When it comes to computer related problems there can be a number of different things going on and so it has to be a process of elimination to determine what the cause is. If your comuter is shutting down as you work on it then I'm thinking that it's possibly heat related! It could be your processor that is heating up, perhaps the fan is covered in dust and is therefore prevented from operating at optimum performance. This could also relate to your memory although the goldern rule when it comes to computer problems is to ask questions! How long has this been taking place? How old is your computer? I'm really thinking that it's heat related. I go inside my pc twice a year and I remove the dust buildup with a can of compressed air. The dust acts as a blanket and therefore heats up computer components and this can cause major problems in the long run. As regards reformatting the hard drive, you could do this but you would need the original disks to install the operating system as well as device drivers and so forth. You would also have to go to the microsoft website and get all the updates and this can take some time. There is something else that I'm also thinking about and that is something called cmos setup! When you first turn on your computer you get the blank screen with a message saying press del for setup or press f8 or something similar, it's different for different machines. Anyway, in cmos setup there's something called the boot priority. When you turn on your computer the operating system needs to be located and this is normally stored on the hard drive. The hard drive should be first on the boot priority list and then it's the cd rom drive. You could go into cmos and check this out to see how you have it set. You can scroll through the menus until you locate the boot priority list. Anyway, this is all guess work and it would normally involve a technician looking at your pc to establish what is going on if you are not that knowledgable in relation to computers. I wish you luck with this all the same. Andrew

Hello jagjit The first thing I would do is clean the air vents and the fan. You can take the side off the tower and use compressed air to blow out all the dirt. I have a feeling that may solve your problem.

When it's shut down automatically, it's usually caused by a virus. try to use updated antivirus. but if it's turn off immediately, your fan didn't working properly - overheating - automatic turn off. check your fan. for that "insert bootable disk" thing, enter your bios, change your "disk settings" (I forget the exact name) into IDE and make sure to remove all CD/DVD/BluRay disk and flashdrive. hth
