Personally, i love garage sales! i love going to them, and i enjoy having them as well. It takes a lot of setting up to get one started, but so far i think i've done pretty well with my garage sles. I had one in june and one in july and i made a total of $400 for the two sales. For me, that's a pretty good amount of money considering i old a bunch of stuff i didn't need or haven't used in a while anyway. So for me, garage sales are worth the time and effort, as long as you make your goal amount. Mine was $100 per sale, and i beat my goal each time!

I knew a woman who's garage was a continuous garage sale. I would love to do this if I had a place to store what I was going to sell in the mean time. I sell and get rid of stuff on a regular basis. When I get a call from (put fundrasing org. here) are having a truck coming through my neighborhood next week I will gladly put out a couple of boxes or bags. I like the tax deduction, no work involved method myself.

We had a neighbor who had a garage sale daily for weeks. I am not sure how well she did though, because i don't think many people would stop by on the week days. And i believe if she had really good stuff everything good would be sold within your first couple of days. As far as donating items, i used to do that all the time. It was an easy way to clear out my old thing so as not to have my house cluttered. But, once i had my first sale, i was hooked. I love the extra money i make.

Hello Kainalu. We don't have garage sales where I live but we have car boot sales. People set up little stalls to sell their unwanted household stuff or just sell straight from the car boot. My friend does them regularly, she sells anything and even looks in charity shops for stuff to sell and she always seems to make a good profit...above all she likes doing it and who wouldn't enjoy making a profit from a hobby?

wow! a car boot sale? i have never heard of that, but it does really sound like a great idea. How does your friend go about doing a car boot sale? Does everyone park their cars in one particular location? Sounds pretty interesting. where do you live? i bet car boot sales would do pretty well in my area as well. I would love to learn more about them.

Yes, I believe garage sales are worth the effort that you put into them. I plan on having one in two weeks and my goal is to earn at least $200.00. I don't have a lot of big ticket items, so it will be close! And besides, I am home anyways, so I will be using my time wisely.

Yes, if you can have it in your own home or garage it really is worth the time. unfortunately for me, i live in an area with a very low population so i have to take my things to my grandfathers house the next town over which is much better for holding garage sales. So it takes me extra time in lugging all my items over and setting it all up. I think i would do it more often if i could just set it up at my home.

Hi kainalu,
Yes, I think garage sales are worthwhile events. I live in a gated community which allow a once a year huge community garage sell, I wish we could do it more times than that, but I will take what I can get.
We have Saturday and Sunday, the first week in November. I have lots of good items that I would rather make a few dollar on than to give them to goodwill. However, if thing are left over I will donate. My financial situation is not the greatest and I need every penny I can get. So, having a garage sell is a great tax-free way to make a few hundred dollars in one weekend.

I personally do not like to visit garage sales, funny thing though when I had my house I did a few of them and they were quite profitable. It is amazing how what we think is unwanted junk becomes someone else treasures.
My very first one I made $650 the very first day and I was so very excited as the items I sold I was planning on being rid of them anyways.
So I think a garage sale is a wonderful idea for anyone to do for extra money, it certainly earns and clearing of unwanted items.

As a kid I disliked them because you had to wake up early and sometimes mom would put up a toy I hadn't played with in years but as soon as it was gone I would miss it.

It's funny you should say that. My daughter is three and she was there at my last sale. She hated seeing all her old things placed up for sale. She wanted to keep everything, even things she hadn't played with in a long time. She even cried and made a huge fuss over some little toys that a little boy had just bought. I guess it is hard for kids to see their toys go.

My mom used to be in the garage sale business she would go out to other yard sales buy stuff up real cheap and then resell it, of course some of the laws have changed now, and make it so that a garage sale can only last up to 3 days, and can only be for 1 weekend a month, I guess that the States didn't like losing money from taxes.
But to me a garage sale even once a year is worth it, that way you can get rid of what you don't want, yet make cash from it, otherwise you would be just putting it in the trash, and make no cash.

Oh yes, I love them, even though they don't have them where I live, but I have seen them abroad. I definitely think they are great for seller and buyer alike!

I don't know what a garage sale is, but in England we have car boot sales, which are held all over the country mainly in farmers fields. The farmer charges each car booter so much for a space to put the stuff they want to sell, most put there items on a wall paper table. Some car boots are huge with hundreds of stalls selling everything. I have not sold at a car boot but often been to have a look & to find a bargain.

I like them but I wouldn't set one up unless I had absolutely salable stuff that people were willing to spend money on. Garage sales can be great if you sell stuff on ebay. Sometimes you can pick up great and eve rare items for which there is a demand on auction sites.

Hi Kainalu55, I also love going to garage sales but haven't tried it before myself.
But I believe that it is really worth the time and effort to organize a garage sale not only because of the extra money you'll get from it but you also get rid of the clutter/unused items and free up some storage spaces. ^_^
