Did you know that Facebook is posting our phone numbers now?

If you click on account settings and then edit friends then click on phonebook on the left side menu - it will pull phone numbers from all your contacts profiles!! Cell and land numbers. This is very scary. You have to go in and adjust your privacy settings to keep yours from appearing. Have you noticed this change? Does it bother you as it bothers me?

It doesn't bother me for myself. I never post my information anywhere. But I just about had a heart attack when I checked out my 13 year old daughter's facebook page to find that she had posted our home phone number, her cell phone number, and our address. I quickly went in and changed that.

Facebook has been like this for a while. It's not scary, they didn't do any digging to find it and they aren't giving it to anyone who's not on your friends list. They only have your phone number on there if you posted it on your profile. If you look closely you will see it doesn't have all your contacts phone numbers. They only have your phone number if you posted it. You don't have to edit any privacy settings, if you don't want your number to appear in people's phonebooks you can just not post your phone number on facebook to begin with, or delete it from your profile.
Also, if your number is on your facebook, it only appears in phonebooks of your facebook friends. If your facebook friend's wanted your phone number they could also just go to your profile and get it there.. So if you don't want them to have your number, you may want to delete it.

It depends on your setting. It could also be friends of friends which opens it up to many more people. I know my son has over 800 friends on facebook.

Yes but if people don't want others to have your number then why post it? Its not necessary to do so.. especially if you don't want people to have it

I am in charge of my personal info at facebook. If I don't want people to see my info I don't put it on my site. For me, I only use facebook for communication with friends, family, church and RV organization. I have no members at facebook I do not know. They probably already have my phone numbers and addresses. I am very careful with my security settings.
I am planning on opening a second facebook for marketing. I will not use my home or cell phone or city. I will use state only. I will have a special email just for that account. I will still be cautious about people I allow as friends and should they abuse or spam me, I will delete them. I think my plan is logical and reasonable. What do you think?

I have been cautious for a long time. I was a licensed counselor for 15years. Confidentiality became my lifestyle, therefore cautiousness. Anyone can learn that level of cautiousness if they focus on it. It depends on how important it is to them.

I only put down in my Facebook/edit profile that contact information I would want public, which included a web based email.

If I were you, I would remove any data you don't want all over the planet. That includes deleting phone numbers and addresses. Get yourself a web based email for people to contact you at.

Yes i had seen this, this scary thing even happened with me. I have no idea from where my number was visible to them, the most strange thing is i never give my numbers on socile networking sites, but to my wonder in one day i had got around 200 calls. Saying they found my number from my facebook. funny and scary too.

Oh my, i did not know this.I will have a look at my account and if this is the case i think i will play delete with my account as i have an ex directory phone number for the reason of i do not want people to get hold of it.That is shocking that facebook has done this and there is no need for them to have it on display like that.

You can take your number out or make it visible to only you.

That is not right! We all have the right to keep our contact numbers to our own preferred friends. Facebook doesn't have the right to divulge our numbers to just about everyone.

it depends on what your settings are on. if it says friends of friends then many more people have access to it.

I checked mine and it's not on there. I have had my facebook forever but I assumer when I did I didn't put an exact address or a phone number. Social sites do not require those. I only put important info on important things. It keeps me from having to ever worry about my privacy issues.

I have not noticed this one. Thanks for informing us. It does bother me. I don't want anyone with bad intention to get my personal number. Is this something new? Honestly, I have not explored facebook that much yet. I only use facebook to get in touch with friends, play games or shop online.

Facebook seems to be making changes lately and not publicly announcing them. It is frustrating.

I know most of us are facebook members. But i think we all need to be careful on what information we put. like our whole birthdate, our location, our current location, hometown, our contact numbers. these things or information are used for validation. example.. our credit cards. they ask information about our birthday and our last school attended. and these information are all in facebook! so be careful. plus when we update every now and then our location at a time. i saw a news before. that the robbers used this so they can go and rob their house.. so just be careful! :)

I know about it and I don't mind. One, I only posted my cellphone number, which in the Philippines is very easy to change (and lose, if someone steals your cellphone). I didn't post my home phone number. Two, I only approve Facebook friends that I have met personally, or, in case of my online friends, I have known for a while.

Since I use my cell phone for business too, I would hate to have to keep changing my number.

Why would anyone list their phone number anyway? I don't get it. I would never list my phone number online no matter what the site. There is nothing private online. I think people should take precaution on any online service.

It doesn't bother me as I never put my mobile number on facebook to begin with since I didn't find it necessary for them to know my phone number. However, I do find it quite useful, because my sister rang me earlier and while I don't have her number stored on my phone, my phone is linked up to facebook (I have a HTC Desire smartphone) so her facebook photo showed up as the call came through.

Hi,
No, I have not noticed it yet. Might be because we have not done our privacy settings. Personally I do not bother even if they are posted. It would rather be a nice thing to receive phone calls from friends and foes and this is up to you to respond or not to respond.
Are there other threats? If it is just let me know.
thanks for the info.

Just a quick question. Why would you write your phone number in your profile information if you want it as something private? Doesn't make sense to me
