Does having lots of money gurantee a happy life?

Philippines

It's kind of ironic that many of us would never stop looking for more and more ways to make money believing that having plenty of it guarantees unabated happiness, lots of friends, comfortable life, and whew! very bright future- when there are millions out there whose lives, families and future got helplessly ruined by non other than the same M O N E Y- money! Now, we know that everything has two sides- and money, of course, has two sides- the good and the bad. When is money good and when is it bad?

Having a lot of money does not guarantee happiness and peace of mind. Money is a material thing. It can only buy material things too. This sounds like a cliche but in reality, money really can't buy happiness, health, sleep and peace of mind. A happy life depends on how a person perceives or defines what a happy life is.

Those people who said that having money gives them "PEACE OF MIND"- better think again. Now here goes my question... Why do some people hire bodyguards?

I do agree that money cant buy happiness...But i am sure you can create happiness with money. if you have money and use it selfishly this will not get you happiness....But you can use money creatively and for charity. This will definately make you and other happy.

I completely agree with you. Look at all of the big time corporate execs. and government officials that have money. They battle everyday to try to keep up with their money yet they will not vote to give their elderly a cost of living raise in my country and they want to raise the age of retirement.

It's very strange that not all people realizes the kind of joy one feels whenever they share their blessings with other people who direly needs it. Money may not buy us everything but we can use it to make everyone happy including ourselves. How? share it and save lives. Will you not feel happiness knowing that you helped save lives? Share it and watch the glow of happiness it can bring to impoverished ones. Share it and watch hunger leave the starved ones.... Just share it and one day, you'll get to know the actual definition of happiness. It is in giving that we receive remember?

Money has been everything now today in present world. But money can be bad either too. If u earn a lot of money you can stay haapy for some extent but not for long...All you need is satisfaction in your life and money cant satisfy you fully. Money cant buy everything it cant buy friends or love. so money shouldn't be given much more importance. A person running after money always falls. It depends on person to person how he/she values dat money.

I live in a place where the almighty $ is "KING" followed by the "POUND". Here you can buy anything you can think if you have $$$'s. That includes "friends" and "love". However I assure you as soon as the money runs out so goes the "friends","love" etc. I agree money can not buy "REAL" LOVE or "REAL" FRIENDS.

You guys are right. The kind of fun that the availability of money can bring us is just momentary. Be happy!

Certainly not. I think people that do not have money I mean the people that are not rich think they will be happier when they have a lot of money but I think it is not like that. They will get their money and they will buy everything they need but what if something happens that cannot be fixed with money. For example what if someone get sick and cannot be cured. What if you have friends but they are not real, what if you have a house, but not a home? Money are important but not everything

having lots of money can make one rather happy as you can buy alot of things that you want. Or do things with the money one has. But the love of money can cause a lot of problems and relational stress. I guess the bottomline is to monitor our own attitudes on money.

I do not agree with you on this point. I have to ask are you happy with your personal money situation? Think what it would be like if you could have any and all things you wanted for yourself and your family. Wouldn't you want that?

Money is neither good or bad. It all depends on what one does with it. So it is all up to each one of us. Used wisely, money does make one's life easier and happier. Used unwisely, it can bring us pain and sorrow. But happiness is not dependent on money.

It's the love of money that is the root of all kinds of injurious things. Money in itself is not evil, it is just a tool, or a means to an end. That being said, having money, or not, is not what will make anyone happy. The problem is how we approach having or not having. I couldn't help but notice that although you have started a great discussion here you have not joined in with those of us who commented on it. You will have a lot more fun, and success, if you respond and make each comment a true conversation. Welcome aboard and have some fun.

I have to agree with you on the point about money being only a tool. However tools can be misused and can cause harm if used incorrectly.

well maybe it is not 100% guaranteed, but maybe 75 % if i am not wrong. u know that everything can buy with money. i give an example. i feel so stress this week, i need to go out to get happy, buy some delicious food to make me feel better. if i don't have any penny, i would be feel more stress.that is the good news. the bad news that if u feel like u have power with money, so u would do anything to makes u happy even if it hurts other.

Some people with mney are just like you say but there are those who have money and they really try to help people like "Brad Pitt" and "Angelina Jolie". For them I have nothing but very high respect. They do not have do the things they do for the disadvantaged people of the world but they do. They are examples of wealth and chairity; a great combination don't you think?

I don't think lots of money can guarantee a happy life. As far as I am concerned the very important thing in life is good health and money comes next to it. If you have good health you have all possiblity to become happy unless you are very poor. Every person has the interst to make money. When you don't have any single money in your account and you are not working you wish to have 100 dollars in your account. Hundred dollars is a huge amount for a person who starts working for the first time in his life. Once he achieves 100 dollars, he wishes for thousand dollars and it goes on. People always need more money than what they have and their wish never ends. So, I can't set a limit for money and never know when a person can say he has enough money.

Only an individual can guarantee their own happiness but money really helps create that "happiness". Now days making just some money would be good. With jobs and the economy being in a mess worldwide the persuit of an income just to survive is difficult much less trying to be wealthy with loads of money.

Money will not guarantee you a happy but can protect you from the harm of working. I plan to achieve enough sucess concerning money in order to be able to live without working at all.

Yes, I would like to know the answer to that one. Since when is work not an honorable endeavor and an accepted way to earn a living? The problem with the average job is the employer usually doesn't want to pay a true and fair wage for services rendered. Just how exactly how do you plan to get your money if not from a legal and accepted form of employment; a job?
6 Jul 10
I don't think there's anything we do that doesn't require money now a days. If anybody will be given the chance to choose if he wants to be poor or rich, surely the answer would be the latter. The good side of money is that you get to buy and do all the things that you've dreamed of having. But the bad side is I guess some temptations like gambling, drinking and bad influences that come with it. So it's just a matter of keeping your head thinking, what is wrong or right, what is evil and good. Do add a lot of self-control also. Indulgences can be overpowering. Instead , if one has lots of money and doesn't know where to spend them, maybe they can give to the really needy ones or some reputable institutions.

You hit the nail right on the head. I agree with you completely. If an average person comes into a large sum of money it becomes up to the individual how and what they do with their new found fortune. It is always interesting hearing about some poor person coming into a large sum of money and what they do with it don't you think? What would you do?

Money may not buy you happiness but it can certainly make you want less. Look at some celebrities who seem to have everything and yet they are still unhappy with their lives. For me, money will be a means to make my life comfortable but not happy. My happiness is not dependent on something or someone.

Hi "anne". You hit the nail right on the head. That's the best comment I have read yet. I completely agree with you! It is nice to have money and it would be great to have what ever I wanted but I like you do not depend on a thing or a person to create my happiness. It's up to me.

Money is necessary for us to live in the modern world, to house, clothe and feed ourselves. However, lots of it doesn't necessarily mean that we are going to be happy. I know richer people who are constantly in a state of stress and worry. Money doesn't cause misery or happiness, it is just paper and coins. It is what people think about it that causes the problems. -Derek

Money does not gurantee a person happiness but money is something that we can't help wanting more of. After a person has grown up, they would know that to be comfortable in life, they would need to afford a home, food and entertainment. Then they learn that they are better off when they can afford better housing, better food and better entertainment. I think money is good because of all the material we obtain from money but we shouldn't be carried away because even with all money can buy, it is not the most important thing in life.

Having lots of money doesn't promise happiness but it sure "HELPS"! I think the problems financially challanged people are much more depressing yet people in this group somehow manage to laugh and smile sometime just from the simple things in life. The wealthy individual hass a completely different set of concerns . number one on their list is "KEEPING THEIR FORTUNE" and "ADDING MORE TO IT". Money is good when the person who has it is willing to not selfishly live their own "GOOD" life but be willing to share that fortune with others who are less fortunate by helping them get the education and skills to improve their station in life. Look for exmple at many of the world leaders both politically and in the commercial sectors who have "MONEY". Many of them came from very wealthy families and have known wealth from birth. These are our leaders who are suppose to have the public's best interest at heart. For example in my country, the government almost has a "stroke" the minute a bill comes across their desk for a raise in the mininum wage, or to give the veterans or retired people a yearly cost of living raise. Yet the rich can and do bale out the rich as in this latest world financial crisis. Yes it is nice to have money and it does make life a little easier but it in and of itself will not make you truly happy. What do you think?
