I always read the terms and conditions section because many times a web site will sign you up for other services and if you don't read those terms and conditions, your credit card will be charged. If you contact your credit card company and tell them you did not authorize the charge, usually the company will back down and eventually they will credit your account. By far the best way to make internet purchases is to open a secure paypal account. I have never had a problem with extra charges and paypal shows a confirmation with the exact amount that you will be charge which can be printed off or saved to your computer. The only drawback is that not all shopping sites have the paypal method of payment option.

I don't usually shop on sites where I need to give them my credit card number, I use Paypal instead, since it is a safer way to pay without giving out all your information directly to a seller you know nothing (or very little about). Have you ever tried Paypal? It is connected to your creditcard, perfectly safe and free to get, so maybe you should look into that option? (Not all online stores accept Paypal though!)

So far, I haven't had any problems with using my credit cards for online transactions. I think it is mainly because I only use the sites I trust and I use recommended sites by the companies I usually shop with. For example, if buy.com doesn't have the ink I need for my printer. I would get a recommendation from them for another website that do have some in stock. However, credits are better to use as well as paypal when it comes to making purchases online because you can stop payment and dispute transactions you did not make. Check and make sure they use a secure payment transaction company. Verisign seems to be the most popular. I don't blame you for being cautious about who have your credit card numbers. I know I was.

Hi amazingcomm. Yes, it can be uncomfortable putting your credit card numberes on the internet.
There are a few things you can do to protect yourself. First, only use reputable sites, such as amazon, overstock, and major store websites. I have, also, used the state website to renew licences.
When using an unfamiliar website, I look for the security system they use against hackers. Usually, if you see the Verisign symbol, you can rest assured your numbers will be safe.
I've been buying online for several years, and never had a problem. You just have to be careful where you buy from.
