Hi Mr. Hoang! First of all, thanks for creating this discussion. My mom is planning to visit Vietnam sometime soon and hopefully I can tag along (If my budget will allow it). I wanted to know what is the best month to visit Vietnam? Is there a particular month where there are lots of sales (just love to shop! ^_^). Also how much money is enough for 4 days and 3 nights vacation (plane fare and hotel not included). I'm not sure if these were discussed in others' posts, sorry if they were. Thanks again!

Thank you so much Mr. Hoang! My mom's birthday is actually on September, we might be there on the 28th. We are planning to stay on District 1 (I think that is where lots of travelers stay). I've seen lots of decent places to stay and not too pricey. Why are they trying to ban Facebook? It can be a good tool to use to promote tourism.

Hello,
The best time to visit Vietnam is Vietnamese traditional New Year's eve. It's around the last week of January and the first week of February, it depent on the Moon Caledar of each year so I can not know exactly. before New Year's eve some week will be the sales season. In New Year's eve time, there are many travellers come and visit Sai Gon, Ha Noi, Nha Trang and other famous places. But if you'd like relax and peaceful, the time between May and September will be the best time, especially the Septemper.
For a four days and three nights vacation, you just need around $100 for a person. I myself who live in here just need around $200 per month to live well.
Vietnamese is friendly but there are some people who want to earn a lot of money without working, so they will steal your money if they can, be careful.

I'd like to tell you a funny tip:
If you want to access Facebook in Vietnam, you have to know how to fake your IP adress! Because the Vietnamese gorvernment is trying to ban Facebook. They will tell you that is a technical problem, but if you use fake IP adress or fake proxy, you can access Facebook well :)

Hi hangvietnam
Don't actually have any questions, as I have been to Vietnam 8 times and it is my most favourite country! I just love it there and I love the culture and the Vietnamese people. I was there for Tet this year in HCM City. Also went to Vung Tau and Phan Thiet. What I like most about your beaches is the warm sea!!! We were swimming at 5am and it was just wonderful. Beautiful country...beautiful people too.

I would like to ask some questions about Vietnam.
1. Which are the best beaches? I like white sandy beaches with palm trees.
2. What is the train system like? Does it have sleepers on its routes?
3. Are some of the cities interesting to visit? Why?
Many thanks.

Hello,
1. The best beaches are in the Middle of Vietnam. You can visit Phan Thiet, Nha Trang, or you can visit Phu Quoc island, really nice island. There are also many other villages which have nice and pure and wild beaches but there have few hotel for foreiner and tourist guide, if you want to have a real cruise, go on! You may meet some Champa people and see some Champa monuments there.
2. The train system is pretty good and safe. It have a bed - wagon so you can sleep well but you have to pay more.
3. I recomment you should visit these city: Hanoi, Hoi An, Hue, Nha Trang, Da Lat (have been discovered by Dr.Yersin, teacher of Dr.Lous Pasteur), Sai Gon (Ho Chi Minh city). Hanoi have many interesting kind of Vietnamese traditional food and girls are really lovely there :). Hoi An and Hue is two acient cities and you can visit Phong Nha cave (new natural wonder of the world) when you visit Hue. Nha Trang is the best place for foreiner as you, nice beach, some night club, many nice hotels, many beach activities there. Da Lat is an old French city, there are many nice mountaint view and people are kind and girls are lovely too, event more than Hanoi! :D. Saigon is the place that I'm living in, it's the biggest city of Vietnam, there are many nice places around Saigon to visit, such as Cu Chi tunnel.
I hope these answer will have you some.

So, you are a travel guide to Vietnam or something? Okay, there is one question I need to ask you. How much is one bowl of Pho cost in Vietnam? Here in Atlanta, it is about $6.50 for a large bowl, and I think the quantity, the content is reduced while the price is going up.

Around $1 - $4 for a nice and hot bowl of pho. but the bowl will smaller, because the Vietnamese can not eat as the US. You should eat at least two bowls if you are the US.
I'm not a tourist guide. I'm just a journer who have traveled a lot in my country and I'm going to write a book. That's why I need to challenge my know;edge.

Hi Mr Hoang.. I have some things to ask about Vietnam..
1. Is it possible to stay in Hanoi and visit Halong Bay and be back in Hanoi in the same day?
2.Is there really a Bridge in the River Kwai? where is it?
3.How long (in days) does it take to do a Mekong River Cruise from Vietnam-Cambodia-Laos (complete with Siem Reap tour)?
would really appreciate your reply on this.

Hello,
1. It's impossible to go from Hanoi to Halong bay and come back in the same day.
2. Kwai bridge is a true bridge. But it's not in Vietnam, it's in Thailand :)
3. Wao! You are going to take a great trip! You need at least two or three day to visit the downstream of Mekong rive, then you need to takeat least one day to go to the boder of Vietnam - Laos. Then, from Laos to Cambodia, I have no idea, because I'm not been there yet.

Been to Ho Chi Minh and Mekong Delta area just last June. We enjoyed our tour a lot as we were able to find a good, honest tour guide who gave as a good rate. Quite funny but his name was also Hoang. THough it was a short 3 day visit, our group really did have a lot of funa nd we enjoyed the food, the culture , the history and somehow knowing the people of Vietnam.
Now, I want to see Hanoi. I want to see the French touch and weird as it may seem, the Killing fields and other historical sites. But also want to see the Halong Bay in that area.
Hoangvietnam, how many days would you advice for the Hanoi and Halong Bay Cruise. Then hat would be the best way to go to Hanoi from Ho CHi MInh.... boat or plane? If boat, how many hours or days would it take?
Would appreciate your response. Thank you.

Hello, if you want to have a Hanoi and Halong Bay Cruise, you need to spend at least two day.
If you'd like to go to Hanoi from Saigon (Ho Chi Minh city), the best transportation is plan if you'd like comfortable, it take you two hours to fly from Saigon to Hanoi. But if you'd like to view nice scene, the best transportation train, it take you around two day but very worth to try.

Hello,
1. There are so many beautiful places to visit in Vietnam. If you want to visit all these places, you have to spend at least two months. It's hard to choose which are the best places to visit. If you want to see a fantastic mountains, you should visit Sapa and Phanxipan mountain, it's really fantastic! Or if you'd like to se beautiful beach and some desert view, you should visit Nha Trang, Binh Dinh (there are few hotels for foreiner there), Phan Thiet. If you want to see people who live on the boat, let's move to the Far South of Vietnam. There are some more place you should visit, such as Ha Long bay, Phong Nha cave, Nam Cat Tien national forest, Cu Chi tunel, Phu Quoc island.
If you don't want to spend much money, try to find a honest tourist guide. Some tips for you: An awsome dinner just cost around $2 - $3 for one person, but if you have dinner in a restaurant for a foreiner, you have to pay more.
2. New school year will start in September. As I said, if you want to visit all this country, you need at least two months. If you want to visit one or two places, on or two week is enough.
3. There a a lot of foreiners live in Vietnam for a long time. Most of them came from Japan, Korea, China, Africa, USA and some from EU.
