Do you eat more or less in hot weather?

I have noticed since we have had a few days of really hot and humid weather I have not been as inclined to nibble. I have been trying to drink more fluids and keep up with things rather than sit glued infront of the a/c watching movies w/ the family or mylotting. Wich is good, I need to quit slacking and enjoy the temps while we have them it'll be -30 & January before I know it! *LOL*

I drink lots of water all day. Always have a bottle of water with me or several in fridge. However when it comes to eating then I can go overboard as I am an emotional eater. However I have maintained my 25 lb weight loss and I am proud of this but need to set a goal for losing another ten pounds NOW

congrats! I hope you keep it up and get to your next goal of another 10lbs. I have a different problem I'm a bordom eater.... origionally it was emotional now I just eat when I'm bored and I don't always realize I'm doing it as my kids are nibbling all day long.

Thanks you. I may have to lose a bit more as I want to drop another dress size before my only daughter gets married next year.
I read somewhere - if could have been on Mylot- that you should always divide snack's for children into two small ziplock bags. Give them one at a time and one is usually enough as they tend to leave half eaten bags all over the place. I told my DIL to do this as she is here with my grand twins living with me for the summer and she says that she has cut down on the amount of money spent on snacks. It really does work. You may want to try it.

especially eating fruits that satisfy thirst.

I agree fruit is another alternative to satisfy the thirsts of ones body in summer temps.

Doesn't everyone! Well everyone who has weight to loose Though being broke right now is helping in that way you have to stretch what you have but you know it would be nice if the kids would understand they can't split and eat a whole jar of pickles ect in one day.

When it is really warm I eat less, less food but more ice-cream :-) I've been visiting a friend for a week now, it's been really hot (at least compared to home) so we've eaten lots of salad with olives (for the salt), the occational ice-cream and not really much else during the day. We've usually had some dinner late in the evening, but cooking hasn't been very tempting and the restaurants are quite warm too. Finland's not really made for coping with the heat :-)

I imagine it's cooler there than it is here. Here in WI we get the best of both worlds temps from as cold as -40 to 110 depending on the season. I'm not too fond of extreme heat or extreme cold but I suppose that's the joys of 4 seasons.

We can get that cold but not real often in winter.... typically it stays in the teens in winter. That's still bone chilling!
I'd imagine it was quite a climate shock on ones body with not much time to adapt to a cool climate in such a short time period.

I find with the heat wave we are having that food really does not appeal to me. About the only thing I want to eat is fruit and ice cream. I also drink a lot of water.

Less, I think it's because all the liquids I drink fill my stomach.

Yes , i feel the same way and the more you drink in hot weather the less dehydraded you feel. Also you feel cooler after dring a cold drink and you throat won't be as hot.

I definitely eat less in warm weather. I read that people eat more in the winter to supplement the loss of warmth. My theory is that I just like food. I just don't feel much like eating when it is really hot. My stomach is sensitive to the heat anyway. I've gotten heat headaches, but also "heat stomach aches". Like you though, I drink more often in the summer. I seem to guzzle water.

Very good points! I like a nice hot meal in winter and those are usually high calorie comfort foods.... probably like many it warms you from the inside out. Plus who wants to drink alot of cold water when there's snow on the ground? Not I.

Sadly my appetite does not fluctuate based on weather. It does fluctuate though.. I go through spurts where I'm constantly hungry, then I go through spurts where I eat like an anorexic because I just can't eat more than that. I've always been that way. But as I said, it's not based on weather.. I can still eat like a pig in 100 degree heat, lol.

I'm usually not interested in eating much in summer at all. Though fruit is another story but fruit isn't really filling IMO. I'm sure it varies by the person.

Weather can change your eating habits and your appetite. I tend to eat less in the hot weather. I think I drink a lot more in the summer months. Winter time seems to bring on stronger eating urges for me. I guess in the end, it all balances out.

Yes it does balance out but to me that balance is gaining weight in winter & spending all summer trying to burn it off

when it is hot,i just liked to drink a lot,but when it comes to foods,i always wanted those with soups whether it's hot or cold.actually.i'm not picky when it comes to foods.i just wanted to eat more if i feel sad/bad or feeling down and upset.also when i am angry,i want to eat something cold.to make my head a little warm of course, haha!
i loved eating specially when the food is delicious but if not,i get lazy eating or if i'm the one to prepare the food,i just prefer not eating at all,for some reason i felt lazy preparing food, but if i have no choice,i have to cook for me to have something to eat,of course.

You sound like an emotional eater to an extent as well. My Mother taught me to drown my woes in food, sadly.... it was all too much and that was "normal" to me in my house KWIM?
Yep if you are the only one @ your home, you don't have much choice in cooking for yourself unless you buy frozen entree's or go out to a restaurant for your meals.

I don't really eat that much too in summer.I just keep drinking a lot of any kind of liquid.Unlike winter time where I gain weight especially during the Christmas holidays.Summer for me though is a busy and adventurous season, I'm always out with my family or friends. If I'm alone, I just pick up my back pack and do my own travels.

Sounds familiar.... I spend all spring & summer occupied doing things outside. In winter, I hide out inside and winter is the time for heavy comfort foods that are very filling = weight gain for me. Sometimes I think I need to move down south so we can be active more in the "winter".

I do actually eat less on hot weather. Compared to cold ones when I eat a lot. On hot weathers I eat less but drink more which is the opposite thing I do on cold weather.

That's why I think most of us who do get winters gain in the winter months and spend all summer loosing the winter weight. Who doesn't want a hot meal in winter to warm you from the inside?

i think i eat more during hot days because i usually buy slurpee to cool me down.

A slurpee is a drink though not a meal. Or do you just tend to eat when you have a slurpee?

hi 3snugglebunnies oh yes I find that some really starchy heavy foods
just do not sit well on my tummy when its hot and sticky like it has'been
and besides I am trying to lose weight which is hard as I do not get any exercise, and I cannot walk easily like I could before my orthopedic shoes with the left brace got so worn out. I am also diabetic so that cutting back on carbs and getting more veggies and fruit help immensely in controlling my blood sugar. Today it was just in the 80ies so thats
much more pleasant. Maybe by cutting down on hot stody foods we can lose weight. lol

I have a really hard time wanting to cook and eat in the summer. I just don't have the energy to do either it seems. I could be perfectly content just nibbling a little something here and there throughout the day when it's really hot outside. However, I have to cook for the family so I cook anyway buy try to make easier things in the summer.

Since it's gotten warm outside, I definitely see that I eat far, far less than I tend to eat when it is cold outside. The reason for this, I think is because my core temperature is higher during the warm months of the year and for me, that makes me feel bloated no matter what I do. So, I tend to eat very light meals during the summer. Even better is when I am able to eat a meal that is both light and also cold.

I never eat as much in the summer when it is really hot and humid. The heat and humidity just make me lose my appetite. My husband works outside year round and he eats MUCH less in the summer. It's hard for him to drink enough too, since he just sweats it right back out.

yeah i do eat less in hot humid wether as I drink more when it it hot.I just don't have the appitite during hot days and find that swiming or taking a dip in the pool really hits the spot and cools me off.I do try to eat some but as for having a large meal it just does not sit well in my stomach with the temperature being as hot as it is in the summer time.

Normally, i don't eat as often but eat more wrong things like takeaways as its far too hot to stand and do anything..haha..
I'm normally quite good with watching what we eat(not completely an@l about it) but in this weather i don't care and have had takeout 3 times this week so far ( and that includes sneaky mcd for lunch)
haha
