just wondering what other people say and their stand regarding this matter. i don't think promises are made to be broken, but most of them are broken. isn't it right?

of course. say you ask me to take you somewhere and i promise you i would and if i get sick, or something comes up with my family yeah the proper thing to do is tell you.
like my freind was suppose to take me to the doctors since i couldnt drive yet, he promise me but he ended up getting really sick and he called to tell me, he was sorry i promise you. i just told him well its not a biggie.
yeah i would dif tell anyone if i cant keep my promise i think being honest is the best way
but i cant stand those who makes promises and dont keep them for no reasons

Ur discussion really makes me think a lot and I've got to admit that Im not a good promiser.I used to make promises when I was sure that I would fulfill them later. However,it turned out that, after a time,I just forgot I'd ever made them...
So.. this is a big shortcoming of me and now Im aware of it.I think I am going to have a change coz. it actually hurts.

hi hushi
unfortunately there are so many people out there who tend to break the promises they make... sometimes, i too don't get to keep the promises i make, maybe due to unforeseen constraints or some other obstacle that may be blocking me from keeping it...but i do try and keep each promise that i make. it gives a sense of satisfying fulfillment to me each time that i'm able to

IMO promises are not MADE to be broken.
And they ARE broken many many times.
It is better NOT to make promises, and not to believe that they won't be broken.
You CAN accept a promise as how the person feels AT THAT TIME that promises something.
People DO change. Situations DO change. The question is how to DEAL with changes.
Ken Keyes wrote 3 prescriptions for happiness. His second one was - To accept whatever happens FOR NOW. That means that it doesn't work to say about something that happens that it COULDN'T happen, or DIDN'T happen. If something DID happen then you just HAVE to accept it as such.
THEN you have to decide how to REACT.

Promises can be and are broken possible because we are human, above all promises are like babies: easy to make but very difficult to deliver

I agree with you that those who are sincere and committed, do not make promises to be broken later and those who do like it, do not succeed in their lives.
Either I do not make a promise or if I make I do not break it.

No. Promises are meant to be kept and fulfilled. To say that they are meant to be broken is a gross case of pessimism. I hate that quote.

Totally, I would agree with you, I don't like people who breaks promises easily. The person who breaks promise is hard to believe him or trust him/her. Promises should be kept secured. Once gave promise to sombody try to fulfill it.

No, I really do not think that promises are meant to be broken. That's really not why we make promises. That's not the purpose of a promise. Promises are meant to be kept. It is true that sometimes we can't always keep them, but we should all do what we can to keep them and see our promises through.

Either you yourself finalize the end judgment that the is now Broken, or you can make extra Effort for that Promise to be true....

Well I dont think so. I know there are people around who used to break promises very easily. But for them we cant change the meaning of a promise.
For me, promises are made to be fulfilled. :)
take care

Promises are meant to be fulfilled. I hate people who made promises but just break it in the end. You promise that so you'll have to fulfill that.

Ya you are absolutely right. Not only me everyone is sure feel the same way.The promises are maid between the people with a hope that the other person will never break it but most of the people break their promises.I didn't say that everyone but there are some people who keep their promise till the veiry end.It says that if the someone's life depend on a promise then its good to break that promise. Some people broke promise because of that reason..........So I can say that promises are made to be broken if there is a need to break it......

YES you are right... that's why people must be careful when making promises. Could be very hurtful once broken of such promises by someone you love. Surely, ONLY GOD who made lot's of promises that NEVER been broken.
