I think it is an excellent idea. I cannot swim, although I wish I could. I would recommend you learn as well as myself, especially after what happened recently a couple of states away from me. In Louisiana this week, 6 teenagers were killed when they drowned in a river. Two big families, totally over 20 people including adults and children, were out to BBQ together at a lake they had been to many times before. Seven teenagers, ranging from the age of 13 to 18, were in the shallow part of the lake. One of them suddenly stepped off into a deep part, not realizing where the shallow ledge dropped off. As he got pulled away in the deep water, the six other teens tried to save him. NONE of them could swim. The six teenagers who tried to help drowned. They drowned in view of their families, because none of THEM could swim either. The teen who initally fell in was rescued by a bystander.
None of the people there could swim. It was so preventable. Had they been wearing life jackets or knew how to swim, it wouldn't have happened. The river wasn't overpowering, they just couldn't swim. Three of the deceased were brothers, while the other three were two brothers and their sister. Can you imagine those parents, how they lost so many of their children at once?

i'm very sorry to hear about this news, it is really depressing...as a stranger, i even can't bear this kind of sadness, how can their parents? it is really sorrowful. if one of them can swim, things will not be like this. it seems that i must to learn to swim, not just for myself, but also for preventing those unexpected things happening...thank you ambiepam!

Yes, and it's a smart idea to learn swimming from the experts. It's better to be safe than sorry, right? You can use that skills not only in leisure time but also in emergency cases. I am not a good swimmer and i want to try water sports also but i am not that confident because i know my capacity when it comes to swimming( I have a short breath and afraid to drown my head, i have fears).

I know how to swim. But I can't say I swim very well. I can't swim for a long distant because I feel tired and perhaps I don't master a good way to take a breath when I am swimming. Learning to swim in a swimming class is a good idea. At least the coach will teach you the best and standard way to swim. Currently my son is having the swimming class everyday.
I love China

YES! That is the GREAT GREAT idea so that you won't be that bored and you'd be more confident in terms of swimming. Other than that of course you won't be afraid of water especially if that is deep. Aside from that you can do any variations in swimming especially when it comes to proper strokes.
