Are you a discussion starter or a responder?

Have been in myLot for a month, I noticed that there are two kinds of person here. Some of myLotters have discussions nearly as many as, even more than responses, while some have thousands of responses with few discussions. Certainly, we also have mixture, middle-of-the-roader. I'm so amazed that someone can start several discussions per day, they just start a discussion and wait for others' responses then comment on them. For me, I'm much a responder than a starter, I respond 10-20 every day but can only start one per several days. I don't have enough inspirations to start so many. So for the starters, how can you get so many ideas? Are you a starter or a responder? Why are you a starter/responder? What do you think about starting, responding and commenting? At last, I'd like to say something have no relation to this topic. I'll have a trip in next several days, so I can't participate in the discussing these days. Thank all of friends here, I'm glad meet you all in myLot! Best wishes!

I would say that I am probably a bit of both!! Although looking at my profile I have 297 posts for discussions that I have started and 1393 for those that I have responded to so I guess that I am more of a responder I must admit to being both amazed (and a little bit fed up with if I'm honest) the members who can post about 20 discussions one after the other, they are not serious myLotters in my view, they just think that they will make more money that way!! As regards to ideas, I don't sit down and think 'now what can I discuss today', something will pop into my head and I will decide to discuss that - it may be something that has happened in my life, a book I have just read, a news article I have come across etc. When I respond I genuinely hope that I am able to contribute something to the discussion.

I am more a topic responder than topic starter because I dont have much idea in my mind. Also I doubt my self if I can really make a good topic to be discuss with. And i believe that responding to a topic can help to enhance my vocabulary.

I'm very much a responder more than I am a starter. I feel it's more important to focus on my friends here, rather than start multiple discussions as you really run out of things to say and your not going to achieve much by posting simple discussions. I rather see people interact with me, I really enjoy the communication side of mylot and the only down side is the fact that some friends leave forever without saying they're going.

I am a much responder than starter. Yes, I also realized that some of my friends can come up so many ideas per day. Some of the topics are minor that we are not able to think of. No matter they started the discussion for earning money or just idea popping up, I would like to say I am not able to compete. LOL. At the first beginning of joining mylot, I am eager to reach the first payout, then I worked very hard and racked my brain to start the discussion. Sometimes I am disappointed as the topic is cool that nobody has the same feeling or have the impulse to respond it. Sometimes I am so busy at work and exhausted after work, thus I have no time to sign in here. But I still keep the habit of see if there is new topic. If yes, I will respond to it out of my mind.

Hi qianyun, Both ways work for me. If I have an inspiration, I would start off with a new posting. If not, I'm happy to browse around for interesting topics to reply to, I usually browse friend's topics and today's top. There are always a lot of interesting things to read here but sometimes there have already been a lot of responses and I don't want to repeat what others have said, so I will just read and not reply. I notice some people posting topics but they do not reply back at all, so I wonder whether they read what others have typed. If they do, why no reply? If they don't what's the point of posting the question? *me confused* Lastly, good luck for your trip and come back soon...

We usually can identify those whom are sincere and those that are not after a while.

I have been here barely a day yet, so have a lot of finding my feet to do. It's certainly my intention to do both. I am a member of a few sites, and topics come to me easily, just in everyday life.

I am definitely a responder. I have started a few discussions, but none seem to take off and get a lot of replies. I find it much easier to answer someone else's start, than to try to think of one of my own.

I have been a member here at mylot for probably about three years. When I first started here, I was addicted to it. I started and responded to discussions. Then I only responded to a few discussions daily and then responded to a few discussions weekly and then before I knew it I was only responded to a few discussions monthly and after that I didn't respond for a few months at a time. Then I would pick it up strong responding to discussions. Now it has been a few months since I have responded. I have been off work this week and have been cleaning, so today I decided to take a break and respond to a few discussions on mylot!

Hi there, Good question. It depends on my creativity and my personal experiences as to whether I regularly start discussions. When one of my pets or my boyfriends' pets does something that I think is unique and funny, I start a discussion about it. If I have a question or concern about something, I will first research it and if it has not been posted I'll start that discussion as well. If it has already been posted then I respond with what I would have said if I started the post. If I've had a really good experience with an online project or something similar, I can't wait to share it with the myLot community so I start a post. I like to keep things upbeat and positive as much as possible. Life is challanging enough, so it's usually my goal to keep things light and uplifting. Lately, however, and for the most part I've been responding more than starting. I hope you have a safe trip.

i am more of a responder than a starter. most of the time, i respond from email notifications. i usually start with my friends' discussion before responding to others which are not in my friends list. if i have read all and responded to those notifications of my friends new discussion, that will only be the time i will check and respond to others. i seldom start discussion, only when i have an idea which i think worth discussing.

Some of my friends like kent2smile are discussion starter and some Binthu are both discussion starter and very good at responding too. I however, prefer responding to discussions. If everyone starts starting discussion, who will respond??? And, I like to start discussion only on subjects which I love very much, Financial Planning and Mutual funds, but I found that there were very very few responses. So, I quietly buried the idea of starting discussions.

Mostly I respond to discussions started by others unless there is something I really want to talk about that I can't an existing discussion for. For the most part I find that are plenty of discussions on here that I can respond to and that keeps me plenty busy without starting more discussions myself. Maybe I'll start more discussions later on but for now, responding is enough.

I do both, because being an active MyLot member you should be flexible and do things, the important is you enjoy what you are doing, but mostly, I like to respond and I think I am the responder.

I could say I'm both. I start discussions but not several discussions in one sitting. I respond and comment on the discussion I find sensible and interesting. I read the news and blogs then add comment to it. I also comment to the responses of my discussions.

I've started less than 800 discussions and I've responded to thousands... I guess I'm a responder....

I am mostly a discussion responder because I would have to find the time to respond to a few discussions. I very much do not take the time to start a discussion like I used to. It depends upon which discussions that would meet my interests.

Lately I have been a responder. I just have not spent much time on the site and haven't thought of any discussions I wanted to start.
