When people don't believe your age

I started a new job this week, and as expected almost half of my co-workers are fresh graduates or are in their early twenties. What I like about my new job is that during the orientation and getting to know you stage, our ages were left out. So it was only during our lunches that we would get to exchange personal information about each other. I am amazed because my co-workers assumed that I am near their age and they don't believe me when I tell them that I am in my mid thirties. I even had to give my Social Security ID so that they would believe me. They thought I was just in my twenties, which was kinda sweet.
Has this happened to you? Are people amazed that you don't look your age?

My beauty secret is actually no make-up, not even powder. I leave my skin as is, so it is not abused with heavy chemicals. Plus sleep. That's why I was amazed that my co-workers thought I was in my mid twenties because I don't really take care of my skin unlike most women do. Thank you for your response!

I don't believe in such products. The soap that I use right now is glycerine soap with no fragrance. I am a freak, I know. My skin just can't tolerate such products.

how about Papaya related soap? i used to use Likas Papaya then but times where tough and i couldn't afford it anymore. but i stay away from the sun after taking the whitening Papaya soap. i guess being single keeps you from getting really old.

Hello there anne! I,too encounter such a situation, and of course it brings such a pleasant feeling. Usually, communication begins by asking whether one is married or not. Then it goes to the number of kids that one has. Once I give my answer, they would naturally ask. "did you get married at a very young age?" ha!ha!ha! cheers!

Yes, the questions! I even answered one guy that I was old enough to be his mother and got a very weird look. So I had to produce my ID to prove my age. Thank you for your response!

Same goes with me! My colleagues before thought I am around the 20's when I'm actually in my mid thirties. I guess this is due to a happy attitude about life and being myself that greatly slows down the aging process.

Yes, a happy attitude shows inside and out. I think I also shed some lines off my face after my break up and I am able to get my life back. Thank you for your response!

Thank you for your response JB. Unfortunately here in my country, when you are around my age and unmarried you will get a lot of weird looks as if you have an extra head or something. But I really don't look my age, I have compared my picture with my high school classmates' pictures and I can see the difference.

Hello Anne,
I don't know if they mean it, but some of my relatives think that I am too young for my age, like a highschool or college student. but to some am like old already, i am not sure which is true of what they say. but the thing there is that i don't feel the same age as it was before, i look at my face everyday and it really seemed changing.

I do think it depends on the person looking at you. But I am not talking about two or three people, but a group. So I don't know if they are just kidding, but if they are, it is a sweet joke. Thank you for your response!

ahh, yes i have been experiencing that a lot back then and also in this current year. When i was still a little girl the grown ups always mistake me of being a 10 yr old girl but actually my age is around 7 yrs old until i got to the age of thirteen they still get themselves mistaken by may age by being 3 yrs older than my actual age. Then now that i have reached the age of thirties they still do but the only difference is that the age range got lower, now they think i'm in the twenties. .

Growing up, people always thought I was older than I really was. I remember ordering from the kid's menu at a restaurant when I was 8 years old. The waitress refused to let me, claiming I was lying, and not 12 or under (the age one can order off the kiddie menu). My dad got so angry because she was accusing us of lying. Once, on a school field trip when I was twelve, the lady at the museum came up to me and started talking to me about the tour. I had no idea why. As she kept talking, I realized she thought I was the teacher! At 12, I was already 5'11, and I looked a lot older. People always thought I was in college. Now, I'm 29, and people think I'm in my early twenties. Apparently, I don't age. lol

It happens all the time to me. People can't believe that I'm in my fiftys. They think maybe thirtysomething. When they see my two grown daughters one being 29 and the other 32 they are in shock. I love it because it tells me I have good genes and that I'm taking care of myself. I'm one who never lies about my age because I don't look it and I love that.

You must look like an older sister. I love the look on people's faces as if I'm pulling a joke on them when I say my age. Thank you for your response!

It definitely happen to me alot, and I really feel happy about it. Because I look younger than my actual age. So, sometimes people mistaken my age with others. I felt extremely happy about it.

Hi Anne,
Yes, absolutely, people have always thought I am younger than I am. I have always looked younger which was a positive thing most of the time. It is especially nice now when I am in my 60's. A new doctor I went to about a year ago said he couldn't believe I was in my 60's. That was really nice because a doctor is used to telling people's age.
It is fun to look younger. I certainly wouldn't want it the other way around as it is for a lot of people. I remember how shocked I was when I met a high school friend about 15 years ago and she looked sooo old!! I was really surprised at how much older than me she looked even though I knew she was the same age. It was kind of scary really. I don't know what she had been through in her life, but my guess is that she hadn't had an easy life at all.
Enjoy looking younger!! It's fun.

It is fun to look younger and I really like to make people guess my age. Its very rare that people get to guess it right. Thank you for your response!

Yes, it happened to me. But I think those people who told that to me would only mean that just to make me feel good and not because I do not really look my age. I sometimes get mistaken to be younger than my real age. I think that those people are just being nice. I feel good hearing that from them, but most of the time I don't really believe it. I just appreciate people being nice to me.

As expected happens to me a lot. They are amaze that my actual age was not appropriate with my look they said that i was just only 22 to 25 or something. I am very much flattered with the parents i was with at school and amaze at the same time for how I have done so far in spite of problems. And when they see my daughter they said that shes just only my younger sister and they don't believe it.

It happens to me all the time. I have had several interviewers who would do a double take when they look at my year of birth and my face. Most of the time its flattering but I have had a lot of client underestimate my abilities just because they think I just graduated from school. I have had officemates who would give me tips on working assuming that that was my first job. It was not funny however when I was passed over for promotion because I was too young for the position when I was actually ten years older than the requirement.
