For me I love to hear somebody calling me my Nickname. Some of my friends wants to be called by their First Name but here in our hotel guest want to be called by their Family Name. I think we have different opinion about this. Kindly share it. I am thankful to know all your comments.

Sometimes I feel offended when people call me by my last name. Then I look at whoever was calling me and I realize that it is but natural for his or her culture to call other people by their last names. I guess for them it shows respect. Unfortunately, I don't feel the same.
If somebody is calling me, I would rather they call using my first name. If it was formal, then a "Mr." in front would be appropriate.

I love it when somebody calls me by my nickname. It is sweet to the ears and kind of personal.

I've always thought last name was a little impersonal and you should only get called that if the person is either a)your coach or b)your teacher. First name is usually the best option to go with unless you are a kid talking to a adult the you just add the mr./mrs. to their last name. I think most people like getting called by a nick name as long as its not offensive, I know i like my nicknames better. Except for a couple family nick names like goomba-bear or pookie. I honestly have no idea where those came from.

for me it all depends on the situation and the people...
if it is in a formal setting - in meetings, meeting with company guests..
then surely i would like be called (addressed) formally..
but if it was just in the office, amongst your normal officemates,
or outside, at parties or at home with your family and freinds..
then of course, i dont mind being called by my first name or nickname..

i prefer people calling me with my nickname. No personal reason though, but it just sounds so familiar to hear lol. But I don't have problems too if they calling me my first or last name, just don't cut from it the wrong way lol.
like for example, my nickname is Shalli. Mom gave me that from my first name Shallia. but, it'll sounds bad if people calling me with Lia lol..that's really su*k looool...
nice topic btw ;)

Hi July,
I prefer to be called by my nickname. Whenever they call me by my first name, they make me feel like they're my mom or dad who calls me by my first name when they're mad at me. LOL. After all, on a personal note, calling you by your nickname becomes personal and it breaks the barrier of being too professional and civil to something much friendly but not overstepping your boundary.
Cheers!
Honey

Hi
I prefer my nickname.
In school, when I was in college , we use to call each other by family name. That is because our professors do so.
When I started working, my officemates calls me by my nickname.
Regards

It depends actually on who is calling you. For my friends I term to used my nickname in addressing me, my family is used to my pet name, my mentors calls me by my first name and some others call me by my surname, cause my surname is not a popular Filipino surname.

calling a person by last name sounds formal, while others approach me and call me by my last name, some call me by my first name, my family call me by my nickname. But, i dont want other people apart from my family call me by my nickname as its too awkward for me to hear it. i used to hear it from my family only. If others, i would prefer them calling my short name rather than real name, short like "ron" than "ron blah blah blah"

hijulyteen I like to be called Mrs. Hatley as I so dislike my first name Patsie, and Mrs. Hatley is okay unless its a close friend or relative and I then like Patsie. I do not have any nickname save one and nobody better ever call me by that as that was my husbands nickname for me and will always be as he has been gone for many years.PattyTricia, as he knew Ihated Patsie and wished I had been named Patricia instead. that was his and his alone.

Hi,
I do not like If people are calling me with my last name, because It sound very stupid. I do not have any problems If people are calling me in my name. They can call me in my nickname too, but my friends always think me so much nicknames and some of them I hate. I do not have problems If someone would call me in myLot with some nicknames I think It would be nice. But, people can call me for ET too. We are diffrent some like If people call them in nicknames some like If they are called in name etc.

i prefer to be called by my first name. but actually, my preference depends on the people i am with. i got two given names and i choose which one they will call me. for example, my former classmates call me by my first given name, my co-workers call me by my 2nd given name so i can identify people easily whenever we don't see each other for a long time. =)

People who call me by my names:
Family Name - Mainly for doctors and hospitals etc. Mainly in formal situations.
First Name - Literally everybody I know, from close friends, to people I've just met.
Nickname - Don't particularly want one.

I prefer to be called by my nickname...:D A lot of people mispronounce my real name and it seems they really have a hard time. I don't wanna trouble other people. To be called by my last name is also okey with me...:DDDD
