Would you work at the rate of $0.33 per hour?

I was just looking for vacancies over at odesk awhile ago and i noticed how low the rates Filipinos were offered for their services, which shockingly, some providers actually consented to and worked for. This is really a sad fact that some people can get so desperate as to allow other people to take advantage of them. I really feel sorry for those who accept this very low rate, and hate those employers who capitalize on these people for their gain...

Yes, it's disgusting, but if the job offered is just within the Philippine premises, we couldn't blame people from accepting the job since its better than nothing at all. The majority of people here in the Philippines are in the survival mode i guess and $.33 if converted into pesos would be at most around 120.00Php, some undergrads would bite and rise to the occasion for experiences purposes but if you are a family man then its working below the belt. Maybe the government has to do something about it. Perhaps our new elected president is basically looking to solve this crisis ones and for all. We can't blame the people at all, we have to blame those employers offering such taking advantage of the situations.

Could it be, that those employers are desperate entrepreneurs as well? Any idea, what they get paid by their clients?

I can agree here, what kind of work are they doing for that? Most of here on mylott work for a lot less than .33 cents and hour. In fact most people who work online make less than 33 cents per hour of actual work.

No, actually, the type of work varies. Some are for data entry, some are for virtual tasks, some for transcription. I was really shocked with that because I wouldn't want to work for such a rate! Definitely not. I currently work full time online and I earn about $150 in a week for my regular F/T and P/T jobs on odesk, my passive income from writing on academic sites and other online sites not included.

That is so disgusting, hopefully no one would grab that job so that they will realize that filipinos are not that foolish to just get it. They are really taking so much advantage.

You're right glory -- my thoughts exactly. The current situation of unemployment is moving from bad to worse, and sooner or later, instead of wages going higher, it may even get lower and lower... :(

Sad, isn't it? You know what's sadder? There would be Filipinos who will grab that job. There's just not enough good paying jobs for all of us. And, no matter how beautiful our laws are, ($.33 per hour is way, way below minimum wage), some employers could get away with offering so low a wage just because there is someone out there who's in dire need of a job and will take that rate (which is, logically better than nothing at all).

Depends on type of work and also the availability of the time While, in fact, if we're talking about online earning, lots of people don't even earn that amount of money within a day.

That is really a very low rate but for someone who is just starting out and want to build a good profile in Odesk, then that rate is considered. I also signed up for Odesk but I haven't got any projects yet so I just put 1$ per hour on my rate. I know I don't deserve that amount because I type fast and I have some skills in writing but I have to admit, I can't get any projects unless my profile shows that I already finished some projects and I got good feedback from clients. So if 1$ is kind of low for me, then it's okay just for the time that I'm still starting.

that is a really low amount of money.. it is shocking to see how the employers are treating their workers... $0.33 per hour is nothing in current world.. they are taking advanteges of the workers and getting rich.. employers should be more reasonalbel than this.. they can just capitalize on these people for their gain...

Hello Joram, Of course not, even online earning is better then that. You can make even 1 dollar with some inspiration in one hour on mylot, and you choose how you post, you are not blocked by a certain hour schedule. Oh, and did I mention that you can post while siting in bed with your laptop in your lap, your woman next to you and listening to good music in the mean time.

Desk jobs are hard to get at the beginning if you font have any experience. I heard one guy finally got a job after a year and he practically worked for free. Everyone knows the less a employer has to spend the more likely they will hire the person.

That is such as tiny amount. I wouldn't waste my time on that, you're right people are being taken advantage of and there should have been some rules to prevent such a thing from happening.

I won't. The lowest rate I have in contract now is $0.60/hr. The job is data entry and is almost copy-pasting. It was my first hourly job in odesk and the longest contract I've ever been. Unfortunately, I don't prioritize it because I have other contracts too that pays more than that. But it serves as my back up job when other jobs had ended so I could still earn money. Whenever I apply for a job, there are even contractors who rates themselves for $0.10.

I am from the Philippines. And I also work in odesk. It is a sad reality that there are Filipinos who are even willing to accept such amount. I guess they were not able to calculate their expense over their income. They thought that they can get a profit out of it because as far as I know, it is not break even. Some employers just take advantage of others desperate acts.

.33 cents an hour is literally nothing. However, it also depends on the standard of living in the Phillippines (which I know nothing about). What does .33 cents get you? Is it similar to the US? I feel sort of robbed by InboxDollars and other survey sites that are paying 25 cents to 50 cents for a lengthy survey. I don't like that idea at all - because you know that THEY are profiting off of our hard work. That's why I just dont' do it. I am not that desperate, i guess.

That's just the reality. But just look at the bright side, a little earning is better than no earnings at all. Some employers can take advantage of them but this should not discourage those employed to give just a mediocre work but instead they should try to give their best and hone whatever knowledge they can get. In due time they will be good enough to demand a better pay for their work.

really the work rate is very less. People should think before setting their rate of payment. $0.33 is not up to the mark to earn for a hard work.
