Notice how we live a world full of noises. The TV is on, Children screaming, people talking, cars going by, the radio is on, and so on and so on...
I live in Government Subsidized Housing where there is ALWAYS people talking outside. Children are running around screaming. Cars going by with there rap music. I have been sitting her in my downstairs office for the past 15 minutes working a way here on My Lot when I came to a stop. I sat in my desk chair for five minutes with my hands behind my head. I listened. For five minutes. All I heard was the sound of my fan, birds chirping and.... PEACE & QUITE. What a nice sound it is. No TV, radio, cars, children or people. Just PEACE & QUITE.
Have you ever taking the time to stop and notice the sounds around you? What do you hear? What does silence sound like to you? I just now thought to myself, PEACE & QUITE is just like taking the time to STOP & SMELL THE ROSES.
Share you thoughts on this topic.

Welcome to hell on earth. Been there done that, but I now live in a place that is worse. Yeah, I did not think that there was such. And to think, before I got sick and spent all of my money on medical bills I lived on a sailboat where I could just pull up anchor and move if the fish got too noisy.
Did you know that lizards make a little tiny trilling noise? When it gets very quiet, you can hear them in the evening trilling to each other.

Being on a sailboat sounds like fun. The breeze in your hair. The smell of the water and the feel of the sun. Sounds like fun.
I forgot about the lizards. Thanks for bringing up the childhood memories. I use to like to play with them as kid. Then to just lye in the grass and night and here them make the trilling noise. Better than hearing all the other racket around us. The little sounds like the lizards can be music to your ears. Not like Beethoven or Bach. he-he! Thanks for the memory.

Hi magabiz,
Noise pollution it is called. Our society has gone mad with have every conceivable noise maker it can invent at the public becking call. Most every purchase we make has some form of noise attached to it.
Over the last few years, I have been very fortunate because I live in a very quite section of our city. It is unlike the noisy city I moved from which was full of noisy traffic, kids, and any other form of noise possible. I am amazed at how quite the area is. Rarely hearing a siren or dog barking, most of them are house pets, the children sometimes comes out in the street to play with each other, very rarely. My back neighbors live across the lake, so I don't hear any loud conversation like in the old neighborhood.
In my home the television is off pretty much all day when I am at home. I like to just hear the clean air machine and sometimes the air conditioner. I love peace and quite, it give you time to reflect on so many things in my life. I sort of take plenty of time to smell the roses.

Hi,
I do appreciate where I am now, because I have lived in those kind of neighborhoods where the noise never ends. For now I am going to enjoy every day of quiet that I can get.

Sounds like you live a very beautiful area. I face a busy street where there are sirens going all the time. Seem like either fire trucks or police cars every hour.
With the days flying by so fast, we all need to time quite time to just reflect on ourselves and every thing around us.
~HAPPY REFLECTING. ENJOY SMELLING THE ROSES~ :)

Hi there! Well i live in the city where a lot of cars and noisy people passing by. It's a bit crazy sometimes especially when the church near our house practice religious songs in the evening with large speakers and all the microphones, but I'm already quite use to it already. The good thing there is my room is in the corner of the house and no windows at all..so i barely hear any cars or noise at night. Just the sound of the AC. I always take time to hear the things around me especially when im alone in the room. Indeed it is very peaceful and quite and i would say its very much relaxing. Stress free, no problems to think and just hearing the air that you breath.

I must be nice to at least have a room you can go to that blocks outside sound so you can have some peace and quite when you need it. Wish I had a room like that. But all the rooms in my two story apartment have windows except the bathroom. But, who wants to sit in the bathroom just to get peace in quiet? Not me.

Yes that seems to be a ot of fun. I do not know how you survived a life like that but for me the place I find myself the time could stop is when I am at the beach. Well the beaches are here have only quite few people. Very calm and the breeze is so cool. My house is far from the beach and since this country sucks, I still need entrance fee to get inside the beach. The beach is fun you know, try it sometimes.

Thank you for the memory. It has been so, so long since I have been to a beach. I forget how peaceful it can be at the beach. You are sounded by the sound of the waves, seagulls and yes, laughter. It may not real quite at the beach, but yes, laughter can be a peaceful sound. Better than rap music, someone banging on your wall from the apartment next door or people fighting outside. I will have to make a trip back to the beach someday. Thank you for reminding me of the beach.

This happens to me espeially when I am thinking. It also helps to release my stress and tensions in a day. Good for you because you can hear the birds and smell the roses. I cannot do that here in our place. I have to play my old cd for meditation and it is good to hear the chirping sounds of the birds, the swaying bamboos and rushes of water. My children do not appreciate the sounds, it's kinda scary to them so I only play it if I have time and they're not around. Peace and quite moments relieve pains and attact positive thoughts.

I am pretty fortunate to live almost to the edge of town. My house is kind of set back from the street and I have lots of bushes planted. All those things make it quieter. I do not have the television on all the time, and actually, all I have going right now is a fan. I can hear cicadas and tree frogs from the open window. I went to the library today. I go almost every day and sit and read newspapers, looking for work. Today these two older couples came in and they were having the loudest conversations about all kinds of stuff. I think maybe about their high school reunion which is this weekend. I think they talked louder than they needed to, but maybe they could not hear each other that well. It is good to stop and listen to sounds of nature. I like my yard, and I like going to the parks around here.

I hope to one day be out of the apartment complex and into a home of my own surrounded by lots of trees especially pine trees. I love the nature sound more than anything. I usually have my TV on every night. I think this in one night I have not had it on in, I can't remember how long as it's been way to long. I to love the sounds of cicadas. When you take the time to hear the sounds of nature, it's like you can almost here them saying something to you. I remember as a kid living in NY, there use to be this bird that would call out every 30 seconds. Sounded like he was saying, Pat! Pat! Nature sounds are refreshing and a great way to release stress.

Coming from the inner city, i am all too familiar with that scenario. When I have traveled to visit family outside of the city and stayed overnight, I have at times found that i could not sleep if i did not hear the ocassional fire engine screaming by or the sound of police sirens, rap music, or the neighbors arguing. The only way i can stop and smell the roses is to physically leave the neighborhood. I have made seeking peace & quiet a part of my spiritual therapy and i visit the mountains a couple of times a year to look for those smells and sounds that calm the nerves, decrease physical stress, and enhance my spiritual existence. I have found many hours of comfort sitting on the side of a mountain watching the sun come up and listening to the songs of nature.

I like listening to the sound of nature. When I was in original home in the countryside a few years ago,I always did it.At that time, the sound around me was birds'chirping, people's laughing and so on and I could always heard the sound whatever I did. However, since I came here in the big city,I have never heard such enjoyable sound. There are over ten million people in the city and they are fast moving.Every morning,I'm awaked by noises.I almost forget the feeling of silence.

Yes, it is easy to forget the feeling of silence. I am always awaken by noise of a car honking, someone blaring the rap music on there car radio, even the sounds of the lawnmower being that I live in an apartment. Whenever I hear quite, I take advantage of the peace around me by doing some meditation, soul searching or even reading the Bible.
~HAPPY MYLOTTING~ :)
