Food in the toilet?

Yesterday I saw this lone apple sitting on the basin with someone inside the cubicle "doing her business"... I was thinking, isn't this gross? She might be thinking after she washes her hands, she can wash her apple as well and thus save herself a trip to the tap.
We all know that toilets contain a lot of germs, so would you bring your food into the toilet? Even if it's wrapped up (not air-tight)?

Hiya bluemoon,
I never would do this either. Toilet Basins are loaded with germs nasty nasty germs so I would never entertain the idea of having food that I was going to eat in a Toilet Room. When they pull the chain if the lid is up loads of bacteria go everywhere too all over the Room itself so just imagine. It´s because we can´t see them but they are there. How awful.

Hiya bluemoon,
Yes I do share those feelings. We used to take Food to eat at Work but we never ever took it to the Toilet with us not one of us. I cannot remember anyone who would have done this as we all thought the same that the Toilet was for other purposes. We were all very clean too and washing our hands after always. We had lots of space to eat our Food but never in there.

Well, it's good to hear that you are far far away from the germs, keep yourselves healthy!

Seems like you share the common sentiments with almost everybody else here...
Thinking of eating in the toilet is quite revolting....

We should not take food in the toilet because around and inside the toilet there will be lot of unseen germs and it is really dangerous to our health . We may get affected at any time and it very difficult to cure. There is a saying prevestion
is better than cure .

Imagine all those germs and whatnots floating around waiting for something to land on, and there's this juicy apple sitting innocently there....

That is really gross especially if you are bringing food in the public toilet. Maybe if it is in your home, if the toilet or bathroom is really nice and clean? why not? just an apple anyway? hehehe but in fairness, here in US? almost all the public rest rooms that I have been to? they are all clean and with hand soap and sometimes lotion. But even then, I will not bring food in the Public rest rooms. Maybe in my own bathroom I can do that. hahaha

Maybe we feel safer if it's our own toilets because we can guarantee the cleanliness of that, but for public toilets, they might be equipped with soap and nice lotion, it's very hard to convince ourselves that it's very hygienic inside there.

I disagree, not all toilet are infested by germs... It depends on who's using, I spent hours in our toilet doing that business while reading books and that's while eating sandwiches or cookies in between hahaha.
It's my favorite hobby, try it your self, lol!

I think it's quite common for people to do that. I myself used to bring books and newspapers in, but I still think it's not so hygienic. As for food.....you really do eat in the toilet while doing "business"?!?

It sounds gross but I also know one household, one of friends' house, they have candies and biscuits in their toilet. I also find it weird but its already natural for them. Anyway, no matter how natural it may seem to them, I am never gonna put food in our toilet.

I suppose they like to occupy themselves while going to the toilet. Why waste time when you can do input and output at the same time...

Absolutely not. Not even in my own bathroom let alone a public toilet. Gross

Okay I had this whole lengthy discussion I was going to post but after reading yours it went right out the window.
Oh my Goodness I have never thought about it that way, as a matter of fact I am removing my toothbrush from it's current location.
Getting back to the discussion it is super disgusting is all I can say as I am still stuck on my toothbrush issue. but laughing at the same time.

No i don't like the idea of taking my food to the toilet at all. Bathrooms are a breeding ground for germs, and a public toilet is the worst! You don't know how clean the people before you have been! Yuck i ouldn't eat an apple despite washing it! lol
I think food is best left out the bathroom.

"Bathrooms are a breeding ground for germs" -- how horrible when we think about how these germs get out of there, and then spread to everywhere...

Yes that is super unhealthy, and it seems this was a public facility? Wow so many go in and out of those, I would loose my appetite after going in even if it were my food. If anything keep it in a bag and take the bag in with you but not exposed???

Yes it was a public toilet for our company's use.
For me, food wrapped up is still acceptable but definitely not if it's exposed to the air.

this is disgusting!
foods are not allowed inside toilet.
well,i guess if it's inside your bag and you're in a public toilet that should be wrapped around that germs won't get into it.but having it exposed in there and place it in a basin while you are doing your business inside the toilet, that sounds and looks disgusting.i think there's lots of germs over it before you eat it,and even you wash it,still you might add those germs within, really yucky!

yeah,i also felt weird if i would be drinking from that toilet mug!
there are times that we have to be in a public comfort rooms with our bags with ourselves.what will you do if you have packed lunch inside your bag?does it feel disgusting?there's nothing we can do,unless you have someone with you to hold your bag, right?

I guess if there's really no choice, and the food is not exposed, I can still accept it. Otherwise I may really ask someone outside for help.

Even if the food is all wrapped up, just the idea of it gives people some feelings of aversion, not to mention using the mug you uploaded...I would find it weird to drink from that...

I work in pathology and growing up bacteria is part of my job...its amazing how small of an amount can cause a stomach upset. Taking food into the toilet is bad hygiene practice and should be avoided at all costs.

Hi wilsonbeca,
You could have a better immune system than the rest of us since you have constant contact with bacteria. I suppose it is common knowledge that food shouldn't be brought into toilets but somehow there are odd occurrences here and there sometimes.

This is actually a health hazard. I would never take this risk. You just don't do this type of thing. Do your business and then go to the kitchen for your food.

If only everybody observes a strict level of hygiene, then there may be less diseases going around in this world.

I havent seen that. But as much as possible I will not do that, but eating in a clean toilet is possible if it is the only available place to do it. Those canteen helpers, hotel workers, gym workers usually do that but not while doing their toilet business. For that one he knows what is clean and not.

Now that you mentioned it, there seem to be a great number of people who do that or who got no choice but possibly they could have used one clean corner and not go near the source of the dirt and germs.

Hi. bluemoonpavilion. I would never bring any kind of food into the bathroom with me at all. That is so nasty! She should consider this apple to be dirty and full of germs. She should just throw it away too because it is no longer eatable. If she decides to eat it, she will have a stomach full of germs.

Honestly, I have done that when I was still a child, I was such a greedy child that i don't want to share my chips to anyone even my sister. But, I have to admit that our toilet is clean and I did not touch anything. I know its gross but who cares, I was still a child then

You can be forgiven for doing that when you are young
I think it's quite a valid reaction for wanting to have all the chips to yourself.

of course I will not bring my food in the toilet. You could imagine how dirty it is.
millions of bacteria are present in that area thats why we should avoid bringing our food in the toilet. After using the toilet we should not forget to wash our hands thoroughly using a germicidal soap to remove those germs completely

Thanks for the hygienic suggestion. There have been a lot of diseases passed around just because people did not wash hands carefully, especially after using the toilet.
