Reformatting is a bad idea. Sometimes the virus could infect your computer even with a reformat because it can stick to a important system file. The best way to remove the virus is to go download MalwareBtyes AntiMalware. Update it and scan a quick scan. If the virus does not let you operate in normal mode, go to safe mood. Now run your normal anti-virus, do a reboot, and run MalwareBytes AntiMalware again, and followed up by your current antivirus, and job done. Other than that, if it still persists, ask someone on a computer forum. Your last option is a reformat, but make sure you turn off system restore.

I don't have any idea how to fix a computer. I'm lucky that my son is computer savvy and getting a degree in computer science in Dec. If I had an unremoveable virus, he would find me another computer. This just recently happened by the way.

If I have noticed virus in my computer I do this things. First what I do I scan my computer with good antivirus like Kaspersky. After scaning I see what virus, or how much have my computer. If problem is not big I make a backup, but If this do not work I reinstall my computer set a good antivirus and stuff. Usually we get virus, because we are surfing in mysterious pages or we have downloaded a program with virus. Take care, Have a nice day!

You can make a bootable virus removal cd. When you boot from it, it can scan your hard drive for a virus. If the virus cannot be removed, you can also wipe your hardrive with "partition magic"'s live cd.

They call me a computer geek, but I don't know why. All I know is basic to intermediate levels of computers. GEEKS know the highest measure on computers. Anyway, back to your question. Usually I could remove all viruses. If you have a anti-virus, and you still got infected, then try this program, http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam-download.php. Update it, and run a scan. Its completely free. Otherwise, if you have a virus that is called the "recycler virus"
it is currently unremovable. Nonetheless, it seems like it prevents other viruses from infecting me, and it doesn't do any harm. This is the only virus I cannot remove.

This happened to my computer once before and I had to do a full system recover. This means taking it down and wiping everything out and rebuilding it. Just make sure that when you do this you have the recover disc, any software disc you need and a good anti-virus. Without the anti-virus you are likely to be doing this on a regular basis.

If the virus in my computer cannot be removed I would first create a back up of my important files and reformat my PC. Install a new set of anti-virus and scan my back up copy. Or maybe I would change the operating system I am using to one that can't be invaded by viruses.
