Self esteem in teenage girls.

As a guy I can't seem to figure out how so many teenage girls have such low self esteem. I mean a lot of them seem to think there ugly when there beautiful beyond belief. It drives me crazy when a chick disagrees when you complement her on her looks. Speaking of looks, stop bloody wearing such tight and revealing clothes if you don't want us looking.

I think this is a problem that has been going on for years with teenage girls and even younger. Part of the problem is probably all of the magazines and tv shows that they see with girls that "look" perfect all the time. So they think they should look that way.

I guess. But this one chick I talk to is WAY hotter then 95% of chicks in those magazines and she thinks she's ugly. And I might add that is without makeup. She is all over an amazing person in everything. I think that they really have to just be happy with who they are and if they're not then work out/diet until they are. Or change themselves someway to what they want to be.

It could be a couple of things: someone may have told her in the past that she is not attractive (probably because they are jealous) and that could be in the back of her mind. Or, maybe she's just shy and knows she is attractive but gets embarassed if anyone says she is pretty.

From time immemorial, girls have been taught that they are inferior and second class citizens. That has entered the mass consciousness. Therefore, there are girls who consider themselves ugly even though they are beautiful.
However, things are slowly changing now. Nowadays, there are plenty of girls who think they are beautiful even though they are actually ugly. That is because many people have stopped considering girls as second class citizens. Girls have started being treated with respect.

i think its not just teens, most grown women are like this too. i think its because of the modles and they are told you need to look like them.
but i was once at the mall and this lady well let say didnt have much on.. and her man gave me a dirty look for checking her out.
so i said to him.." hey at least i am not laughing she's good looking and if you really dont like other guys looking at her, then she need to wear more"

One of my guy friends asked me one day "Youre a girl so im going to ask you this.. Do girls say that they are ugly in order for the guy to disagree and tell them that they are pretty JUST to give them a compliment?". I didnt really have an answer for him because in some cases, his question is true. In some cases we just want to make sure that the guy is somewhat attracted to us. I've been dating my boyfriend for almost 4 years now and i still ask him if i look ugly. The way he compliments my looks reassures his attraction to me.
