If you don't, would you want to? I know a lot of people who used to for a little while and then they stopped. I can't imagine a life without my violin. I've been playing for almost 10 years now, and it's become a part of me. It's what I do when I'm upset or angry. Or when I'm happy!

I don't find it hard switching between them. I think they are similar enough that transition is easy. It was hard though trying to play the clarinet. I hated that and wanted to go back to my strings.

Wow nice! I can pick stuff up on the cello, it's really fun, but I love the violin. Isn't switching between violin and viola difficult? My brother plays the viola and whenever we play together, if I want to show him something, I'll play it on his viola. It's so hard to switch back to my violin afterwards, I end up stretching my fingers too far!

My grand father used to play violen, he was a member of a band in our small town in the Philippines before and that is how he made a living those days. He knew how to play every musical intrument, especially the violin, guitar, drums, etc. But he's gone now about 6 years ago. I remember when he was sick, he asked me to borrow a guitar and he played it really nice, he asked for a violin too, but we weren't able to borrow one from our neighbors. Sorry, you just reminded me of my dear grand pa.

I played a little as a child until my orchestra teacher left the school. My aunt taught me for a little while but she moved away as well. I hadn't thought about it in years. Great memories. Thanks for bringing this up.

hehe You're very welcome. All the teachers that I've had hold such a large place in my heart and memories, and I wouldn't have met them if I didn't play. My friends and I still call my high school music teacher our second mother. I'm glad you have good memories of this. ^^

For a long time I couldn't imagine life without playing some instrument, but now I haven't played in quite awhile. I played viola before violin, so I bought a 5 string violin which is totally awesome. I wanted an electric, but decided against it. Now I'm somewhat considering selling my 5 string just because I don't play it much. But I should try to start playing again.

I was one of those students who played the violin in grammar school for 3 years. Then, when I went to junior high school, I switched to the viola and played until I graduated from high school. I never owned my own instrument, and sometimes regret I never kept it up. I really enjoyed playing and learning to play the violin taught me how to read music which I used and still use when singing.

I play the violin and viola, but I prefer the viola because of its deep warm sound. The viola and the violin have both become apart of me. Thats how instruments are. you play them for a long time, then they become part of you. You play them in rain or shine and happiness or anger. Playing the viola soothes me and helps me to relax.

I only play drums. My little sister has just begun learning the violin so I want her to teach me what she knows! If you guys like violin/cello you should check out The Red Paintings. www.theredpaintings.com or www.myspace.com/theredpaintings they have a string section and rock and paint and have an alien foetus in a jar.

Yes, I do. My Father and his father all played the violin. The family is from Germany and Austria, so it's something that is handed down, from generation to generation.
If there was ever a fire, you would find me grabbing my violin and my cats first!
For most of my life my violin was my greatest possession.
*cringe* I'm afraid to say that an electric violin has eclipsed my wooden violin, for now.
I usually play for friends and family.
