Is it possible to learn violin online?

A friend of mine bought a violin waybackwhen and I borrowed some time ago because I wanted to learn. I was planning to enroll in classes during the summer but that didn't pan out as I'd hoped because the funds I saved for the lessons needed to be spent elsewhere. So now I have the time to learn but not the money, and I was wondering if there's a way to learn it online or something. Someone told me once (I forgot who now) that you really need an instructor for the violin because of... some reason I can't remember anymore - I think because you need someone else to hear whether the note is right or not? Anyway, are instructors really needed to learn this instrument? Or is it possible to learn by yourself if you have the resources? Any help would be appreciated! Thanks for your time.

Whoa, really? 2-3 weeks is enough time to familiarize yourself with the instrument enough to play it? That's awesome dedication. I learned guitar via internet (and those song magazines where they have guitar notes you can follow, haha) but it took far, far more time than 2-3 weeks. I'm looking forward to trying it then. I asked because a friend mentioned that violin (and its family of string instruments) needed someone who knew how they sound - or something to that effect - in order to correct if you're playing right or wrong. I've actually started looking through the net for tutorials and have practiced the chords. I need to tune the instrument first though, haha. Hopefully I'll be able to do it soon. Thanks for the reply! Hope I can learn it as easy as you said. :D

i guess, when you can play a guitar well, youcan learn to play violin faster. because guitar and violin is almost the same like badminton and tennis. i think you can lern it online. there is nothing tha you can not learn by your self if you have a strong willness

why not? its all depends upon the ability of the person who learns it. you can learn easily moreover you can create new music as you do not follow any specific teacher's instructions. you r the trainer of yourself and you r the audience of yourself. practice it and become a professional. best wishes.

Instruments like guitar, bass or even piano are fairily easy to learn through internet. Violin is much more complicated, though. It doesn't have any frets and you have to have good hearing to get the right pitch. Learning it online would be very-very difficult (even learning with an instructor is). Now, if you really want to learn to play this instrument, and are ready to put a lot of effort in it, then it might be possible. I don't want to discourage you, but it's very unlikely you'll learn it in the end, though. You might injure your hands, too, if you don't use right positions etc. A person who knows how to play can point out your mistakes and give you good advice. Maybe you know somebody who know how to play violin? You should ask them, maybe they could show you how to play and teach you a little so it would be easier for you to learn by yourself later. Or maybe find someone online who would be willing to watch how you play (record yourself playing, for instance) and give advice. I've learned instruments both by myself and 7 years in music school. Having an instructor makes it SO much easier. I wish you luck though! Go for it if you really want to do it.
