Is it wiser to buy frozen meat rather than the unfrozen one?

I was at the supermarket a few days ago and I bought frozen beef. I was expecting its going to be expensive cause its beef and its usually like that. I was surprised that one piece of steak was only $1 when its usually more than that when its not frozen. So I was thinking, its better to buy something that is frozen cause its less heavy. I also researched on the net about ice and its says there that the mass really doesnt change but the density and volume does. And ice floats on water because of air bubbles in ice. What do you think? Am I making sense? Has anyone among you observe the same thing?

I would always buy frozen meat, It has less chance of miro-organisms living on it. "ice floats on water because of air bubbles in ice" O.o Ice floats because it has less density than the surrounding water. where did you get the air bubbles from?

That's technically small air bubbles in them. I read that somewhere I just cant remember where I read it. And yeah, I also said details about the changes in the density. Of course, mass will not change but the density will.

i think it would be better if you buy something fresh coz if the meat is frozen we dont know how long it already stays in the freezer and maybe the reason why they sell it for cheaper amount is because the quality is not the same as the one that is being sell in expensive price.

The one I bought at the supermarket are not the ones that has been stored in the freezer for a long time. The meat I bought was butchered on that day but they came straight out of the freezer that's why they are frozen. They are also consumed on the same day. I was just saying that if you are going to buy something at the supermarket, choose the one that's still frozen that just came out of the freezer.

Every 1/2 a year i have a "beast" killed for beef, That generally fulls up my decent sized chest freezer (all that meat for $250 :D :D). After 1/2 a year the meats still fine , i cant taste any difference.

Oh! The frozen one I was talking about in my post was fresh meat that was butchered the same day. They came straight out of the freezer that's why they are frozen. They are the type to meat that are being displayed at the counter and shoppers choose the part they like. I was not talking about the frozen ones inside the their freezer that has been there for a long time. And those things they have there are much more expensive than the butchered one that day.

I think frozen meat is much expensive compared to the fresh butchered meat in the wet market. It is because store used electricity and a package for every piece of it. If that market store is selling cheaper pack of beef , I think you have to check the kilogram. Frozen meat are cheaper because they are pack in 1/3 , 1/4, 1/2 of a kilogram; for consumers convenience. This is what they called market strategy. Both of them have advantages and disadvantages depending on how we would like it to be.

I have tried comparing the prices in two different supermarkets and they are the same. The frozen one is the same as the butchered during that day its just that they came straight from the fridge that's why they are still frozen. They actually get thawed on the same day. I went to the supermarket very early that day and most of the meat they have there are still frozen. I didnt have a choice but to choose what they have there and I observed that they are actually cheaper than the usual ones I get that are already thawed because the density decreases when its frozen.

In my country frozen food is actually more expensive, I believe it's like this because frozen food is reserved better. Although when it comes to beef, the frozen one is actually cheaper.

If you are talking about frozen T-bone steak, gourmet meat and frozen turkey, they are also very expensive here in our country. There are products that are butchered on that day and they came straight from the fridge that's why they are still frozen and when you weigh them, they are a little bit lighter.

Do you have the time for it to thaw or not?

There's plenty of time to thaw it, of course. After you buy them at the supermarket and the temperature changes, they are starting to thaw. I was just after of their price and I am going to prove my theory by going back there in that supermarket but this time I am buying the thawed one and compare the prize.

According to my doctor friend, frozen meat is not good for health and sometimes it even results in digestion problem.Do you always keep it in freezer for more days? if you have the habit of keeping it for more number of day's then better stop it at once as it is not at all good for health to keep it for so longer period and it is good if you don't freeze or freeze only for short term for your own good health

It doesn't matter if it is frozen as long as it is frozen correctly and you thaw it out properly first. Fresh meat tastes nicer and is tastier but, frozen meat is just as good.

As they always say. Anyway, A I said in the other response, as long as we are satisfied with what we have then that's good enough.

Frozen meat is cheaper as well. However, in my area, frozen meat is usually imported and not really popular with locals. We could get fresh meat like two to three times a week. I also prefer fresh meat. Somehow they taste better. Also I don't keep them for long so I don't know about the density or mass. Never test them like that anyway.

What I bought was not that kind of frozen meat they have stored in the store for a long time. They are the same kind of meat that they butcher everyday but they came straight from the fridge that's why they are still frozen. I also went to the supermarket early so I can make sure that I have the best quality of meat.

Buying frozen meat is a pretty good idea. There is a simple reason for it. You can stock up on it easily and put it in the freezer. That way it will keep for a long time and thus, you don't necessarily have to cook it right away. Especially its a good thing to do when it is on sale. While I think unfrozen meat might need to be cooked right away. We have a large freezer in the basement that we store meat. When its on a sale, we buy it in bulk. That way, it can be stocked for the winter months and that way it does not have to be bought then. So frozen meat is the best to buy, because it keeps far longer, so it can be stocked up, if you keep it in the freezer. Less meat has to be thrown out that way.

Its a good idea to buy meat in bulk when they are on sale. It will help you save more time and money. We dont have a large freezer just like you do so I buy meat every week and make sure that we're able to cook them that week.

For your first 2 sentences, it pretty much make sense to me. At the last two sentences, I had no idea what you talking about the iceberg though. I have lived in the u.s. long enough, and what we purchased are frozen food majority. To honest, I would rather taste some fresh meat than frozen one. At least it would taste better.

Ok, well I was just trying to explain the situation cause I was thinking that if there are more facts then I might sound convincing. lol Anyway, a lot of people say frozen ones taste better and others also say fresh ones are also better. I really dont know about that now but as long as we're satisfied with what we bought then that's good enough.

Buying frozen meat IS a good idea. Because when buying unfrozen ones, you not only get a higher price, you would eventually have to freeze them for keeping anyway. Don't tell me you would be going to the supermarket everyday to buy fresh meat just enough to cook for the day. Anyway, just like what the others said, it also prevents bacteria growth.

Yeah! You are right! I also dont want to go to the supermarket everyday just to buy meat. Its more convenient to buy meat that's frozen cause its easier to store them and keep them in the fridge for later use during the week.
