Even when I was 18 my mother used to tell me I was too old to play games!?! I'm 35 now and my wife is trying to say a similar thing. Is there really an age where people should put down the controller?

You are never too old to play video games. I am 28 and play. It's part of our generation.
I beleive like everyone else said the key is balance. When is starts to interfere with personal life then it starts to become a problem with others. The key is to learn to accept some compromise. But like in all situations take some time and do something with the family, do something spontaneous and do something with her 1 on 1 that she likes. In return have her play games with you. Have a family night with games and show her how this type of media can bring people together. They have lots of family games.

Well speaking for experience it comes down to how you balance your home life with gaming. I am 25 years old and married with a 2 year old and my main hobby after work is sitting down and playing video games, and like you they are a way for me to keep in touch with people and have fun at the same time. Just remember to spend time with the ones who are in the house with you.
Also you are never too old for games, my Dad is 56 and is kicking it on XBOX live.

I think it is alright for people of all ages to play video games. The problem is how much are you playing? Especially since you are married and if you have kids then I can see why your wife would be upset if you are playing a lot. I don't know how often you play the video games but I think maybe you should make a compromise with your wife. Maybe just play twice a week for one hour each time.

Thats a good idea, but I get into them too much, coz I'm chatting with friends online, from all over the world (using mic and headset). I live in Japan, but friends and family are in the UK, USA, CAN. It's like free overseas conversation.
I try to limit by time to about 1 hour a night now tho.

No. Also, your wife doesn't accept you for who you are? Yeah...should try and just tell her that this is your hobby, and to deal with it.

NO! Also they are ignorant for saying so. The normal hardcore gamer is around 18-40 years old. Video games are not JUST games, they are an interactive media and art form.
When anyone says that your "too old to play video games" ask them "are you too old to read fiction", "too old watch movies", "too old to enjoy great story tell?" The answer for those questions should be the same to "are you too old to play video games?"

i think age is no reason for one to play video games unless it is affecting your personal life.
