I just baked a yellow cake for my son in law's birthday which is today. We will however not be celebrating until tomorrow...as they are on their way from Arizona today. He doesn't like frosting. The rest of us love chocolate. He detests chocolate. So I am only frosting half the cake so he can have his birthday cake without frosting! Do you have someone you have to make special orders for when you bake? Do you know anyone else that doesn't like frosting?

Yes, but I tell them to just scoop it up and give it to me..lol (Notice I love sugar from the last two posts I replied to??LOL) I use to bake my children's birthday cakes, even making my own frosting to decorate it, but they all grew sick of it for some reason..My youngest however, doesn't even like cake, chocolate, yellow, white, no matter, he doesn't like it..He does like frosting, but not a lot..So when his birthday rolls around I make him rice krispie treats in shapes of whatever he is into that year. Like last year it was a robot made from rice krispie treats..

My son thinks so too, since it is something he will eat..He also won't eat ice cream cake, which is why I ended up making the rice krispie version..

You are such a thoughtful mother-in-law to only frost half the cake. Don't know anyone personally who doesn't like frosting. I have seen people scrape the frosting off an individual piece of cake when it was thick or if it was too sweet. I use to eat alot of yellow cake with chocolate icing when I was a kid. I haven't baked in so long don't know if our oven works or not. My husband is not a sweet eater so if I would make a batch of cookies or a cake, it would be up to me to eat everything.

Happy birthday to your son in law. I don't know anyone that doesn't like frosting. But I do have to do special orders. Every Christmas my male friend likes the way I make HELLO DOLLY BARS. So I have take time to make him some. My son wants me to make GOOD NIGHT KISSES. Egg whites beaten up fluffy. Set oven to 250 for an hour before you go to bed. Turn oven off and put your tray of fluffy egg whites in the oven and take them out when you wake up. Even though I am not married anymore, my kids live with my Ex's parents. I still have a great relationship with them. They always have me over for Christmas. My Ex only goes over for an hour as he is married and spends more time with his wife's family as she has a huge family. I am always asked to make Cherry pie for ex father in law. No one is allowed to eat it put him. He likes the way I make home made crust. My ex mother in law needs me to do pecan pie for her. Thanksgiving time I have to mash up sweet potatoes and on one half of the dish there has to be marshmallows on top just for my son. Those are some of the special orders I have to do. But just like you, we moms do it with love.

I have not known anyone who does not like frosting, as for me, I just take it out by spoon, put it on the side of my plate and eat the cake. Because the frosting is so fatty sometimes, as you know there so many kind of frosting. Hope your son-in-law can appreciate that you made a cake for him, and that say that you care about him. And he should be thankful and polite to you. It's not easy baking and most especially for someone who is picky.

Wow. Yes I have a friend here at My Lot who doesn't like frosting. I was shocked at first but that ok. I bake so I would make a cake and top it with some powered sugar . As for your Leo, Son In Law, I would have made a naked cake , no frosting, and then served some chocolate pudding on the side for those who love chocolate. It is his day and his cake!

When making a birthday cake it's almost always a special order.. but I don't know anyone who dislikes frosting!
My hubby really likes lemon cake with lemon frosting, or strawberry cake with strawberry frosting. For his birthday he'll get lemon, for Fathr's Day he'll get strawberry.
I do not like chocolate...but my son does, and our birthdays are 1 day apart and usually celebrated together. So I make 2 cakes for our birthdays, a chocolate one for him and something else for me.
The rest of the kids are too young yet to be picky about their cakes so I usually just make them white cakes with funfetti frosting.

Hey jill! I have never heard of anyone that didn't like frosting
on a cake! Who eats dry birthday cake? And
how do you know that it's birthday cake if it doesn't have
frosting? My bf doesn't care for chocolate frosting either,
but he does like white frosting at least!

Well aren't you kind! My DIL's mother id a special birthday cake for the twins last week. It was a huge oblong cake and half of it was Spiderman and the other half was Dora the Explorer. so both of them were so pleased. They also each had their four candles to blow out! I am sure that your SIL will be so happy.
