My son has learned to swim in the swimming class for about three weeks. Since last Friday afternoon he didn't go to the swimming class because he had the fever. I found that the temperature was higher at midnight and usually it was OK in the morning. In fact today afternoon I was quite frustrated whether I should let him go to swim. Finally I found that his temperature was higher again after waking up in the afternoon. So I gave it up. If tomorrow he is fine, then I will let him go to swim.

HI,
Since your son fever is still not recovering,it is better
not to let him go for outdoor activity.
Just let his coach know that he is not feeling well.
It is best to make sure he is fully recover before let
him go for outdoor activity.
As swimming is direct contact with cold water, It may make
his body condition to get worse after that.
IN the first place, have you brought him to doctor to
know the cause of his fever?
Normally when kid has a fever, its body temperature is tend to
raise up during midnight and daytime will be more stable.
It happened to my son too sometimes.
For me, I will monitor my son's body temperature, measure every
hour and make sure it won't raise up too high(over 38').
If the fever still there after medication for 2 days, then I will
quickly bring him to doctor to check-up.
Normally fever can be caused by throat infection.
Most important is to let your son drink plenty of water, monitor his
body temperature hourly.Let him eat something light like
porridge.
Hope your son will have a speedy recovery and takecare.

This morning we went to see the doctor and the doctor the fever is because of the throat infection, as well as you said. In the afternoon I checked the relevant information via the net and it's very interesting that some people said it's OK to let the children go to swim, some said no and I am confused. By the way, it seems that the children's temperature are higher than adults, and 37.5 degrees is not a fever for children. This is what I learned via the net today. My son's temperature went higher after a shower in the afternoon. Then he had a sleep. After that, he was fine again. I hope that he will fully recover tomorrow.

youless,
Before you make any decision tomorrow, I hope you will first try and determine what kind of fever your son is having.
Being that it is summer now, you have to be very careful if this fever is more than a mere occasional fever. Please do check for malaria or dengue fever symptoms or even meningitis because these types of fever can be FATAL!
So, please no guess work and bring your son to the hospital once the fever appears again. Better be safe than ....
Take care and do update us as I am sure all of us are concern for your son and you.

youless,
In that case, I would advise that he be rested at least 3 more days or till his throat infection is fully recovered. The fact that he is running a fever is partly due to the fact that his body is fighting the infection that might have gotten a bit out of hand due to improper rest or medication.
Let him rest is definitely a better advocate here. Take care and have a nice day.

I do no allow my kid to swim, if he is unwell. Once he developed water borne infection in his ears and it took pretty long time to cure.

I don't let my children go anywhere when they have a fever. I have always been told by the doctors that if they have a fever and are sick, they are contagious until 24 hours after the fever has broken. I wouldn't want my children to make other kids sick, nor would I want to run the risk of having them pick up something else due to their already weakened immune system. It's not the end of the world if they don't get to run around and have fun for a few days.

I think it depends on why he has a fever. IF he has an inner ear infection it would be terrible to let him go swimming. But if it's some other minor thing the water might help keep the fever down! I really think it totally depends on the "why" first!

Of course not, if they having fever, that mean they are more vulnerable and easy to get infection. And if they get cold again, their fever will get worse, so better to wait until they are totally recovered before let them go yo swim.

I don't let my kids swim when they have fever. I believe that a child gets fever when he becomes too tired or when he has a viral infection. Either reason, he has to rest. I think that allowing him to swim will only make him more exhausted and thus harder for his body to recover. I always make sure that if any of my boys have fever, that they get ample rest and a lot of water. I don't think it would be right to risk his health just so that he will not miss a lesson in his swimming class.

Hello youless. I think that it is better not to have your child go to swim if he has a high fever because he surely does not feel good when he is ill. When he gets recovered, he will be energetic enough to swim in the swimming pool and it will be safer for him. May your son get recovered soon.

I was always very careful when my kids had a fever. I don't think I'd let them go swimming. Usually a fever is a sign that something is wrong and the body is trying to heal itself. Don't let a fever go very long without checking with a doctor.

Hi, youless. No. I won't let my kids swim if they have a fever. I would just rather wait until they feel much better before they get into the water. I hope that your son will feel so much better very soon. I also hope that his fever will go completely down.

I can't see myself allowing my child to go swimming with a fever. They would probably enjoy being cooled off, but I'm not sure it would be safe for them. You just don't know what could happen while swimming.

I won't let my kids get to swim or either take them bath if they had a fever. Rather I gave them a medicine paracetamol. And if the fever last for more than three days I will bring them to a doctor.:(
Well i hope your son is alright by now.

Hi youless, my son did participate in his swimming training class in his childhood. Though I know soaking in the cold water would help to lower the body heat I still insist not to let my young son who has fever to attend the swimming class. I worried that the blowing breeze would make the situation more serious to catch a cold right at the time he came up from the water. it's always safer to stay at home.
Having fewer usually means that there is something unusual happening to the body immune system. Might be this is the symptom to show the white cells of the body to fight against the foreign intruder. For the purpose of health and safety I would let my son to have a proper rest at home to prevent any undesirable disease to happen to him. No matter how there is no harm at all to miss one or two swimming lesson in such situation.
Take care and happy posting

hi youless my only child is now 51 but if he was little and running a fever no I would not send him to a swimming class and if he had not had
medical care I would be taking him to my doctor as its not normal for a child to have a fever. He must be ill with something By letting him swim while ill he could be exposing others to whatever he has and also could pick up germs in his already weakened state that would make him sicker too.

My daughter is learning swimming for almost 2 yrs. in all these months, she never has fever or infection, last month she had fever and i didn't allow her to swim even though she insisted. many parents do allow their kids to swim when they have fever. but infections pass on to other kids. this time my daughter actually developed throat problem. I was scared that she had caught from one of the sick kids in the pool. the doctor said its better to stay away from the pool till she gets well. she should not be the one to pass on the infection to others. even thought the pool is always kept clean , infections do attack weak ones.
