I don't eat peppers, they bother me because of my allergies. We make chicken and beef soup and have even roasted a chicken and a spaghetti squash. We also cook beans in it. Let us know how those peppers come out...

I'll be sure to let everyone know how the peppers turn out. I do not make soups from scratch but I have wanted to for a long time. I need to find myself a good recipe to try.

I would think that cooking it in the oven would brown it more. That sounds really good... I'm getting hungry! Could be that I haven't had breakfast or lunch yet, just a light snack.

When I cook it in the oven, there was only one time it turned out good..Any other time it was always too dry, plus I had to keep watch on it..I don't know why, but I never got the hang of making a roast in the oven, which is probably why I make it in the crock pot, because I love roast..

I really want a crock pot. I thought I had one. I saved up my points for over a year on a survey site I belong to. One of the prizes was a crock pot. When I finally "cashed" in, I was so excited. The crock pot arrived in a really big box. I opened it up, and there was a very small box inside. I opened that up, and there was my crockpot. My two inch deep crock pot. It looks like a Fisher Price toy crock pot. I can't make anything in it.

Are your serious???? That's only good for what maybe a hot dip if that. How disappointing. You can find inexpensive ones for about $20-25 most anywhere and they do pay for themselves.

Last night I cooked turkey chili in my crock pot. I took two logs of ground turkey, dry pinto beans, a seasoning packet, and water, and plopped it on low heat over night and pesto, several nights eats. I live out of three crock pots and a microwave oven, rarely using the stove top as that eats electricity like no one's business.

Crockpots don't expel a lot of heat. They depend on the lid to help cook the food, especially if you cook on low. The metal parts are merely hot to the touch when cooking, the glass lid keeps that heat in the food. If you cook with it at night, you won't note much heat. - I note stove top cooking, even shorter duration, heats the house quite a bit more.

Turkey chili in the crock pot sounds really good. I've made that a few times before. But, it doesn't sound very appealing right now since it is so hot outside and has been for a couple of weeks. Maybe I'll make it again once it cools done a bit... like in October! lol

I don't really use mine too much either. I mainly cook beef stew in it about once a month. I tried to make a lasagna in it once but it only came out ok.

My favorite crock pot recipe is for a beef roast with veggies. It always comes out perfectly and we like to eat it with rice. Yum! What did you stuff your peppers with - I've never had that before. I know I should be experimenting more with the crock pot . . . just haven't had the time - even though the crock pot is supposed to save you time - ha ha!! Hope your meal turns out well!

I usually make beef stew with veggies. I guess that is the one thing I make the most often in my crock pot. I usually put in carrots, potatoes, celery and onions. Although, sometimes I do not add the onions because my son hates them. Occasionally I will add mushrooms too but, of course, that is another thing my son doesn't like.

I try to hide mushrooms and onions in dishes I make for my son sometimes! lol He usually finds them unfortunately. Guess I can just keep trying. :)

Yum!! I put in the same veggies for the beef roast (I guess it's like a stew but with a chunk of meat instead of pieces). We've got to have onion in ours . . . I think it adds to the the taste (my daughter will only eat them if they're not big pieces of onion). If I have mushrooms, I will add them too . . . I love mushrooms!!

Hi koalatbs, we usually call crock pot as slow cooker. I like preparing food using this appliance if I couldn't find considerable time to prepare meal. It's really convenient and easy as well to cook with crock pot. Most of the time I have my homemade chicken herbal soup cooked in this wonderful device. I like it as I don't have to take care of it every now and then. After several hours when the chicken and the ingredients in it are well cooked. I then shift the button to "keep warm" to keep the delicious soup warm until the meal is served We like to take red bean or green bean soup during scorching sunny. It's not convenient if prepare this soup on gas stove as we have to take care of it all the time. If not the soup would be dried or even turned into char if we engross in certain work and forget about it totally. But this won't happen to crock pot and I'm happy to prepare either of the said soup before going to bed. It's really awesome that we can enjoy having the yummy soup the following morning after getting up Happy posting!

I prefer a good roast beef or a pork loin. At Christmas I did ribs in it and they turned out so good the meat fell off the bone....they were wonderful.

Crock pot cooking is my kind of cooking. It's about the only cooking I haven't ruined yet. I always wanted to try cookng and now that I am retired I have been trying to learn. But I can't seem to get anything to come out right, lol! (except in a crock pot) My wife just puts a few things together and it tastes great. But, with the crok pot I can get it done. I usualy make a beef stew with potatoes, carrots and onions and maybe a can of soup on top. I have great respect for anyone who can cook a tasty meal.

My favorite crock pot meal is turkey kielbasa cut into bite-sized chunks with applesauce, diced apples and chopped sweet Vidalia onions. It's good on a bed of noodles or even rice with a side of green beans. Yummy!

koalaths oh stuffed peppers for dinner sounds delicious, I love stuffed peppers. Hope they turn out okay, they should . I have never used a crock pot and now I am stuck here in this dull retirement center where I cannot cook anything.Dinner here is served in about forty minutes. I doubt it will be stuffed peppers tonight but maybe stuffed cabbage which is also pretty good here. When my son gets money ahead maybe we can get back into an apartment and I can cook again. Good luck on your stuffed peppers. they 'whuld be just fine in a crock pot.

I thought it would be such a great idea when I bought mine but having the smell of food in the house all day long sort of turned me off to it. I did make a pork roast in it and it tasted good but I couldnt eat it on the same day because I had to smell it cooking all day long!

Interesting choice for the crock pot.My granddaughter cooks a salsa chicken that is really good. I usually cook my beans in it. Turns out pretty good too. Spices and herbs are important. Hope yours turns out good. I would be curious as to how they turned out. Did they stay firm for serving or fall a apart?

I used a green pepper, an orange one, yellow & one red pepper too. The green one seemed to stay firmer than the others. They turned out really good though.

Oreo in the box - This is a photo of my kitten, Oreo, in the box we kept him in for awhile when we first got him. After about a week he was able to escape so that containment didn't last long.
Thanks for asking about my kitten celticeagle. I think he is a blue lynx mitted ragdoll. You can see mine below and then compare his pic to those in this link... http://ragdollcat.org/blue.html The forth photo down on that website look a lot like my kitten, Oreo.

Hi Koalatbs Your dinner sounds simply delicious. I used my slow cooker a lot. I have made chili.soups, stews, pot roast, potatoes and ham,. The reason is that I love in a one room apt and so if I want a home cooked meal then I ether use my slow cooker, roaster, or microwave. Take care Snow

I cook stews in the crock pot when it is cooler weather. I am vegetarian so I usually cook lentils with fresh vegetables like potatoes, carrots, leeks, parsnips, swede, turnips, onions, etc. and lots of herbs. Or I cook fresh tomato or vegetable soup from scratch with fresh vegetables and herbs, maybe adding a passata to thicken it up.

That sounds really good karen1969! We're you actually born in 1969? Just asking, because I was. :) I used to be a vegetarian way back when I was in college. I went back to be a vegetarian all last year but have been eating meat again since I got pregnant in February. Lost the baby at 12 weeks along though. I've been seriously considering going back to being a vegetarian but it is just soooo hard having to cook a separate meal for me.

Yes, I was born in 1969, I'll be 41 in October, eek! Really sorry to hear about your baby. My husband eats meat, but me and the kids don't. I cook all vegetarian meals, so Hubby just eats veggie with us. He will eat meat in his sandwiches though or if we eat out or something, but I never cook meat.
