I have a problem with my dog. He has started to be picky with his food. And today, he only drinks water, maybe to ease his hunger. ive tried different stuffs already: canned dog food, treats, his favorite fish (yes he loves eating fish), and etc.He still wont it. He is already 1 year and 8 months old. My friend told me maybe he is having a tummy problems, and that i should give him milk or yogurt. Is it okay if i give him milk?

Dogs can't handle a changed diet. Once you pick a certain kind of dog food, never change it because it upsets their stomachs. They're not like us humans where we eat different foods each day, they have to have the same brand each and every time or they'll have upset stomachs. Hubby and I feed our dogs a mix of dry and can together and that's what they get every day, the same brand of both meaning, the same kind of dry and the same kind of can. It doesn't have to be the same brand in dry and can but the same in dry and the same in can. Does that make any sense? lol Say like you'll use purina for dry and pedigree for can, you use the same ones every day. Now if your dog isn't neutered, he needs to be however, when a female dog is in heat, a male dog can smell the scent miles away. Male dogs will not eat for a few days or even a week when a female is in heat. Why that is, I don't know but it's true so don't let it worry you unless it lasts a week or more. Another thing, dogs don't always eat all that they get or the same amount each day and they will eat when they're hungry no matter what you give them but be nice and give them something that's tasty.

Thanks for the BR! Glad to be of help! Please DO get him neutered because he'll be a much happier dog and you won't have to worry about testicular cancer. Plus he won't be bothered by in heat females and eat normally.

No, no, no, milk and all milk products are not good to give to dogs, they cannot digest them. What breed is the dog? Is it loosing weight? What is your normal feeding regime?
all the best urban

Can I ask what is your dog breed? Is he a small or a large dog?
Definitely no. Dogs are intolerant to milk and lactose and can cause diarrhea.
Is it hot in philippines at the moment? I would not be over preoccupied if he is off food for a day or two. Try canned foods, chicken/rice, beef, sausages, dry food. If he remains off for for 2/3 days I would go to the vet and see what's wrong.

We've been through this. We have three Shar pei. We've had dogs for the last 16 years. My hubby was a vet tech years ago. As long as your dog acts normal in every other way, there is probably another reason for this to be occurring. Same style of play, runs and plays, weight the same. Bright eyes. You know. Then there is another reason. Give it two days. If there is no change after that get him to the vet. Don't change anything in the mean time.

Yeah milk is not a good idea to give your dog because he won't be able to digest that and I think that it will make things worse. My puppy chihuahua can also be picky with her food at times like she doesn't want to eat it, but then I put it in my hand and she eats it she only does this sometimes though sometimes she will just eat the food on her own. When she does I am relieved that I don't have to put the dog food in my hand to give it to her because it doesn't smell very good and it actually makes me sick. I just don't like the smell of dog food, but yeah I think it's best if you take your dog to the vet because they know how to care for animals. I'm sure that they will find what is wrong with your dog and he will be better in no time at all.Good luck and happy mylotting.

Pay attention to your dog to see if he has other signs of illness. See if he's upset, if his temperature is ok, if he has dry nose, if he eats grass, if he has diarrhea. If he shows any other sign of illness than the lack of interest for the food, you should seek for veterinary help. Don't wait until your vet returns.
If not, this means you are about to become the owner of a picky dog. In this case, stop begging him to eat, let him starve until he is hungry enough to eat the food you decided is right for him. I know it sounds cruel, but it isn't. If he doesn't have any healthy problems, he will eventually eat.
As for the milk, it is true, some dogs have lactose intolerance, but others are ok with milk. If your dog ate milk or milk products before and he didn't have any problems, you could give him milk.

Knowing how to take care of a dog involves proper attention to your dog’s diet. Though it may be tempting to purchase a low-quality dog food formula that is inexpensive, this can negatively affect your dog’s health. It’s recommended that you feed your dog a high-quality, nutrient-rich dog food formula that is balanced enough to ensure proper digestion. Checking dog food reviews is an excellent way of picking a high quality dog food. It’s also best to avoid dog food that contains artificial preservatives, colors or chemical flavoring.
Have a nice day my friend!

hello yaneepudah
i wouldn't do that i would bring him to the vet and make sure he is ok if he has the runs then i would boil rice and chicken and give him that if he is not going at all then give him dog food and applesauce. i don't give my dog alot of people food i give him imes because the first ingredient is meat or chicken it isn't just fillers that aren't good for them.

just put food on his plate and leave it.he will eventually eat his meal because hes afraid to die.just like people,a sense of self-preservation.instinct.thats what happen to my dog also,he used to be a picky eater and prefers human food like meat.which is a big no no because that is not complete meal for them, and their poop stinks if they eat those kinds.i just put dog food on his plate and he will eventually eat it when his hungry.he usually eats in the middle of the night because he thinks he will get human food during the day.dont let your dog select what he wants to eat because that will make him/her a spoiled brat.and also feeding your dog dog food makes it much easier because if you dont have enough budget or any case you dont have any available dog food you can feed him/her human food temporarily.canned dog food is good temporary.hard dog food like cookies is good for them because it has all the vitamins and because it is hard it brushes the teeth squeeky clean, prevents gingivitis.if you suspect he has tummy problem, get him/her to a vet.its kinda expensive but worth it.it is better to have a health dog than a sick dog which has very very expensive medicines and vet fee.

Take the dog to the vet - now - before he goes too many days without. It may be something that needs to be addressed by the pros....we've run into that situation before with 2 dogs but they were 12 and 15 - better to be safe than sorry.
