Hello friends, a classmate of mine has been to control his and his wife’s blood sugar level to safe limits, using the very popular vegetable, we call ‘Bhindi’ or ‘okra’, the English name is Lady Finger. See picture. He says.
Take two pieces of Lady Finger and remove/cut both ends of each piece. Also put a small cut in the middle and put these two pieces in a glass of water. Cover the glass and keep it at room temperature during night. Early morning, before breakfast simply remove two pieces of lady finger from the glass and drink that water.
Keep doing it on daily basis. Within two weeks, you will see remarkable results in reduction of your blood sugar.
I think it will work for me and my wife. My friends in mylot can try too; young friends whose parents suffer may be benefited too.
Well we here in India eat vegetable curry, vegetable fry, it is tasty. What about your place? Do you eat this as vegetable, ever tried this for reducing blood sugar level?
Please share.

Hi Professor!
Honestly this is something new I'm learning today. And this is great, really! We try to eat lots of lady's fingers as well here at home. They make their way into our different dishes, our soups as well as our traditional salads. It's grandma's recipes we share as we believe they are good for memory as well.
Thanks for the wonderful info.

I like lady's finger. Okra is often known as lady's fingers outside of the United States. The vegetable is a good provider of good bacteria called the probiotics. You know Lady's Finger can be applied to hair as the last rinse to make your hair bounce. Also, Lady's finger has other health benefits like it is an excellent laxative, treats bowels, it heals ulcers and also soothes the gastrointestinal tract.

Hi Professor, since there is a genuine and proven case from one of your classmates, there is totally no doubt to try to take lady's finger to reduce the blood sugar. Though I don't have high blood sugar problem it's still nice to share with friends and people around to take lady's finger as remedy to reduce the blood sugar. I think it's much convenient and easier too to take solely the water soaking with the said vegetable over night than to prepare it by cooking
We have some lady's finger plants growing in the courtyard all the time. There are vegetable plants which is easy to take care of. They grow vigorously in our place. When cooing curry or stirred frying, or steaming we like to add some sour tamarind paste to reduce its sticky fluid. We always take them as vegetable fresh from the yard.
Have a nice day

Hello dear friend
Here too they add tamarind or curd, some times lemon juice to reduce the sticky fluid if cooked as a curry with gravy, if you fry, there is no problem..
Thanks for sharing.
Welcome always.
Cheers.

Yes we do have lady fingers in the market and we usually fried them or steamed them to eat together with chillies. They're perfect for complimenting curry too. I believe the sticky waxy substance in the lady fingers, polysaccharides help in a way to lower blood sugar. I have not tried the method you mentioned, but would be glad to try it as my father has a high glucose level.

We used to eat Okra here in the UK most days, usually cooked with the main meal. It is something that I haven't purchased for a while and I was not aware that it would reduce blood sugar. Time to try some again again in the way you way using the glass of water method.. Thanks for the tip.. _Derek

That is a nice piece of information professor! My mother is a diabetic patient and let me recommend this natural cure for her. And the preparation method is very simple and hope it will not be a great challenge unlike some herbal remedies. Once again, I thank you and all other responders who add some more details to this post.

When you said Lady Finger, I thought you meant those oblong cookie/biscuit things . . . and I was thinking how could this dessert carb reduce blood sugar - ha ha. But now I see you meant okra. I had gestational diabetes when I was pregnant with my second baby . . . oh, I learned a lot about diet for keeping the blood sugar in control. I wish I had known about the okra water!! But now that my condition is over, I am still considered to be pre diabetic for the rest of my life. So interesting, I will have to try this!! We don't eat this much, but my mother used to throw it into soups and stews at times. I love it, but just don't eat it as much. I WILL try this for sure as a blood sugar reducer - thank you!
