Abolish ROTC!

Some people are pushing to make ROTC mandatory again. Have they forgotten Mark Chua? The UST student who died under "initiation rites" of ROTC. The crime was so heinous! His body was dumped in Pasig River and his face was wrapped in packaging tape (the silver type). This crime triggered wide protest to abolish ROTC which resulted to the creation of NSTP wherein students have options to choose between ROTC, and other community services. Please don't let this bill pass.... Remember Mark Chua!

AS far as my experienced is concerned! It's sounds good ROTC to be back.Don't be alarmed about HAZING. There is anti HAZING LAW . Hazing does not happens during the training. It only occurs if those students want to be a member on groups or gangs.WE FILIPINOS are not GANGSTERS. ROTC makes students to become more disciplined.

Well, you may speak for yourself. But why make it mandatory? Yes there is anti-hazing law but the question is the enforcement of the law. In Mark Chua's case, the ROTC were the violators. But were they punished? No they were not. Because the the ones responsible in the ROTC are from the military itself. Not just someone you can just sue.

Back in high school, we have two options: join ROTC or the BSP (Boy Scout). I chose the latter. My bestfriend in high school teases me because of my decision. Many years later, we have a reunion, a camping trip. While he gripes about the hazings he have to endure in high school to gain a rank which is ultimately useless, he was amazed how I was able to generate fire without a match, pitch tent, cook and other useful skills during the camping.

If there's no way of preventing it then they can bring ROTC as a subject and it should be limited to the classroom. No more falling in line, no more push ups, verbal abuse and what ever punishment those dumb officers can think of just to show that they're in charge. i the 2 years (3 actually, courtesy of a substandard attendance sheet) can't remember anything memorable except the push ups and the heat that everybody has to bear. Classroom instructions sucks as those reserved officers were dumb. Bottom line is, ROTC just served as a way to employ reserve officers who don't have the guts to go in active duty.

Yes, I agree with you. We are just wasting time with ROTC because this is a redundant program to our high school's Preparatory Military Training (also called Citizen's Army Training). When I was in high school, I really love CAT because it instill to young people discipline, skills development, leadership and love of country. I even join the officership program, got promoted from rank of 2nd Lt. to the highest rank of Lt. Col. and Col. by the end of the school year. When I entered college, I was drafted to ROTC, and I was thinking of joining the officership training again. But when I observed the training officers (students) and the soldiers who were tasked to handle us are idiots (yes, I say that, they are idiots, or even morons!), I was turned off. I backed out. I saw them, they know nothing except yelling and punishing their cadets. I asked myself "Are they the one I will be working with in the future?"

I'm not a guy but I don't want to have ROTC for the future kids. NSTP is really better compare to ROTC though I haven't experienced that subject only the community service.

I don't see any significance to undergo ROTC. When I was in high school instead of enjoying my saturday life, there we are standing under the heat of the sun and copying lecture which I don't really understood. I would like to have a self defense course rather than ROTC. Why they just leave it to soldiers wannabe.
