Have you ever tasted a true Filipino Chicken or Pork adobo? If it were on a menu of a restaurant in New York would you order it?

i know there is a filipino restaurant in new york but i cant seem to remember the name. I feel its good that people from other countries can taste some of our delicacies. but personally i hate adobo not because of its taste but because its the standard dish in every filipino restaurant. Youll find it everywhere.

Why then do you hate it if it represents our Filipino cuisine?

this is very common viand for Filipinos. I always cook pork or chicken adobo in our house because for me it is just easy to prepare and to cook. I don't know what you are pertaining to a true Filipinio Chicken or pork adobo, but I just learned it from my mother. If I will be in New York and will see it in the menu, I'll definitely try their style of cooking adobo there.

Exactly that's my point. If you see your native dish in a foreign land wouldn't you be curious to try it out or maybe really even want to try it out if you're an expat who's been long away from home.

i particularly am not fond of adobo unless am aware my grandmother cooked it. other than that i don't think i would order it anywhere: be it in a fancy place or not. i think really good adobo takes a whole lot of time to prepare and meticulous attention to the ingredients and the talent of the cook to all blend in together. i think it is one dish that could really set the bar for the good cooks.

i don't think i would still order for a chicken or pork adobo! I myself could cook it so I don't think I would still order that, maybe I'll just go for something which I don't usually eat and foods that are hard to cook! :)

I actually did get to try some Filipino dishes when I was in New York and New Jersey. The other dishes came close to home, but the adobo that I had wasn't as good as the ones we make here. According to my brother, it's the different brand of soy sauce available at stores there. Also the pork cubes/chicken cuts are too lean and bereft of the necessary fat that makes adobo flavorful. I tend to believe that this isn't a problem in California as there are plenty of Filipino stores there that sell local ingredients.
