Eating more when it's cold?

I don't know about you but I eat the same if it's summertime and 100 degrees or freezing cold. Lots of people say they eat less when it's hot...I wish I was one of them. I don't even change my eating habits. Foods like Salads, Fruits and Sandwiches are supposed to be Summer Food. Chili, Stews and hearty Dishes are more for the cold. Do you change your eating habits when the weather changes?

I actually eat less in the winter. I don't know why because most people gain weight in the winter and loose it in the summer. Not me..lol..I am oppisite. I think it is because I am happier in the summer. I do eat more grilled food in the summer than in the winter though.

I do seem to eat more in the winter time and to prove it.. I always gain alot of weight in the cooler/winter months..with all the soups stews and chili and other hot meals..while in summer I eat alot more fruits, salads, yogurts, turkey/other sandwiches something that is light and I don't have to cook to heat up this oven I call home...but do have to cook for hubs a big meal or he complains he hasn't had a hot meal in a few days..but if I can get away with something simple I do..thank god for crockpots..lol..

It sure heats up the kitchen with all that cooking but I love to cook and i like my hot meals. I'm not a big salad-fruit person...I should eat more of both though.

Hi missy, Certainly I would not drink water from the refrigerator during winter season nor cold foods. Be it hot or cold the intake of food is almost the same for me but except the major food item like rice here vegetables are different. I mean the seasonal ones. I guess I tend to eat a bit more in cold days compared to the hot days in summer. Due to exhaustion and raising humidity appetite level seems to go down a wee bit. With a little difference it is almost same, what hot and what cold.

I think we do eat a lot more when it is cold for a simple reason. During that entire cold season, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's fall. So there is a lot of food to be had. So we tend to gain those extra pounds that we pay for after that period of time is. Plus on some level, an extra amount of weight keeps us warmer. I think in the summer, the humidity makes us less likely to eat. If we do, we eat lightly. Plus, carrying extra weight in the summertime can make us hot and rather uncomfortable. So we eat less when it is hot out and are more prone to be active. At least that is the way that I see things. While there are things like cookouts, we don't quite eat as much during those colder months.

That's the way it should be...eat less when it's hot and more cold foods. I just don't like eating salads and cold foods to much.

Normally our diet here at least in my home, doesn't not change much whatever season may it be (well, we have only two seasons..wet and dry)..hehe but I do eat less food during hot/humid seasons because I tend to take lots of fluid thereby filling my tummy. And the appetite also decreases when the weather is too hot. But during rainy seasons especially when power interruptions come in, I normally spend my time mulching..Usually snacks and finger foods, and take less liquids this time..

I'm just as hungry if it's cold or hot. I don't know why. It seems like I'm always hungry or just like to eat.

I think I eat the same amount.. hahaha but the difference is the kind of food. When it is cold like winter time, we usually have soup. I always made soup during winter time. During summer we drink a lot of juice compared to winter time. And our food is more of a dry food.. hehehe it is very different kind of food but the amount I eat are all the same.

Hi missy! I am not able to eat the same foods as I do in the cold weather as I do in the hot weather! I find it way too hot to cook and way to hot to eat the hot food!lol In fact, yesterday I sent the bf to the store to get some cold cuts and salads so I don't have to cook for a few day! He doesn't care about the temps either. He will eat anything, hot or cold, but not me! Tonight I will have a nice sandwich of cold cuts and potato salad! I save the stews and chili for my winter cooking!

I can eat hot food year around...it does get very hot in the kitchen during the summer but I just love eating. I'm not a big salad and veggie person. I know it's healthy and good for you but I could live without them

it depends to the kind of food. if its my favorite or if its a good food then i can eat a lot whether its summer or not. though i know why people tend to eat less during summer as its already hot and if you eat a lot you need a lot of energy to burn those food inside your body so you will feel more hot as your body temperature will also arises than in cold weather. thats why its more recomemded to drink a lot of water than eat a lot. while in cold weather eating a lot will help them feel hot due to the part of their internal organ will work hard to burn those food inside and it will help add hot temperature.

Thanks for the info...some of it makes sense. I do try to drink lots of water even though I don't like the taste.

I believe everyone eats more at cold times because we need fat. I can't help to want soups and stuff that's why in this summer I'm already trained, if I can eat only soup in summer (wich is too hot to drink soups) I'm gonna do fine in winter when soup is never hot enough. And helps to not gain weight :D

Yes i change my eating habits with the change of the weather unless someone else is cooking, i find slaving over a hot stove puts me off eating stews & roast type meals.

Eating according to our climate helps maintain BASAL METABOLIC ACTIVITY, which actually determines the amount of calories spent by the body. Eating the right quantity of right food at the right time can help you stay Slim. Cheers :)

I've been dieting for quite a while now and lost 30 pounds but I still like to eat my pizza and french fries and anything that's fattening.
