Olfactory Dilemma

I have a friend who is very dear to me but her choice in fragrance is nauseating. Every time I see her I have to hold my breath. She likes that whole vanilla/coconut flavor of fragrance. I would love to sue all those fragrance producers who ever put these flavors into colognes. They give me a headache as well as nausea. So what to do? If you had this problem with a friend, would you tell them? What would you do?

you could be allergic to the scent - my roommate's mom had a STROKE in reaction to a product - I would gently tell her that you seem to be allergic to the stuff she's wearing, and if you are going to be around her, would she please not wear it or use it - could be a lotion or something - the roomie's mom had the stroke to some of the Bath and Body Works stuff.

I have lotions that smell like this, I just do not use a lot. Maybe she is putting too much on?

I don't know about too much...I just know that I cannot hug her without holding my breath!

Hi alaskanray - it is funny to me that you mention this. I despise food smelling fragrances. I can't stand coconut or vanilla or even most fruity smells. I love to eat it but not wear it! Do guys like this? I would really like to know. My husband is not too fond of it. I don't like those candles that smell like cookies, cakes, pie, etc. I figure with perfume I am hefty enough without walking around smelling like a pound cake or a sugar cookie. Good grief! I would just tell her that you love her but her fragrance is causing you to have headaches and nausea and as others have said that you are allergic to it. If she is a good friend she will understand. Good luck. God bless you. chickabee

I couldn't agree more! I think whoever came up with the bright idea of putting cookie dough fragrances into our colognes and perfumes should be strung up! I much prefer florals and woods combined with the occasional spice to these flavors they're passing off as fragrances. PEEEEEEWWWWW!!!!

I guess you can tell her that without being offended, you can suggest her a new perfume or cologne, convince her how fragrant is. That way, maybe she'll try another scent.

That's just the problem...it's a difficult subject to approach. She already knows I don't like food fragrances.
