I've been gaining weight this past few months at first I was happy because I thought I looked better with the few pounds added, but now I've started dieting because the weight gain continually rises and my tummy is now bulging.
I trimmed down my rice consuption and eat less of everything but I can't seem to get rid of my excess fat. So I thought maybe it's the coffee.
I searched it up on google and there are some studies which relates caffeine to gaining weight. However, there are other studies that contradict that statement.
When it comes to coffee, I don't know what to believe in... I just know that I need to have a cup or 2 everyday. I don't really care if it makes me fat.

OMG. This is the first time I heard about gaining weight thru coffee. If that is true, I think I have to double my intake of my coffee since I need to gain weight fast these days. Thanks for the info.

Bad choice as artificial sweeteners contain aspartame in them which in my opinion is worse than sugar

I've always have a love-hate relationship type of outlook on coffee.. I mean, I've read countless benefits and the not so good stuffs about coffee, and yet I'm still partially addicted to them. I mean, what's not to like about coffee..the aroma, the effect it has on me, at least.. and strangely, it relaxes the mind and I get lots of inspirations from drinking coffee. It also motivates me to do my job. However, with that being said, I'm trying to cut down on it still. I'd like a balance of some sort; don't want to be too hooked on it though.

Coffee doesn't make you fat. It has 5 calories per 8fl oz. It's what you put into the coffee that adds more calories to it! Use splenda or some other sugar alternative, and use low fat milk or low fat Coffee Mates!

Hi, ddaguno. I have never heard of coffee making some fat. Have you ever thought about trying sugar free coffee? This has no sugar in it. And no calories too. Having no calories cannot contribute to excess weight gain. Maybe you should consider trying this. It tastes good to say that it is low calorie and sugar free.

There is just too many contradicting news on coffee. I read in some that drinking coffee is bad for the health/heart while I saw in others that coffee help to reduce the risk of heart disease. Both report quoted reputated studies but both carry vastly different results. So which is which? I am confused. But, I still love my cup of hot coffee.

I think it's the sugar and cream that we add to coffee that makes us gain some weight. Otherwise, just plain coffee will only stimulate us but the sugar and cream are the ones that give us more calories. I have given up coffee for about five days and I would like to see results in the next few months. As of now, I can also feel my tummy getting heavy, and I am not liking it.

Well dear, excess of anything is bad. No matter if its coffee or whatever.
So you shouldn't consume anything in an excess just because you love its taste.
Moreover caffeine does have some bad effects on our system and not just the gaining weight thing.
So its better to keep your diet in check and avoid excess use of anything.
take care
Good luck for your dieting session :)

yep,I too dug and found something...
Its true that caffeine is related to gaining weight...but not directly......
Caffeine actually increases our appetite...esp for sweets and fatty foods ..

I don't know...maybe for some people, because of sugar. I myself is so addicted to coffee, I consume 5 cups a day but never gain a weight. I'm so thin, I do really want to add more weight hopefully by the end of the month. So if coffee does make one gain weight, hmmm... maybe I should try adding 5 more cups a day? :D. But i think it's really not the coffee, that made you fat.. maybe something else... :)

coffee it self doesn't contribute to your weight gain but sugar and creamer does, actually the caffaine in coffee contributes to burn fat if you use it in the morning with empty stomach before you'll have your cardio-exercises...if shredding those is your aim, eat 6 times a day and your diet should consist of 60% protein, 30% fibrous carbs (carbs came from veggies) and 10% essential fatty acids..

I don't think coffee can make you fat. If you add cream or sugar or milk then those will really make you fat. I know someone that loves to drink coffee but he don't get fat. I don't know. Maybe its just a case to case basis.

Its not coffe actually, but adding sugar to coffee. Sugar has fats in it and that makes you fat. If you want to put down a few pounds see that you eat things that have firbres in it. Like vegetables and fruits. Bcos fibre takes a lot of time to digest and it will burn out the fats in you in the process. Also see that you dont over eat. You can eat many time but little. Just what is needed for your body. When you over eat the excess food gets converted into fats. Alos keep in mind that skipping meals to reduce weight is not good.
