I was kind of surprised when I saw it aired last night on the news. 63k php.
Then I thought of GMA and the previous presidents. I know they are getting a lot from corruption but I know PNoy is up to something.
He's also becoming like Kris Aquino - like starting to make his life an open book or soemthing. But I appreciate it because at least we know, the people here in Philippines who pays taxes, will have an idea of what the life or the funds of the President.
So what's your say about this my fellow mylotters? I am sure you have a lot in mind.
Let's hear it. =)

The salary of the President is not seem worth of the many problems he has to solve and many duties he has to perform. Can you imagine how many private executives are earning even more than a President? Why then would many people aspire to become President of the Philippines? Remember the last election. There were so many Presidential candidates and surely they were not after the salary.
Well, I am getting out of topic so I had to go back. I thin P-noy is a popular President so every thing pertaining to him is a hot news material and knowing that he has from the start declared he will not steal then it is good to let the public know that P-Noy got his first hard-earned salary. I just don't know if P-Noy will remain happy with this amount all throughout his term.

He has been paid LESS than that during his seat in the congress and senate. How can any of them (congressmen and senators) manage that without corrupting? Considering their lyfestyles, impossible.

He was already born in a silver spoon so he doesn't need to be corrupt just to suit his lifestyle. That would be his major challenge on how to make Philippines a corruption free country which is really impossible but then at least there is a real effort to stop it.

What the president did is just right because he is a public official and a public servant and the people has the right to know what's happening with his activities especially if it concerned with the budget, the money and all. Public office is a public trust and Noynoy just want to be transparent and inform the people with all his activities because GOVERNMENT is people, it is not only a system and a structure but it is composed of people and the society, so what he did is to be transparent to the public. We must know where the money goes, it is not that he wanted to become a superstar. It is also unfair to compare him to Kris, since his sister is a showbiz personality and must be treated differently. Noynoy is quite reserve and conservative compared to Kris, so please treat them differently.

Hello totally - pretty - undecided..
how come this wasn't reported during the Arroyo administration, or either i forgot or missed it since it was years ago.
regarding to becoming like her, i believe the issues of Pnoy's past is still only the tip of the ice berg. both ABS and Inquirer are so much support him that they neglect important news like cheating, his response to not participating debates again, going off against he called bias moderator tony lopez and more..
not to mention old people from the Customs department said he had records of smuggled cars, and he was noted as "so young, yet so corrupt". no one dare opened this issue because the most popular media are on his side..
He's a public figure, it's normal. unless he becomes like Kris in personality, that's something different. and awkward looking

Wow. I'm surprised that many people didn't know how much a president earns. So that's why he won, from the innocence of the Filipino people.

Everyone knows how much the presidents salary is. So what did he do?Showed his check? That's not my idea of an open book life. He should show us his bank accounts and properties not his paycheck. He is still trying to impress the Filipino people by pretending to be like them. As someone who is underpaid. Did you see a report on GMA network during the campaign period featuring Noynoy? It showed his properties and he is far from being underpaid. The reporter even questioned his MULTI-MILLION valued car which he intentionally did not use for the campaign period. For what purpose? To fool us into believing that he is not rich. And he is still doing it now.

I missed that one (documentary) but I love how you are pointing this out. You smelled something fishy, too. LOL. Like me.
But I was still surprised though of his actions. That he showed his check. A strategy or something to get people on his side. I wonder what he will do next.
I only got to know the President's salary during one of the reports in ABS. When they showed the salaries from a Brgy Captain to mayors to senator and then the president.
But I get what Letran said. Letran or RS, i forgot, about ABS being bias to Noy. But let's see. I know it's not just you or me who's on the watch.
Thanks, damned. :D

well at least he got those cars without being corrupt ,right? its his right too not to use it during the election.you can't drive around manila campaigning using your luxurious car. if he does that people would say he is flaunting his assets and if he opted not to use it people would find ways to bring him down. the best way for us to do is to move on. Accept the fact that our bet for presidency wasn't favor by the masses. All we can do is to support him to make this country a prosperous one.

Yeah I agree with Letran too (I wonder why he isn't commenting yet?) about ABS. @mevidalady How can you be so sure that he didn't corrupt? Although I'm not sure too, I think he isn't corrupting too because he doesn't know how. Come to think of it, maybe that is why he is so angry about corrupted officials!

I just don't feel something right (about the he's up to something, like he's trying to make himself good with the previous condemned presidents). I know it's his way of educating the masses but like what I have said to the previous post, I haven't warmed up to the idea yet.
I love the response of Salonga because he's telling it all what I have been wanting to say. Like he has a lot of things to do. I am not just good with words. Bear with me.
But I remain hopeful. I am not closing my faith in Aquino.

Now I get it. I am sorry, its not my intention to point out your choice of words. I just didn't understand it at first my apologies.
Aquino has really a lot to do. It is but natural to make yourself good as compared to your predecessors. But I guess he's way of making it look good is to divulge everything even if it includes his personal salary. In this context, it would be a good start but I wonder if he can sustain it.

You mean he's up to making him more likable than the previous president? He don't have to do that. Even without that paycheck, his approval rating have soared. And I think he don't have the charisma of Erap or Marcos or his father but he is much more likable than GMA without even trying to do so.
As for his life being an open book, it is already. Oh, Kris is Kris and she is not just an open book but an over exposed one that even her private/intimate affairs were dragged to limelight. And I think it is one good thing that P. Noy's public life will remain an open book specially now that he is the president. That way, anyone can see what is happening and that will make his government a real government of transparency. Much can be hidden behind darkness, right?
@totallyundecided (3190)

Very well said. I still think he's being safe with his being "transparent" that's why I could never feel his being "sincere".
On the contrary though, I am still thankful that he won because Erap could have taken the seat again. And Philippines will soon be in its ruins. LOL.
I know he's not perfect but I will remain hopeful that somehow, his step by step plans on making a progress on Philippines will be a success.
It's also good that most of us here aren't on his side. At least he will always be humbled that though his rating soared - he is still on the watch.
Some of the Filipinos might be dumb as it appears to most of us but we are all struggling not to be fooled by the new president's promises. Just like we did on the precious ones. =)
As for your opinion with Kris, I couldn't agree more. She doesn't like the idea that Noy has overtaken her popularity. Ahaha. That's why Pilipinas Win na Win is born. Talk about power tripping.

Too bad wasn't able to watch it last night. As a filipino citizen I am very interested to know how much the president is receiving as monthly salary. It is just but right for PNOY to unfold everything on national tv for the awareness of the people. I didn't vote for him during the election but since he won then am gonna support him all the way by being vigilant to my environment. Be able to pay my taxes on time. I would like to believe now that he can save philippines for being a corrupt country.

wow! Php 63k.. how come the past presidents became richer when they are inside the palace? well, we all know the answers.
good for Pnoy who makes it public. so me know what to expect. but maybe he belongs in corporation or/and maybe he has stocks right so he is a millionaire too.
and if the president's salary is just Php 63k. we must expect that lower office receives less.
now i wonder more than ever.

It's good the president's salary shown in the public, at least the general public will know how low the Philippine governments gives Her people in terms with salaries. It's definitely to low with his status as a President. There's one thing that I would like point out, If the President's salary is to low for him how much more for those who are in the rank and files, the Local Government employees's employees. You see its a domino effect, no wonder why people suffers too much because of this. I guess the president's salary should be increased for rank and file employees have their increase to. I hope so.

This topic is really heated up. Just before I post this message I have read all of what is posted here. So I will just go with the salary issue. there are lots of opinionated people out here so I will just have to be nice.
That is great to know the salary of a Philippine president. It takes a lot of courage to divulge such personal information to the public. But I am still thinking about the previous administration, if that is the only amount a president is having per month then why is it that GMA had all these properties if there really is no corruption from her governance. From what president PNoy did, we would all be aware that a president is only having only that kind of amount so if a future president has a lavish lifestyle then we would have a hint that there is corruption from his/her administration.

i didn't know that a president is only paid that much... how come the previous president end up with a lot of assets after her term was over..hmm...from corruption????
i'm not trying to be judgmental but i just can't hep but wonder... i think it is better that way with Pnoy..that we Filipinos are updated with what's the latest with him at least we can keep track of what he's been doing... unlike before... it's very hard to know what's going on...

government employees indeed are underpaid. As a matter of fact, their lowest salary when GMA hasn't issued yet the Salary Standardization Law last year was 3000, that's for utility position or salary grade I. that's why it's a good thing that they thought of raising the salary of government employees, though it would still take 4 years to finally take the whole increased salary (they did it in a staggered basis) and that the higher ranks would just be the one to get the most benefit of it because the increase was based on the percentage of your present salary. But then again, it still a small blessing to thank for. Just like what the poor people say..."better than nothing!". So let's just hope that the new president would really try his best to make the Filipino lives better...

I think its an effective way to minimize corruption by elevating the salaries of public officials but still its least compared to the money they could get by corrupting. But PNoy looks happy receiving his first paycheck ..I guess his sincere to serve the public.

Well it was just an ordinary day in president's life for me. Receiving his first salary was like symbolic gesture from us ordinary citizen that we teased our co workers to treat us and all those fancy thing but for PNoy this was something he wants to show the public that that is what he only earns from being the President. I know they are a bit higher than the previous presidents but I guess he was not the one who dictated how much but the previous administration increased the salary.

Well, that is definitely a good start for a president. At least we will see what really is happening. Perhaps this is one way we could start. Long before we never know. What we know is that the President has the power and has the ability to control the nation. He or she has also the ability to make much money out of corruption. I hope that he will be able to transform our country into something that we will be proud of. I am sure that many are praying for a change. Perhaps it is now... we will just cross our fingers and pray as well as support our new president. I am happy with what he is doing and hope that its not only for a start. I also hope that he will be able to clean up the government. Not only on his level but also to the lowest level.

i was also shocked when i heard it on the news on the radio. it's sad that i haven't seen it aired on television. and those radio news broadcasters or radio news anchors were so sarcastic contacting those other politicians here in the city that i live in. i was laughing my a*s off hearing the interviews on other politicians. they are so guilty knowing that they are receiving more than what the president of the republic of the philippines is receiving.

So his salary is much lesser compared to those executives working in a big companies? i never thought it would be that small, my cousin works for SONY and he was earning more than the presidents salary, so i guess GMA really had so much anolamies done in her terms. i know KARMA will soon get her
