Do you have common or house lizards in your home? Do you get rid of them or just leave them crawling and roaming around the house?

I do not have small lizards in my house, it is very rare to meet one of them in the city, but if we coexist with other groups of insects.

"...aphrodite" I couldn't agree with you more. I can not tolorate insects, especially mosquitoes and flies and I really can't stand roaches.

Yep, those are "GEKKOS" alright. I agree with you "aphrodite", they are really cute. They are really prolific reproducers too if you know what I mean. I have given my "gekkos" names and pretty much have been able to observe their mating ritual and have even seen their babies from time to time grow up to have their own families. NGC in my house. (ha, ha)

We have house lizards at home. Their harmless so we let them live. They come handly when theirs flies and bugs around. We can't control these lizards from entering our house since we do not have a ceiling, but it does not bother us so it's okey to have common lizards at home.

Better not to get rid of them since they are harmless and actually they also help in lessening harmful insects entering our houses. :)

I don't know some ways to get rid of them but I wonder why you want them out of your house, they are not even harmful and they actually can help get rid of harmful insects.

"...aphrodite" well said. "astersim" Why would you want to get rid of the little guys? They are very good for your home enviornment. Don't you like animals? What complaint do you have against the cute little guys?

yeah everyone has his/her phobia. When you are going to meet my best friend who has the same phobia like you, I guess both of you will end up laughing and hating lizards. I asked my friend why he is scared of lizards and he told me he just don't want the feeling of them touching his skin because they somewhat like have sticky legs that can stick permanently once touches you.. something like that.. funny.. :)

"dsrp..." what's up with being afraid of a little, at the most, four inch lizard? They don't bite and they are not poisonous. So, what's the problem. The insects in your home can cause more damage to you and your family than a little "gekko". They eat the insects. Why are you afraid of them? I think if I were you I would want to know.

Hi cheatedaphrodite, as an asian living in the tropical rain forest area, small creatures like lizard, cockroach, fly, mosquito, etc are quite familiar to us. It's really disgusting that flies would dirty our food and mosquitoes would suck our blood. They might spread diseases at the same time after they have filled up their appetite We could see lizards crawling on our house walls as well. They are really active in night time. I notice that lizards are really patient when waiting to catch their prey. It's really irritating to see the dropping of the lizard on the furniture or whatever in our house. I could see lizard moving rapidly and get itself hidden when I switch on the kitchen light. I asked my hubby to get rid of the lizards before. He said lizard is useful creature for it helps us to catch mosquitoes Happy posting

My husband feel happy as I believe his saying. But I'm sad that I'm the one who have to get rid of the lizard dropping on the desk and some other places often. I hate to see the "white hat black clothes" little disgusting stuffs happen to occur in our house ever now and then I appreciate the patience of the lizard as well. And it's very interesting to watch how this creature to wait patiently and to capture its prey. This has left me a deep impression indeed Take care

yeah you're hubby is right, lizards are small creatures but would help us a lot. I use to hate lizards since I don't want the sound they create but one time when I was lying down, I am staring at the ceiling and thinking how to catch the lizard that is always crawling on my ceiling at night. While I was thinking of some way to catch it, I saw how he got near a small flying creature and swallow it. Then it remained calm waiting for the moth to land so it could catch it as well. They are really patient and that's what I appreciate about them.

There was a little baby gecko living in my kitchen for several months. He hid in the curtains or in the ceiling light fixture. My cat seriously wanted to catch it but she never was able to. One day when I opened the patio door it scurried out so I guess it got tired of us.

Once you will see a bigger one soon, it might be that little one you think might have scurried away. They really don't get out too fast, they just hide well and gets out when they feel no one is around or when hungry.

I don't have lizards where I live now, but I used to have them all the time. I usually caught them and put them back outside in the wild. I didn't figure they'd be able to find enough to eat inside the house!
• Philippines

They can survive just living inside the house because if not they will prefer to stay out. They are fine with fly and mosquitoes I guess.

Hi! We have many lizards roaming around our house and I treat them as my best friends. Especially when they make sounds, I count the number of ticks they make and create a sentence with the same syllables. For example, if the number of ticks is 6, I can make sentence like "I will receive money."
• Philippines

So I guess you are always aware every tick they create. Hope they won't be ticking at the same time and confuse you with your counting.. LOL

Our backyard is filled with lizards. They are everywhere and I absolutely love them. They are so cute. We definitely leave them alone, let them crawl wherever they want to. In fact, I had to protect them once or twice from little kids who want to throw things at them. lol

Hi "Cheated..." Interesting discussion you started here. Yes I do have "house lizards" in my house. They are called "GEKkOS". Where I am from; MAUI, HAWAII", they are considered sacred and good luck to have in the home. They eat mosquitoes, ants and many other small household insect pests. I live in Thailand now and the feeling about them is the same here. I think the little guys are really quite cute. Some people would say they are a pest beause they leave their droppings everywhere but for me it is a small price to pay, cleaning up after them, compared to getting sick from some disease bearing insect bite don't you think?
• Philippines
11 Jul 10
I really don't consider them as a pest, in fact I love them since they can help finishing bad insects inside the house. And yes you're right, their poop does not take too much time to be clean. I guess they don't smell that bad either.

yup we have lizards at home-small common house lizards and big lizards we call 'tuko'. haha. the bigger ones make a lot of noise, they create 'tuko' sounds, hence their name. we just leave them alone yeah.
• Philippines
8 Jul 10
I have heard about that tuko from one of my friends but I never saw one. My friend told me that they seems like a scary creature and when you try to touch them or move them with a stick it looks like they are going to attack you and yeah they also create noise according to her. It's good I have no tuko at home home but just a plain common house lizards.

We don't have any wild lizards in the UK, so this isn't an issue for us really. I do like lizards though and some people here do have some as pets, things like geckos. I think they are fascinating creatures but they need a lot of expertise to look after them properly.
