of the branded kind. so, what's your choice?

Honestly, if there were china phones running WebOS, I wouldn't even hesitate in buying one. As it stands, I love my Palm Pre too much to trade it for a china phone running Android or some cut-rate OS.

With HPs Palm acquisition, you might find more phones with WebOS in the future. Palm created the operating system, but didn't allow anyone to distribute it like Android has - Hewlett Packard may allow more manufacturers access than before.

Doesn't seem likely. If anyone is going to be private with an OS, it's HP. They've spent too many years under Microsoft's heal. They don't want to be just another Android device or just another Windows device, they want to have something that stands out. Keeping WebOS to themselves is whats going to do that.

Who knows - I've seen proprietary software come and go - it seems that the more restrictive companies are, the more likely they are to go under. At any rate, I look forward to seeing WebOS on more than just two devices - there's talk about tablet PC's with WebOS.

I have never bought a china phone nor consider buying one for the reason that china phone batteries are not dependable at all. Even if they'll give you an extra battery for free when you purchase a china phone, its performance still isn't good enough for me especially that I use phone calls heavily. It's dual sim capacity and affordable price is really something that really drags most of us into buying a china phone, but I really think we've been ripped off for that. So my answer would be branded because of its reputation and that it is tried and tested already.. and it works out just fine especially the battery. That's just it. =)

i strongly agree about the battery issue. most "imitations" aren't worth spending for because of the performance. and at some time in the future, it will definitely have a malfunction. worst, you wouldn't know where to find a legal company and have it fixed. or there is no available spare part that can be found in the local market. and it's almost like saying that phone is in fact, disposable.

Definitely. I agree with you word for word. Also, when your china phone falls down.. most probably it won't function as it used to when you bought it. Or rather, once it falls, so as the whole phone.. I do have friends who owns a china phone and it really depends on the user to make a phone useable for a long time.

i guess nowadays with the technology upgrading everyday, we can simply settle for a china model..though i still prefer to buy original gadgets but the thing is, it is not practical anymore and beside sooner or later it will not be "in" again and you will feel like an idiot using an old model..so for the meantime, we can settle with china units..if ever it breaks it isn't that much hard to accept since it is not too expensive..

that's another issue to consider. or whenever you are quite forgetful and you left it in a taxi, you may just settle with another one. only trouble is the sim card if you don't have a registered number so at least you can keep the same number. same trouble goes with the contact numbers you already have in your lost mobile. hehe.

yeah that's a bad thing too..and not just when you left it..what if your phone was snatched or you lost your bag..a lot of things could happen..so i'd rather consider using a china phone specially if i'm not bringing the car..

Better go for the branded. Most China models are disposable. It's hard to repair damaged China phones. Plus, the replacement parts are hard to find. I am a cellphone technician and I run a cellphone repair shop here in our place. When damaged, I often advice China phone owners to just throw their phones in the trash can or if they can afford, secure a passport and visa, then visit China and buy the need replacement parts there!

funny but true! i once worked as part time cellphone technician until i passed it to my cousin including my machine/tools. branded models have catalogs and diagrams how you can fix them, but these china phones, duh! from nowhere i will find the solution of any problem if i have to fix it. strangely, i prefer the unfamiliar branded models than the common ones. lol.

Well i'll go for a branded one rather than its chinese version. Although china phones are much less in cost but still they cant match up in the quality with the branded one. they are hardly reliable and you just cant trust them .
So better not take a chance.
